I've been tellin my parents I want one since the beginning of the year. Since it's nearing my birthday they said I can get one if I pay for it. Of course I am. XD

Just wanted to know if anyone out there that has a tattoo could tell me what kinda pain to expect. I've been doin my research on the thing so I'm not goin into this thing not knowin what to expect. I'm ok with needles, and can take pain pretty well. Just wana know what it feels like.

Here's what I want:

Tribal Libra

Irish

I've got a half skull / half smiley-face on my shoulder, and a green snake around my forearm. I regret the snake because it's too noticable, and people tend to judge you by appearence. I got both tatts when I was 18, and didn't care about the future.
I highly recommend you put your tattoo in an inconspicuous area.
About the pain: It feels exactly like a needle plunging/dragging into/across your skin. It hurts wicked bad.

^ My thoughts exactly. I almost got one when I was 18. It was either going to be a skull and crossbones or the Grateful Deads "Steal your Face".

Now that I am much older I am so glad I didn't do it. I wouldn't want it any longer.

I am not against people with tats, but not for me.

I would go w/ the tribal one, jjust for the pain reason. Fewer colors, less draw lines, and will be easier to remove if/when you get tired of it. As for the pain, I have been drawn on w/ a tatoo pen before (yes, I have a line on the back of my calf) to help a tatooer calibtrate it, and it hurt like hell. ::shivers:: Once you get over the three day mark, though, it gets better.

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

I will probably never get one. Because my dad would kill me, my family would disown me, and when I get old with saggy skin the tatt is gonna melt and look like some 4 year old hurled on my arm. They don't even appeal to me, and I really don't see the attraction. My advice: shave your head, get that Irish one on your scalp, then grow out your hair again.

^ LOL

I was like IM for the longest time, not knowing what I would get a tattoo of until about a year ago. A couple buddies and I, with plenty of encouragement (brown bottle variety) and some trash talkin', ended up with tattoos of our favorite sports teams. So now I have the Yankees logo on the back of my left shoulder. Really not that big 'o deal.

We, however, are all old enough to not have to worry about what our fathers would say. So that is up to you. I would definitely stay away from the tribal arm band or whatever's hip right now, unless you plan on staying in the gym and keeping your arms in shape so that tat doesn't say something different in fifteen years. I have a buddy that has "Cabo 03" on his shin.......nice choice there.

The pain depends widely on where you get the tattoo on your body. Obviously some areas are more sensitive than others. Like Fish said, though, go with someplace discreet. I have to say that even though I have one, if a guy walks into my office with tattoos all over looking for a job, he's already got a strike against him. It seems my hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Good luck whatever you decide and definitely post a pic.

^^ Heh, what about when you go bald? Hello, old tattoo!

I heard a story about a guy who got a giant eyeball tattooed on his head, later he let his hair grow out. And much later, after he had become a respected suit and tie kind of buisness man, he started to go bald... And the eye started peaking out from under his receeding hairline. Heh heh...

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

It would suck though, if you had a cool finger mustache, and then some crazy dictator came along with the same stache and ruined it. (See Hitler ruining the cool Charlie Chaplin Mustache.)

My missus said 44 had his name tattooed on his penis,

Well I have 2 of them !
A dragon on my left shoulder,
my mother gave to me for my 18 birthday.
Which I hate.
It turned out I was allergic to the red ink they used.
All areas in red are slightly raised up.

This is my second tattoo,

This one came to me in a dream one night.
So the next morning I sketched it out.
4 years later I found a Artist I could trust and loved his work.
Little advice though,
stay away from the middle of back.
Anything on the spinal cord hurts like hell.
Total time for back tattoo,
Two 6 hour sittings to get it all done !

All ready looking to get another wolf tattoo
on my right shoulder or on my right shoulder blade !
Just looking for a new Artist,
old one moved away :(

^ I should've asked to see that! Dang it!

The wife and I got our complimentary tattoos several years ago. She has the moon, I have the sun. We got them to take our marriage bond to the next level (rings you can take off), so they have as much significance now has as they did then. They also have an additional meaning now since the artist, a dear friend of ours, died a couple of years ago so they're little tributes to him as well.

And yes, there is pain involved. We elected to get them on our ankles. While a generally cool spot for a tat, the bone is a bit closer to the skin than in other places and in my case since I was rather thin at the time, I think the pain resonated throughout my leg. But then, the pain is part of the passage and if you wanna join the clan, you must endure. Besides, if they were easy to get, everyone would have one.

^ I wouldn't have one! Because as I said before, I don't want my arm to melt into some four year old's lunch of peaches and teddy grahms.

LGM

Have one if you want, but I'll pass.

I'm the only one of my siblings not to have one. Maybe I saw old Uncle John's faded anchor tat from his Navy days a few times too many. It looked like his forearm had weird vericose veins as the outline faded to a sick bluish grey. (ICK)

My younger brother got a couple, and both of my sisters have at least one. I tend to dislike tattoos myself, but if you want one, be sure you REALLY want it. Laser removal only works to a certain degree, and tends to leave scars behind.

Well I say if you really want it, and can think up a good explanation to the nurses in the retirement home a long time from now - go for it. (A snoop dog tattoo, for instance, would not generally be a good choice, even for his 'fans'). So think about it pretty hard, and shoot yourself with a nailgun once or twice, to really make sure you're used to pain, then get it. =) I wouldn't, but you can. =P I like the ones you picked out.
