Forums Index >> Leagues and Tournaments >> Proposal for all future TT tournaments: Divide and...

Page : <1> :

I've noticed a disturbing and annoying trend that seems to prevail in every single TT tournament and league. A constant complaint about lag and scheduling conflicts. I believe I've found the answer to these problems that contuinue to steal our joy when it comes to the game we love. Since the TT community is obviously a global group (players come from all corners of the world ), I propose that from now on, every tournament and league be constructed according to geographical region! It would solve many issues and serve many purposes. For example:

No More Scheduling Madness!
It would make scheduling matches tremendously more simple and easy! In the current 3 on 3 team scrum tournament, many of us have had a nightmare of a time trying to coordinate schedules with players on the other face of the Earth! If we carved up our tournaments and leagues into geographical blocks then this mess would never happen! There would eventually be a European regional champion, a North American champion, a South American Champion, an Asian Champion and so on! Obviously, once these diverse regions ultimately meet in the quarter final or finals, compromises would have to be made, but that's one headache as opposed to a constant stream of migranes that everyone has to endure the way it is now and has been for too damn long! Divide and conquer as the old saying goes.

Much improved servers and less lag!
The other major thing that this concept would resolve is the matter of server quality and lag. Everyone understands how unfair it is to players who live the furthest away from a server. The farther away you are from a server, the worse your ping rate and the worse your ping rate, well you know the rest. Making tournaments regional makes perfect sense because it allows players on both teams to play on a centralized server that is hosted locally (as local as possible anyway)! It will mean better performance and less lag. A win win for all involved. Obviously, once the regional champions confront one another in the final rounds, alternating the site of the servers would be the only fair thing to do: teams take turns being the home team and visitor. Sounds like a plan, huh?

There are many other benefits to doing things this way. One of them is just simply making the entire experience less painful and thus more enjoyable. We can all just focus on what we love best about TT and that is playing! Less lag and less whining and complaining about schedules sure would help matters, wouldn't it?

Note: Some will ask, what if one player is from Europe and the other two are from the USA? Well, that will depend on the skill level of that player. How much will the lag and poor quality of host impact that player? If it's someone like Trivox or Stinkfingers then it won't hurt them too much since they have proven to be spectacular players despite their horrific ping rate. If on the other hand they are mere mortals, you might consider playing in their region, but that would mean the two american players would suffer painful ping rates and more lag, thus hurting the team even more. So the answer would be to try to stick to players from your own neck of the woods. Makes life so much easier.

Good idea, only problem is that the N. American champs would have to play many more games than say the European or South American or Asian champs to actually become the champs. I'd say North America be split into East, West, and Central if this was to come into play.

@Walrus
excellent point... You took the divide and conquer concept even further and it still works! Excellent...
Yes, the same principles apply in that example because west coast players benefit from servers hosted in their region and the time zone issues can also cause a problem (3 hours difference from east to west). So yes, regional champs within the North American region is a must.
