Do you guys wear shoes indoors?

I put shoes on in small room next to front door before going out. When I return I take them off my feet. This way all the crap from outside won't come inside the house. Floors stay clean. Stocks stay clean when walking around.

I have understood commonaly Americans wear shoes both outdoors and indoors. Why on earth?

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

Hell no! It's uncivilized. Those shoes come off the minute I enter a house. Praise to slip-ons, clogs and mules.

I don't allow shoes in my home either, I don't think americans in general wear shoes in the house any more then any other country except for a few exceptions like Japan etc, When I went to europe the ppl I stayed with always had there shoes on in the house.

I must be an uncivilized person then. I wear them most of the time inside. Reason: None at all. It may be because my feet are comfy, or maybe I am just lazy. I do sometimese take them off, but not when I get home.

I normally take them off anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes after I get in the house.

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

Shoes off... Comfy slippers on. Like walking on pillows....

I always leave my shoes on - I have really small feet so its easier for me to walk with shoes on. However, I always kick'em off sitting on the sofa. XD

I take the shoes off. It is because I don't want the floor to get dirty and the other is that my shoes kill! So whenever I get home, I take em off immedetly! I can just feel that relaxation! XD

When I come home I immediately go over to my neighbors residence. Before enteriing their home I find the biggest pile of dog crap this side of the Mississippi. I then enter their home with shoes on. I guess I should mention that I normally wear cleets.

@ The Ghast
Need I remind you that you're a dude. "Comfy." You should be slapped for simply using that word Shep.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

Well I am of true asian descent, and if one hapless fool were to touch his shoes onto my carpet or wooden floor, I would whack that fool on the head. :) Please keep the shoes outside or near the door in the inside (that is the only lace where I won't hit you for leaving your shoes there). :)

Everyone takes their shoes off in my house, My parents wear slippers but my sister and I just wear white socks (Man do those pick up dirt easily)

If anyone walks in our house with shoes on we dont tell them but just bitch about them when they leave ;)

Depends on the shoes...

If they are my clean going around town shoes then yes I do wear them around the house. The small amount of dirt that comes in on them the vacuum easily takes care of. I also have a wonderful steamcleaner for cleaning up all the mess I make while I eating and watching TV on the couch.

As for my work shoes they come off in the garage and the socks are tossed into the dirty hamper immediately. I usually have a small pile fo dirt after I shake them out.

This brings up a funny thing that happened to me this winter. I was down in Arizona planting some melon fields and hopped in a car and rushed to the airport to get home that night. Now as I came directly from the field I had a couple of shovels full of dirt in my shoes. I thought nothing of it because that is the normal state of my shoes for most of the year. Then I got to the airport and started through security. When I got to the front and remembered that I had to take off my shoes and put them through the x-ray, I started laughing. But a laws a law and so off they came with a stream of sand and dirt all over the floor. I then proceded to walk throught the metal detector leaving dusty footprints. The look of disgust on some of the people who came after me was freek'n hilarious. I then had to put my feet back into the shoes and rearrange the dirt into a more comforatable position with my toes before I moved on.

Hum... Well now, this is an odd thread. Lol.

It all depends on the shoes. I buy shoes for their arches and quality. Now when I need to get a new pair of sneakers with a good arch ill walk almost everywhere bare foot..... Yes, barefoot ya civilized pansys. :P I'll literally walk throught school barefoot, or a store or what ever barefoot. Only when I have no cuts on feet or if the area isn't terrible bacteria wise.

Anyways, yes I do where my shoes in the house, also I wear my shoes and a pair of boxers and nothing else in the house.... Thought I should include that too =)

@the V - lol. Sounds like me and my work boots :P

Half and half for me too on this one. Clean shoes, I go for it, dirty work boots gotta come off in garage. Like the V but with sawdust piles instead of dirt. Really not a big deal for shoes in the house as we have two labs so we have to vacuum every other day anyway.

Agree with ya soulless.....strange thread but oddly liberating to post. :)

Always wear them inside in Australia as you have to be really careful of the snakes. They are always hiding under the sofa and like to hide behind the TV as it is nice as warm.
Also have to be wary of the spiders and scorpions.
Broken beer bottles are also another common hazzard that result in the requirement for wearing shoes inside.

Getting dirt inside is not really an issue as most houses in Australia dont have a floor, the floor is the dirt.
Hopefully next year we will get running water.

Shoes come off!

I walk in with my shoes and so are my guests. But I go barefoot as soon as I can or think about it - I think that's the healthiest and the most comfy - the feet breath! I have hardwood floors which are easy to clean. Carpets are different; something about carpets holding one pound of dust per square feet or something - then you leave the shoes out, makes sense.

I wonder if this is a regional kind of thing (to some degree).

When I lived in upstate NY, people had "mud rooms" at the back of the house where you removed the soggy wet boots and muddy shoes. Most people had sock feet or slippers indoors.

Then I moved to CA, and nobody had that. Most houses just had a front door, and if you removed shoes, it was to preserve a nice carpet. A few people asked guests to do that. Most of the time, nobody asked.

Now I live in WA, and most people I know don't have "mud rooms", but it is very common to be asked to lose the shoes when you come in. A few people even provide slippers for guests if they want them.

If I think about it, maybe it's more of an urban/suburban/rural thing. How acceptable is it to walk through the house if your dog or horse or cow's exhaust, or mud, or other nastiness may have inadvertently found it's way to the footwear? Perhaps it's related to that.

I think all of the older houses in New England/northeast USA have some sort of mud room. The house I grew up in was on the banks of what used to be the Erie canal, and had two "mud porches" - what my mom called them. Alot of the more modern homes are lacking this room.
My current apartment has all hardwood floors, so as long as yer shoes aint muddy, they can stay on. Moving into my first house Aug. 1, with wall-to-wall carpeting. No shoes on the carpet.

In parts of India they don't wear shoes in stores. Right outside the front door there's a pile of flip flops and sandals. Everyone inside barefoot. Of ocurse the heat made it so you didn't want to wear shoes... Or pants.
