With all the incredible technical talent we have in the TT community (Reagent X, Napalm, Dash, Rooster, Bolo, Max, etc. Etc.), couldn't we find a way to develop a way to host our own quick and dirty TT network of servers whenever (not if, but when) the regular network of servers goes in the dumper? Isn't there a way to do this kind of ad hoc network? It seems just a matter of changing IP addresses, subnet masks, etc.
I think it's a worthy cause and challenge. No?

Bolo, if anyone YOU of all people should know a thing or two about complaining to no end when things aren't how you want them to be.

I haven't looked into doing this yet as they always get the server back up pretty quick and it would kind of be stepping on garage games and bravetree's toes I think. I'd rather provide a backup master server for TT only.

Wasting your time here. Even if you could, it would require every player to changes thier settings, and then change them back when the real servers come back on line.

Not worth it.

We could get around the users changing their settings using round-robin DNS to share requests between multiple master servers, that seems like the easiest thing to do.

Great stuff guys. I know the master servers almost never go down and yes I can live a few hours without tt, heck, I've even gone several days without playing TT (GASP!). :)
Bolo, all I can say is... "Mr. Kettle, meet mr. Pot"....heh heh...

@Dash and Napalm
I only think it's worth it because it could come in handy for important matches such as postseason or tournaments where teams want to reduce the amount of lag on servers and perhaps establishing our own network could improve the quality of service. Don't know...still matters where the players are located and their ISPs, etc. Etc.

Also, Dash, you are right about possibly stepping on toes with bravetree and all. I never thought of that. Good point.
We'd have to ask first, of course,
