Did it blame bush the whole time?

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

All they are is trying to make America scared so they get publicity and people watch their channel.

It's overhyped by the media.

There is a risk of worse epidemia, but it's highly unlikely, because the flu should first be able to spread from human to human. As long as that won't happen, the risk is minimal.

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

True, but we stil should be prepared. As long as it stays the way it is right now or goes away - that would be good.

In my view, its a wake-up call. We have to realize that this bird flu would be dangerous if it spread to humans. Thankfully, we are already developing vaccines in case the dreaded day comes when the flu could reach America. We are more prepared than the poor folks in the movie, but we have to keep vigilant.

BTW, the movie did not mention Bush at all - it wasnt a politically driven movie.

And I bet you got that view from them.

No I didnt actually - I have had the view that the bird flu is more than just a "distraction" and more a credible thread if it mutates.

The reason why I made this thread is to see what other people think about this new medical obstacle.

It IS a distraction. The chances of an epedemic are almost equal every year. It can pass from birds to humans but not between humans.

And maybe if we didn't give so many antibiotics to livestock this wouldn't exist in the first place.

There are more important things to worry about. How many people has this killed? I think the death toll is 103.
Over 8000 people die of AIDS each day.
Over 45,000 people die of starvation or malnutrition every day.

Not trying to say that you're wrong Spirit. Bird flu is a potential problem. But there are bigger problems facing the world.

I'll give my 2 cents worth from SARS central. I live in Toronto and felt completely safe while the SARS outbreak was occuring here. Public Health officials knew at all times who may have been infected and the efforts to contain it were exemplory. Over the 100 or so people that were exposed, only 5 died, including the 2 that carried it over from Hong Kong. In the meantime, there was a sense of panic about visiting Toronto; conferences were cancelled, concerts were cancelled, and tourism is just now recovering. Really knee jerk reactions. People thought you could catch it by walking down the street.

The bird flew has really been hyped as the coming apocolypse. When it does make the leap from human to human infection, and it will, I fully beleive modern health care will be able to react to contain it quickly. Estimates I've heard state that 1-2 million people will die WORLDWIDE. Thats.01% of the worlds population, hardly equal to the pandemic outbreaks of the past like The Plague. North American outbreaks will be limited to particular cities due to air travel, but once the call goes out that someone may have been infected at a particular location, people will be overly cautious and seek help immediately. This will make it very easy to isolate those individuals and track infections. Where most of the deaths will occur are in developing nations with no public health infrastructure exists.

I think the problem is that the constant sex orgy that is happening in Toronto will be the trigger for infecting every Canadian human with the virus, once it comes out. Then, for those Americans that are having sex with Canadians and chickens, the virus will spread, eventually across the world. Then someone will have sex with a monkey and give it to them. I believe this is how AIDS started, but in reverse.

How did you come up with these?

Well, I was wondering about this question...

IF the bird flu does mutate and kill humans, how would our gov't respond? And how quickly? Just asking

^^^ Aye Oddball. The WHO 'travel ban' was ludicrous, but then perhaps it worked in limiting the infection's spread? Definitely limited the tourism spread!

^^ I doubt there's much happening in Toronto ACA. Montreal perhaps, but in TO everyone's busy making $$$. ;)

Grrrrrr. @ Player36

Antibiotics only effect bacteria NOT viruses. There is a very strong danger of antibiotic resistant bacteria (like TB) becoming a world wide epidemic but this has nothing to do with viruses. Spent two years as a Microbiologist, one of my pet peeves.

One the subject of the Bird Flu, any money or effort spent to develope an innoculation to prevent it is a waste of time. Why not pick any one of the hundred thousand viruses that potentially can mutate to cause a pandemic. SARS did not come from a chicken remember and it was just as potentially deadly.

Why did they make this silly movie, simple, scary stories sell.

You can't make a vaccine for something that hasn't mutated yet. Hopefully if it does mutate and become able to spread via humas, we won't take long to find one.
