Hi all. This is Spunky's dad.

I would like the child safe filter to be in so that unwanted language would be filtered through.

However, Spunky does have friends on Think Tanks, so is there a way to only filter through foul language, and not all of it?

Also, is there a way to turn off the Player #1,2,3 and so on feature?

I know Spunky has this on the game, but just in case.. ;) It "Ignores" the chat from the players being annoying, Like spamming chat, using bad words, Ect. And you cant hear them!

Like so:

Example: assuming you want to ignore the chat from "Ann0y1ngYutz", type:

/I yutz

Or,

/ignore ann0

I

Will open up the chat box already filled with /ignore

CTRL + I

Will cycle through the names of players in the game

Hi Spunky and his dad. :)

We are certainly sorry that some members of the community use foul language and I want to assure you that we at BraveTree take it seriously and are devising ways to deal with it. If there was a simple good solution we would jump on it. Unfortunately, filters that simply cover up foul language are notoriously ineffective because they are easily out-maneuvered (e.g., "h e l l o", "h*ll@", "h^e^l^l^o", you get the idea). The child filter is the only safe way to go. Unfortunately, that means no chat at all, as many people have pointed out. The next option is the ignore script (contributed by LagMan and described by Racer above ). One still has to put up with annoying people initially, but at least they are easily silenced. This option might be adequate for your son, depending on whether you are mostly concerned about him being exposed to the foul language or if you are just concerned about him having to put up with it.

Unfortunately, that's all we have right now. We will be rolling out some changes for 1.2 that will be more proactive, but there is no release date yet for 1.2 or those changes. Some of those changes, however, might make it into the servers on PlanetThinkTanks before 1.2 comes out.

Finally, may I suggest a change to the ignore script that might suffice for Spunky and dad: allow a config file so that you can set it to ignore everyone by default, but allow selective people.

The script might look something like this:

/ignore EVERYONE

/allow Racer445 (SA)©

/allow CyberTank()

...

Or perhaps one could save interpreting the config file and put the data into prefs (any variable starting with "pref::" will be persisted between sessions):

$pref::Chat::Ignore0 = "EVERYONE";

$pref::Chat::Allow0 = "Racer445 (SA)©";

$pref::Chat::Allow1 = "CyberTank()";

Perhaps this would be a good project for someone wanting to make a contribution.

Ps. The Player#1, Player#2 feature is required for the child filter to truly be child safe. This is also why server names do not get displayed when the child filter is on. We will take into consideration the idea of providing different levels of child safety, so that one could, e.g., still see foul language in server & player names but see no chat.

Oooh. I'm getting a scripting lesson from a smarter friend lol, so this may be a project for me.

I am both worried of him being exposed to the language, mostly. However, this "Ignore Script" does work well, I've asked Spunky to show me it in the game. I thank you for your efforts on this, 56k Lag Man.

Is there a way to block out names from the ignored person? So that you wouldn't have to stare at his/her name every time that you look at the score board.

WOW! ^ just broke the bump record of 1 year (set in the UF Tactics thread). My mental math isn't amazing, but that is almost a year and a half right?

I'm not trying to be mean to people for bumping (that's DJ's job :P). I just think these huge bumps are rather funny.
