I agree Rogue
It doesn't matter at what price; it is the
owners right not to sell. This is going
to be a very slippery slope if not corrected.

Yes, very scary indeedy. In Kentucky apparently eminent domain can only be used for highways and government buildings. It is VERY scary. Across the river in Cincinnati, Ohio they are tearing down 70 yr old neighborhoods and replacing them with high end condos and retail shops. It is quite disgusting to see people who have lived their whole lives (and dreams?) in these neighborhoods moved out in the name of the almighty dollar. Sure they get decent money, but the value goes up after their gone.
Land of the free? Hmmm..
The court found that if an economic project creates new jobs, increases tax and other city revenues, and revitalizes a depressed (even if not blighted) urban area, it qualifies as a public use.
That's a pretty broad statement to force you to give up your house... :S
This is one of those good ideas on paper, but the reality sucks, especially if you're the one losing your home. Its just another step towards losing our rights. Owning property was a biggie during the Revolution and forming our US of A. Its downright amazing that such a law would pass and that <sigh>, the populace is taking it once more.
Anyone think that its becoming more of a dictatorship?...everything belongs to the state and the government
HAIL TO THE THIEF... Err I mean bush.
^ I wouldn't blame Bush for that. I think we need to blame our lawmakers aka congress. Didn't the judiciary make the last call on eminent domain?
Okay, here's what really bugs me about this.
I can't help but dramatize the situation and parallel this mularkey to gentrification. I feel this further separates the haves from the have nots and I'm solely considering economic standards here and not race.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.
Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.
Hmm...yes I beleive the blame rests in all our laps. This is yet another example of capatilsm at its best. I've occasionally thought that given enough time on this society's current course our capatilistic ways may just consume themselves. Gotta think on the grand scale and in general terms....but me thinks an implosion is imminent.

Oh Please, GS. Capitalism's conerstone is property rights. It's collectivism that negates property rights!!!!

To the point: There is now an attempt by the Govt to seize your property for any and all reasons. It was intended to serve the public and now is used to simply make a buck.
Why I'm Interested: I just experienced a case like this in my professional life. This is also going on down in SE Washington DC.
Who Gets the shaft?: Lower income folks who do receive fair market value but this value will only carry them so far.
Consequences: Private property by citizens will become a myth. You can argue that these folks receive fair payment, I'll disagree. If there's interest in this subject I'll gladly give you the reasons why I believe this is abhorant.
