@ Suri,
An off the topic comment, but since when have you retired from TT? Have I missed something?
SK
I would think so. Just need a better graphics card and make sure the mother board could handle it.
Btw- that would be one wicked system.
^ What NUTS! Said.
Also make sure the operating system you intend to use can utilize dual processors. Specifically, Windows XP Home/95/98 can't.
Yes it can be used as a desktop. You'll have to get a graphics card. Be warned servers are noisy. Builders plan on them going in a server room where no one works so they don't
worry about noise, just keeping them cool.

After having a talk w/ serial killa about Ubunta and flavors of Linux, I was wondering if there is a way to run an OS on a server, just like a PC, so that the server can act as a desktop replacement...
I saw a server on www.tigerdirect.com. It is the 'VisionMan Dual Xeon Nocona 3GHz Hotswap RAID-5'. Specs include:
-Dual (2) 3ghz Irwindale Xeon
-800Mhz FSB / 2MB CPU Cache
-Intel E7320 (Lindenhurst VS) Server Chipset
-2GB Micron ECC REG PC2700 DDR333
-Three (3) 160GB SATA Hard Drives
-7200 RPM & 8MB Cache Buffer
-Tower Chassis with 450 Watt PS
-Four (4) SATA150 Hot Swap Bays
-Sony 52x CDRW Drive (Black) w/Software
-1.44MB Floppy Drive (Black)
-LSI Logic MegaRAID 4-Port RAID-5 Controller
-Intel 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet NIC
- 8MB Onboard ATI Rage XL Video
Some of the stuff on this list has me scratching my head trying to figure out what it is. However, I would like to know if this could somehow be a desktop replacement, if configured to the right standards, of course...
