I know I have said this before, but the movie "Contact" is one of the most interesting Science Fiction movies ever made. I think the movie brilliantly handles the question of Science vs Religion without taking sides and yet gives validity to both sides.

I just saw Contact on HBO (for the fourth time) and I'm all giddy right now. Carl Sagan is/was a genius.

Mods... Feel free to lock this thread or make it vanish... Not much else to say... I was just on a sci-fi-high and had to share....

If you like contact, I think you would like Serenity. It has a very interesting veiw of the future, as well as a lot of excelent humor. http://fireflyfans.net/main.asp

You can see the series on sci-fi at seven... Normally. Unless they are running that stupid "I am a lost man" show...

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

I loved Serenity. I would have to say science fiction movies are my favorite genre. I have never seen COntact. What is it about?

Contact is a great story written by Carl Sagan... (look it up in google)... The bottom line is... It is a present day story about being contacted by a superior alien race (thus the name "Contact") and largely addresses some of the "real life" questions that an event like this would create. A large part of the story deals with science vs religion and how the two are different, and yet similar.

There are a few good special effects (and there is more to the story than what I have described but I don't want to give it away since you have not seen it...) Mostly it is a character driven story. I think Contact would not be interesting to kids at all....

I just saw a Sci-Fi movie called "12 Monkeys." Anyone else ever seen it? I thought it was very interesting, and really well made. I also liked Serenity, but I've never seen Contact.

Good recommendation, ghost. Contact was one of the more thought provoking movies I've seen come out in the last ten years or so. There were so many intriquing angles you can take off from with that movie.

Now you made me remember that I was going to read Contact after I saw the flick. Off to the library...
