... For having voted for check and balance by electing Democrats in Congress.

Armageddon will have to wait a bit more... ;)

Now get back to work folks!

Wednesday, November 08, 2006 at 8:40:41 AM

What does Democrats strive for ie their goals? How do they suggest these goals be achieved?

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

Yes, Thank You!! It looks like the Dems are going to take both the senate and the house. AND rumsfeld is stepping down! What a great day!!

Wednesday, November 08, 2006 at 11:27:08 AM

Oh, yeah...democracy. I remember this concept! Here ends the reign of the petty tyrant, bush the lesser, by the disbanding of his enablers in congress.

Tip o' the hat to the moderates and principaled republicans out there...the rabbans of the US for elevating the state of our union over party fealty. Salute!

Tip o' the hat to the youth vote for showing up for once. A promising sign for our union.

Tip o' the hat for the rumsfeld (the big sissy), for leaving before he gets tossed out on his ass...a metaphor for Iraq also.

Tip o' the hat for democrats who ran centrist cadidates and to nancy pellosi who pledges to run more to the center.

I hope this marks a turning point in domestic policy: the end of the breaks for the wealthy and the corporations, and the beginning of policy aimed at the stregnthening our middle class and our decrepit social institutions...education, education, education.

^^ it will not mark the end of your deficit though. :(

You guys will be paying a long time for those Bush years. The deficit is in trillions (? It boggles the mind). See you in 2020! ;)

...he expressed both disappointment and surprise over the election results.
...
"Actually, I thought we were going to do fine yesterday, shows what I know," Bush said.

This says to me, out of touch.

What I always find genuinely moving in our democracies is the defeat speech following the elections. Just caught Bush on CNN, saying 'Yesterday, the Senator had a good night, etc." and gracefully acceptng the results and expressing that the time is now to move forward in a bi-partisn spirit to serve the citizens.

I find the bloodless ritual of passing of the torch to a new team full of humanity, and perhaps the best thing our type of government has to offer.

Like we all know lots of troubles arise when politicians don't recognize an election; simply look at Mexico recently, Ukraine not so long ago, etc.

Hail to Bush for being graceful following the Republican defeat in the House.

@ Sheena: I'm with you 100%, just gotta hope that things don't implode.

*heavy sigh*
< is with Sheena on this one.

You can beat us down... But ya can't take us out! Long live the Republic! Not that it means anything, but I'de take being called a Republican verses a Democrat any day. At least our party thought about their name. Jeeze! Democrat.... Sounds too close to "degrading-rat", "de moc[ing] rat" or suggesting "demo(explosive)-crap"... But I guess that's self explanatory. XD

And as Kinky Friedman (Independent candidate for Texas governor) said it, " 'Politics'... 'poly" meaning more than one, and 'ticks', blood sucking parasites. "

I try not to get overly obsessed with politics. They just stress you out and make you pissed off with other people. (Though, sadly, I can't always keep my hand out of the cookie jar. *grins*)

@ Fuji: Lolz! Now I can't get that song out of my head! So perfect... XD

Lol, if Bush is dumb enough to veto most of the democrat's bills then he is all but guaranteeing defeat for the republicans in 2008.

Wednesday, November 08, 2006 at 6:49:59 PM

^ he is that dumb...

And I like it.

Wednesday, November 08, 2006 at 8:50:23 PM

*tsk tsk* Hey, I mean common. It seems we always get a bad apple in office AFTER the elections. There weren't nearly as many Bush haters at the beginning of his run. Then all of a sudden the tides really turn on him. Kinda like Gray Davis and all those guys. Once they're in, they are free to really start the damage, and the common people have no actual say. It's all a game for them. I just hope our next president isn't yet another "Bush gone bad". :S

If I'm not correct, democrats want to pull out of Iraq, no? :(

Wednesday, November 08, 2006 at 11:54:01 PM

Yeah I think John Howard here in OZ is crapping his pants now, after that result and his support for his mate GW.
But maybe not, as the leader of the opposition here is just a huge fat dumb slob.

Oh well back to the homebrew.

@ Ace gun bunny: You forget that he didn't actually have the majority in the 2000 election. So really he shouldn't have been president in the first place.

Thursday, November 09, 2006 at 4:08:24 AM

There weren't nearly as many Bush haters at the beginning of his run

It's true, that's the beauty of it. Usually in our society we grow a 'voters' fatigue' over the years. It's normal/natural that people are exacerbated by W Bush, he's been in your face for 6 years. Clinton was blasted when he left office, etc. People are starving for new ideas, new faces, new blood, etc. It's natural. What's unnatural is to stop that re. Dictatorship.

Also I think Bush's era was particularly noxious; in the US midlands itself you may not feel it, but in the rest of the world, the USA popularity quote went down big time. Seriously, wherever Condi goes she's a lame duck; the Republicans has little credibility left, if any. We all know the US Army has muscle, but it is discredited for several years after the Iraqi lies. What part of illegally, unilaterally invading a country you don't understand?

Some of you folks would be surprised if you read what international newspapers say on your country - I'm talking, leading editorial from leading newspaper. If you read the Texas Time everything is swell indeed. I know, you think it does not matter... But it does: in the XX1st century everyone and everything is global.
-
Yesterday I read China's currency reserve reached 973 trillions; they say 700 T is enough, so they're getting ready to roll 273B in 2007 - to invest anywhere in the world...

Also I read yesterday that China is now the biggest donor country... There was an African Summit last weekend where CHina pledged 10B loans in exchange for trade, etc. The US wasn't invited. You may think 'oh it's only Africa'. But basically the developing world is aligning with China more and more. You saw Syriana? Deals with Brazil, deals with Saudi Arabia, etc.

Unless you follow International affairs, you may think the Bush years had limited impact. But since 2000, the US position has drastically deteriorated, and the trade deficit is huge. Go Walmart Go.

Anyway not to be pessimistic, but I just don't wish the ruin of my neighboring country. :) Hopefully the bubble will burst in the coming weeks.

You make a very good point and back it well, Hugobrains. Thank you for enlightening me. XD

Also, Player36, you're right. If there's one thing a candidate should NEVER do, it's rigging the voting system. That's not particularly the best idea to gain the people's respect. X/

He didn't rig the voting system, it's been "rigged" since our country was founded. It is most definitely time for the electoral college to go.

Thursday, November 09, 2006 at 6:54:16 PM

Yes Bush has been a "good" loser in this one.

Some of you guys here in TT have been sore winners.
The dems have taken the house and the senate, but most of them are DINOS (democrats in name only) who are very conservative.
I have a very hopefull outlook for the near future.

The republicans forgot where they came from.
Good for you democrats!! This is healthy polotics!!

Stalemate will be good for business.
