Video games linked to aggression in boys

What about football and hockey where the players commit actual physical violence on each other with the intention to injure and maim?

Video games are way easier to pin the blame of violence on than sports. They're also a great way for kids to weasle out of trouble when they are aggressive. Instead of taking the blame, they can just say "GTA made me do it!!" and all the soccer moms and politicians will believe them.

Ok, yes. I admit. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory made me a little aggresive since it is acutally a World War II. But man, it is such an addictive game! :P

EDIT: Well counting that the fact that the child might have been abused to be trained to kill?! I mean a mere video game can't change a persons persanolity to make them want to kill someone! If I were to play Enemy Territory for 1 hour, would I want to kill someone? Absolutely not! Violent video games might make a person upset a little when their guy dies, but it doesn't make them too upset that they want to do violent actions. :)

Yesterday, after playing halo for two days straight, I got an overwhelming urge to throw a grenade somewhere... Freaky :S

^ yes I have had that happen to me before too
after playing something like rainbow six for a couple hours, you actually get scared on the stealth missions... Gotta stay quiet... OH CRAP BLAM BLAM BLAM!!!! Dang it that was a team member!

In my opinion, video games can change your mood and how you react to certain things.... For a while
after the video game is turned off, the feeling dissappears soon
however sports like hockey and football, you intentionally try to hurt the good players so they sit out for you to take the win and that feeling stays with you...
but you see, everyone thinks sports are "extracurricular" and somehow "education" and that playing on the team will develop "teamwork"
but it doesnt
I have seen crimes committed against team mates on the football team here just so this particular person cant play in the game
all sports are is a way to harness the cruelty of children and teens for the entertainment of the masses

My history teacher doesnt think that video games are worthless
he will give me extra credit to play civilization or any video game involving history

It is just easier to blame video games
but all it is is an excuse and they know it too

In my opinion, the biggest downside to video games is the disconnect from reality. That's also one of the big upsides too. We all like to get immersed in a game for a time.

What I mean is if a kid spends hours and hours playing their Atari 2600 and not doing anything else, that's not good. (Oops, wrong era. That was like 25-30 years ago...)

Anyway, the same thing is true today. If someone spends too much time on a video game, and doesn't spend any time relating to the people around them, that's not so good. Some people have a hard time finding the balance. Some have no problem with it. I bet you fall in there somewhere.

I do think that some kids get overly aggressive when they spend too much time playing violent games, but I also think it's temporary. It may be that little boys go to school and try out their favorite games moves on their pals at recess, but they soon learn that's a bad idea.

I find it hard to buy a total connection between violent games and the rare kid who "goes postal" somewhere. I'd bet they would have done that with or without the games. I may be wrong, but I don't think so.

Disconnecting from reality is a fact when playing a video games! I mean you would want to concentrate more on killing the guy with your MP40 than worrying about the next test coming up soon. :P

But if people stay connected with reality and the game, they have less problems with those that completely blank their mind and place it to that particular game. I am that kind of person that stay connected with the two since I always have to worry about the time.

The stargest thing JUST happened. Like, about 30 seconds ago. I was realing what I had missed... Oh yeah, you might want to know that I just beat halo. Anyway, my mom tuned on the fan, and it sounded like a banshee, and I fell off my chair, threw my mouse at the fan (external, not the build in one :P ) and assumed some sort of weird position on the ground... My mom, needless to say, was quite mad and I must type faster because I think she is goint to take my comp away for a whi-

Lol PGG was that some sort of sticky-bomb and duck tactic
(er, plasma grenade, but when playing multiplayer its easier to yell STICKYBOMB!!!)

Best combination game ever is swords and rocket launchers and plasma grenades no vehicals !!!!!
this game takes true skill to master... And it is sooooo friggen hillarous!!!!

Best game I ever played a teammate of mine actually managed to stickybomb a player, sword him, and hit him with the rocket launcher as he flew thru the air because of his melee...
several seconds later a random blue explosion happend in the air and down fell a players corpse!

Akkk funny!
