I've -finally, after 2 months!- Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. It was just send my post. It has no instructions on how to install, tho.
-- I have some questions --
1. I would like to install it so my computer can run both Win XP and Ubuntu 6.06, how?
2. Will TT work on it?
3. Will I have to do much, to use internet?
4. What is the Live CD? (it seems to be a "On-CD-Operating System (?))
---
Could some-one help me, plz?

1. Yes, How: depends on your set up--2 hard drives?
2. Yes, very nicely
3. Don't think so, depends on your set up, dial/dsal/cable
4. The live cd lets you see what you would get if you installed Ubuntu to your desk top. It's a nice feature to let you check things out before you actually install. All you need to do is go into your BIOS and have the cd load first, normally its set on the A drive.

I would look over these websites first, very informataive

http://www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=10843

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/

Doing a google search is also very helpful.

2. Do I need to rebuy it (got it from Reflexive Arcade, wish only supports Windows :( )
3. Cable (whit in-house LAN)
4. Is it normal I get a black screen, whit some lines of code when I start up.
5. Thanks for the websites, tho: the garagegame one is only for TGE-owners.

Thanks :)

Boot into it, and follow the instructions. Use manual partitioning, and go to D: (it should show up as hda2), and change the formatting option to "Yes". Change the mount point to "/", and go on with the install. Welcome aboard!

1. Make sure you back up everything you want off D: then follow ^'s guide.
2. You will need to re-buy it from GarageGames. But remember, now you have access to the Mac, Windows and Linux copies.
3. Easy to set up.
5. Black screen with code should be there once you installed it... When you boot off the live cd and there is a black screen with code then it is detecting system stuff (dmesg) and it should only be there a short bit.

I asked GG for a key, and told them I had a Shockwave one. They gave me a GG key and link after I showed them my SW key. Don't get your cash out yet!

Good Luck!

If you have any probs I would always look the ubuntuforums first, lotsa info there. I have tried a lot of different distro's of linux and Ubuntu has always installed easy and can get to run the easiest. I have always bee a fan of automatrix ( http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=80295 ) , sets your machine up nice with a lot of bells and whistles. Once you get comfortable with Ubuntu you can start checking out other distros. I think the BSD distros are becoming very user friendly and fast. For whatever reason desktopBSD is the only OS that I can get to run my old laptop. Windows and other Linux distros just crash the hard drive, with BSD it has been up and running for days. Another free OS that I have found interesting is Suns os Solaris, but is very picky about what machies it will run on.

Cas, you will need to set up 3D if you haven't already. Run the command lspci | grep VGA and post the output.

If it has nvidia or ati in it then you get use EasyUbuntu to install them in a matter of minutes. If it is anything else you will need to go find info on how to install 3d on it.

EXAMPLE: here is the output of mine. Mine is Nvidia so I used the Nvidia drivers:

tux@penguin:~$ lspci | grep VGA
0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600/GeForce 6600 GT] (rev a2)

Automatix is also a really great tool to set up your machine easy with lots of common apps.

Good luck!
