Hi all,
OK, geek moment ahead. I just received my Airport Express with Airtunes and I am in awe. The setup was incredibly simple and the help was perfect.

First I plug the little airtunes box into my home stereo. Then I was able to easily get airtunes to recognize my existing wireless internet connection and it made itself invisible as part of the Linksys system. Then I was asked what I want to name the airtunes connection to the home stereo, so I named it "Living Room Stereo" and BAM a new popup appeared in iTunes giving me the option to transmit my song library to my home stereo. Suddenly I have thousands of songs at my fingertips in my home stereo. VERY COOL.

And that isn't all, Caryn's PC could instantly connect to airtunes as well.

Here is the geekgasm though. On my notebook downstairs I logged on to and "Shared" the itunes library on my G5 FROM THE THIRD FLOOR!!!, and proceeded to play the songs to Airtunes and through my home stereo.

So, do you get what I just said? From the kitchen table, I am accessing and playing (in real time), 4000 songs that reside on my G5 three floors up, and instantly transmitting songs from my G5 through my powerbook to Airtunes and to my home stereo.

My mind is blown about this.

Powerbook on Kitchen table---------> G5 (on third floor)---------(back to Powerbook table with list of 4000 songs)-------> (Play G5's songs on my powerbook) -----> signal picked up by Airtunes) ----> plays songs from upstairs G5 in CD quality. Damn that is cool.

Ah yes, Apple makes so many innovative products... IBM and Dell, you say? Tsh, Tsh... They make the same ol' (ugly) towers, same ol' (ugly) monitors, same ol' (ugly) keyboards and mice... They're all black or grey. They don't have 2 layers, like Apple does, that gives Macs such dynamic, 3D looks. XD

PEOPLE... Can't you see the light yet? Get a Mac!!!

Our son went to a high school with a $200,000 video production lab but they had him do ALL the school videos last year on his powerbook - ha ha ha!

They still don't get it though.

I don't evangelize much anymore - I just let people draw their own conclusions. I was really proud last year when all four of the high school seniors that worked for me asked for powerbooks from their PC loving parents for graduation and would accept nothing less.

Now all you need is the USB Keyspan remote that plugs into the Airport Express and you can skips tracks. Pause etc, will standing near the stereo. No need to use the stero controls.

Also keep I mind you can stream those webcast radio stations also.

Good times.

MJ

I received an Airport Express for Christmas. My Dad had read about it working with a stereo so I hooked it up to his stereo and configured it on his home network. Surprise, surprise, I headed home without my Christmas present. :)

Actually, I suggested leaving it. I didn't really want to try walking him through the setup over the phone and I can't really "stop by" since it's an 8 hour trip one way. I did receive a new Airport Express in the mail within a week of getting home. I haven't hooked it up to my stereo but I do have it working as a print server. One that doesn't disappear when my iMac goes to sleep.

@TG, Have you thought about getting Caryn a Mac Mini and a KVM switch. She could migrate to a Mac at her own pace.

Excellent idea MJ!
TG, when is Caryn's birthday? *hint, hint* Well, I'm glad she's coming around for you. I understand how hard it must be to accept that thing in the relationship, you being such a Mac-head and all. Hehe. At least she's not a PeeCee advocate. Sounds like she just used one because that's what others were using, but now she's getting a taste of the other side, and likes it! :)
