I found this article interesting for those people that care about bot AIs! :)

"You Don't Want Realistic A.I."

http://www.zenofdesign.com/?p=337

What it is trying to say is that people say they want a realistic AI, but don't want them to be too challenging in action ...

CUC, it figures you would find this.

I remember the bots you were playing around with, and how you kept tweaking them. At one point, they got a bit too accurate, and made it really tough to play in your server. If I remember right, you calmed them down a bit, and they got to be challenging, but didn't just wipe out everything out on sight.

I've often wondered how much psychology is involved in designing games. It seems like a good extension of the field. If AIs act in ways that humans find challenging, but engaging, does the game sell better? If the game goals are interesting and varied, but not easy, does that make the game more addicitve?

I think the cause of this is that humans want to feel superior, skilled and smart. These days, computers and iPods are combatting this view. So to give ourselves that superiority complex again, we feel the need to "beat" our computers.
