Meh, go with the falchion. YOu can thrust and what not, but slashing and speed is way better! :P
I got with the biggest lightest swiftest striking sword out there!
Have a great t't day!

Which sword have you practised with more? If you have practised fencing more than general swordplay, then go with the rapier, otherwise I would recommend the falchion. You're right; a rapier is a deadly weapon in the hands of a professional.
It depends on your personal capabilities. Do you have very fast reflexes, but not as much strength and leverage? Do you have the strength and stamina to wave the larger blade around for prolonged periods? Which motion feels easier to you - the Poke-Poke of the rapier, or the Swing-Batter-Swing of the falchion (yes, technically the slash is performed differently than swinging a baseball bat, but it's close)?
My personal choice for me would probably be a Bastard Sword - can be used one or two handed as needed, and has a decent reach.
PS - ALL weapons are deadly in the hands of a trained professional. ;)

@ Master TMO
LOL, you're right, any weapon would be deadly in the hands of a professional... And the Bastard Sword is a nice choice, so I may go w/ that.
@ SpunkyŠ
I practice more w/ the rapier.... I've been fencing now for 4 1/2 years and I want to expanse on my personal armory. I mostly have short swords, like wakizashis.

I like katanas as they can cut threw other swords without leaving a mark(wow)
Bull pucky!
You've been watching too many bad movies.
Lightsabers are the only weapons that can do that! XD

No really they can: they used to do test on the swords
a good samuri sword could cut threw another sword without leaving a mark, another test was to cut threw the stem of a lily pad without distrubing the lily pad.
I read it in a history book.

I can't decide which is better. The rapier is good for parrying and thrusting, and is deadly in the hands of a professional. The falchion is better for hack-and-slash techniques, and it's weight compensates for its speed....which one do you think is better??
