Hmmm, sounds like it may just work. But what if your team is full of idiots, and you can't seem to coordinate a strike? B)
Sounds like my normal team, and then you start saying lets do so and so, and the other team says, OK you heard 'em, lets not let them do so and so, and then, well, you know...
That's why god invented Team Chat, u know!! If ur team is a bunch of dolts... Let one of the dolts do the bombing. Just tell him when by team chat!
Team Chat- A way to communicate to each other without the opposing team seeing your plans and screwing them up before you are organized and ready to fight.
Anyway, anybody stupid enough not to use team chat is definitely retarded.
Sounds like it takes too long. How long does a "Strategic Bombing" mission usually take? I'd figure it to be easier to rush full force with all tanks. Usually holes form in the defense where one can get to the scrum holder and take it away or kill him giving you at least another 12 seconds before they can score again. I've found this to be decent and particularly effective on the maps with boost pads rocketing you towards the enemy base although it may take a few passes to be able to retrieve the scrum.

I think that you have to see what ur doing, It depends : is the other team coming in one group er not ,... Its ofcours easy to defend with a BIG team but with a small team is it a lot more difficult.
Shoot the guy with the scrum or come back from behind.
Works for me
I would kick someone off my team if they did that, this doesn't work for 3 reasons.
A) It takes to long. If you charge in and kill the scrum holder, or manage to get the ball but die quickly, it's still a successful run because you've stopped the counter and given the rest of your team more time to get in there.
B) While your driving around looking for an area effect and the rest of your teams backs off, your just letting the other team rack up MROE points that you will have to catch up to.
C) Say you DO kill them, you can't get yourself in there quick enough to do anything. If the rest of your team 'backs off' then that means the other team will just respawn right next to there goal and still get back in there at the same time your team does, and if they're already that good at defense they'll surely kill everyone with their new and healthy tanks... While outnumbering your team by one because your all the way up on some hill.
Try sniping with a speed shot sometime. ONLY if by chance you get one along the way to their goal, don't drive around for it.
Actually, I find area of effect better....
Stupid stupid stupid. Don't you see it?? They'll eventually figure it out and figure it out too soon for you to take anything. The loner tank will probably get killed by a defending team member.
I dont know if this would work on team I had, we got 63 points and oposing team got 0.
I feel that the only correct way to pull this maneuver off is to play with you own team. What I mean is that in tournaments you have a team set up to play! Well you will all try and would follow plans, beacuse your a team and you practice and trust each other! (I hope) But if your playing in a sever and just random people. Well they are not gonna care. Poor Silbarcae(how ever u spell it) had his troubles earlier against me! His own team mate was killing and takeing the flag from him! It was great for my team, but not for his! It was halarious he was yelling and everything, but the idiot (Kamakazy) wouldn't listen! So as you can see that you need to pre-plan this, that is the only way I feel it will work out!
I have to agree with LilAlienD (FU)
1. Usually the spawn points for the defending army are near the goal, so in the end you're loosing points and giving the defenders fresh tanks.
2. If I'm playing with a quality team and people try to use this strategy we usually send a couple tanks out to attack the "bombers". Now the attackers have to deal with defensive fire coming from the goal and from roaming defenders.
3. The most important task of the attackers is stopping the counter (like FU said). You've got to stop that counter at all costs. Just drive through a gate, put your head down (so to speak) and charge the flag holder!
Interesting topic.

Most of the time this tactic can't be "planned out".....the times that I have used the area effect were all spur of the moment but had a devastating effect....particularly if you can get behind the defending goal without them seeing you. It can't be at long range though - you have to be able to fire them rapidly.

We all had this experience at least once before: you are behind in score and you can't seem to get the scrum back because the other team so good at playing defense. This should be a great way to see them panic! I call this manuever "Strategic Bombing". (Just like the good 'ol days of WWII) It works like this: all BUT 1 player charges and keeps the other team busy, while the loner looks for an area-effect pickup. The standard bombs work out alot here. Once the lone tank grasps the right weapon and gets set in a good spiping position, the rest of the team backs off. Then the fun begins for the defending team! The loner fires like mad the the enemy base with the special weapon, firing all over the place inside the base. The flag holder has to run like hell to dodge everything, but he can't! VERY fun for the lone tank. Right when the bombing stops, the team charges in again, finishing them off!
