Are you sure you should be reading this? LOL

Anyway, let's say some nefarious person enters a server and at the same time starts a ping attack on that server.

How would that manifest itself to the other players?

In other words, would they just all start lagging out? Would the attacker lag out? Would everyone be affected?

What if that person was only pinging YOUR known IP? Would you now be the only laggy player? Would it affect play in other ways?

For instance, when we send a command to turn it is not just one packet that gets sent, but a series of packets. Could your steering now be kinda weird? Like turning when you don't want, or not turning at all when you try, or can only go in one direction like left or right? Or just can't seem to move at all.

Do these questions make you think twice about entering servers knowing your IP is being captured?

Are any of you thinking "busted?"

Just asking. But I'm just a paranoid flea.

Let us know your thoughts on this.

Yes, can be done. If server attack, would lag the server. If you, would lag you.

Doing that is not as easy at it sounds, would probably take a few computers and big pipes. If happens check your router for ping's. If you don't have router get one. Then contact your service provider.

Umm just posting on this website or others, have your IP.

If the person is pinging Player A, Player A would probably lag out, basically with the lag icon in the corner and the game not responding very well. If the person is pinging Server A, everyone in the server would probably lag out, including the attacker.

Hmm... :S

I agree w/ Mon and NUTS!. If there is a personal attack, then it should just lag you out. I don't know nearly as much on this topic as I should though.

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

Lets not discuss this sort of thing on the forums. Please use email instead. I can explain this stuff and so can most of the admins

I can read it, and I can give my 2 cents. :)

If its the host of the server, then everyone's gonna lag around the amount the hoster does. However, even though his/her's ping will usually be 0, it will still lag for everyone.

If somebody comes in with a ton of lag, it may raise the ping for other people a little bit, but it will mostly just be him/her lagging.

If that person attacked your IP, then you would lag, and that lagger will lag some too, though not as much as you.

You would still be able to turn finely, yet your turning will be shaky and uncoordinated. However, you could be shown one place that you're in on your screen, while you're really somewhere else. It takes a few precious section to sort you out and show where you're supposed to be. During that time, you could get blasted away by lonewolf. XD

I know that people could be looking at my IPs, but I also mostly enter safe servers, one hosted by TT/PTT and I'm hoping that the host isn't going to be using my IP for special uses. I can expect that of TT/PTT.

I do make IP lists from other games, but I haven't yet figured out how to check out IPs on TT/PTT. :P

Well, that could be expected from your previous posts ;)

I just did. B)
