A few days ago I came across a website that offered remote access to your computer from anywhere, they were also offering a free 1 month trial.

So I signed up for the trial and to say I am impressed is an understatement!!!! I am even writing this post from a computer 90 miles from home, but accessing PTT through firefox on my computer at home. This system basically displays your own desktop and allows you to access ANY area of your computer and use ANY of the programs or resources such as networks, printers etc on your machine as if you were actually sitting in front of it. The system also allows transfer of files and even printing of documents from your host machine onto a local printer!! And all of this set up in about 5 minutes, even remote connection to your computer only takes about 45 seconds, how good is that!!!

The question has to be asked. What kinda lag you get running TT this way? :o

^ It's a remote comp to comp access program, not a nuclear powered engine XD that would be huge banthwith, and would require both comps to have good graphics cards, fast internet, and very fast processors, and even then I doubt u'd get even close to perfect frame rates XD

Use RealVNC, theres a free version and works exactly like that. Also cos it's a program you install in your computers you will not need to register in that goToMyPc site... Google it ;)

Indeed but you can go to an internet cafe and use this without having specfic software

I use RealVNC too. VNC has been around forever and works great on windows, mac, and linux/unix systems.

VNC is tried and true, but Dazzle is right, having VNC function in a browser interface is a huge improvement.

Note: If you dig deeply enough you find its not Mac compatible. I suppose you could get a low cost PC to act as the gateway to the Macs on your LAN.

These kinds of tools can be very handy.

I'm using Apple Remote Desktop on our LAN to access computers remotely and also to monitor student use.

It can run over the Internet too, but I don't use it that way. (It does freak people out when I get on their computers and help them, though...)

Parrallels works cool, only slows down the comp to the double of a common PC's speed ;)

Be careful with remote desktop software in general. Use strong passwords, restrict access by ip address if possible. Turn it off when you don't need it

I am a big fan of krdc http://packages.debian.org/unstable/net/krdc and samba http://us5.samba.org/samba/ . I have been using them a lot lately for compiling tgb in windows than bringing it over to linux, works nice.

There is java VNC, just host it somewhere and go there when you need to, only java must be installed.
