Forums Index >> Skins >> Time saver for skinners: Texture Reload Hotkey

Page : <1> :

Shortcut to reload textures while in game. No need to quit and relaunch each time you make a change.

1. First make a BACKUP copy of Main.cs. If you mess up main.cs, it can make TT not work, so make sure you have a backup copy before making any changes.

2. Then add this to the bottom of main.cs using a text editor (like Notepad):

GlobalActionMap.bindCmd(Keyboard, "F4", "", "flushTextureCache();" );

3. Now whenever you hit 'F4' when in ThinkTanks, it will reload all the skins. So if you made any changes, it will reload them and you can see the changes immediatly.

Now you can make changes to your skin in your graphics app, save changes, then switch to TT and hit F4 on your keyboard to see the changes. Switch to graphics app, tweak map, save. Go back to TT and hit F4, etc, repeat. No more quitting and waiting for the game to reload.

I would recommend going to Options in TT and unchecking 'Fullscreen' to make switching between programs easier.

If you don't have an F4 key, you can change the "F4" to "CTRL R" or some other hotkey that you prefer.

Make backups of any Skins before you edit them. But if you didn't and need the originals again, go here .

I haven't tried this on a mac yet. So if someone gets it working, let everyone know.

Have fun! :)

Yep! It does work on Mac, although there is a short lag period in between the button press and the change.

OK, I'm glad that PC users have to suffer for a short second too. :)

Very nice. I don't suppose it works with the Skin Viewer, does it?

It is TT specific. In the version of TGE (yes there are versions) that skin viewer was compiled with. I heard from Jaj that he was working on a better version of skin viewer.
