Different languages perhaps, different world views definitely.
Yet such debate, verbal jousting, presentation of facts, arguements, history, perspective is not to convince the opposing side but to expose others to your point of view.
Not only that but to rally and inspire those that may believe much of what you say.
There is a place for inspiration and rejuvenation of the spirit.
Many of us are in great need of it these days.
On the subject of inspiration and keeping positive... I received this email from someone in his mid 80's the day after the election:
It's amazing how quickly I got over those dismal thoughts which accompanied
the Bush victory. It was made easier by the fact that there were some
victories locally. La Plata County went Democratic, electing a County
Commissioner (the only seat up for election). Colorado elected a Democratic
Senator. Ken Salazar is an Hispanic, a potato farmer in the San Luis Valley,
south of where we lived. He will be the only Hispanic Senator. His brother
was elected to the U.S. Congress, filling a seat which has been Republican
for many years.
Last evening we had our weekly Peace and Justice mtg. There were 16
attenders (twice the usual number) and gradually there developed such a
positive view of the future and what we can contribute to the community.
Back to basic principles, emphasizing those two words: Peace and Justice.
Our vigils will continue and will stress peaceful alternatives. Some two
months ago we decided to emphasize peace in our weekly vigils rather than
getting into the political realm. We were just plain upbeat as we dispersed
after the mtg.
He's been plugging away for what he believes in for most of his 85 years and he's not about to stop now.
We need ya stink. It's not about what "they" think, it's about what we feel.
Listen, I dont wanna be to disrespekful, but you to fellers need to get over this, and get over yourselfs. Its time to put the Liberal hate down and git with the picture.
Just the other day, my pastor had me and my family sign this pact, which I did gladely. I rekamind you Liberals give it a lookover. Its truths is self evedent:
"I believe that in voting Republican, I am doing the implacable will of God.
I long to join my brother in Christ, George W. Bush, and every single True Christian who voted for Him.
I understand that all of America's problems began when we allowed ourselves to be seduced by the pacifistic false version of Jesus found in the New Testament, letting non-Protestant foreigners into Your divine nation and squandering time we could have been at war trying to make peace with perfectly good enemies, before renewing our hearts and joyously embracing Republican Christianity's new improved, steroid-engorged version of Jesus Christ.
I want to help eliminate the deadly disease of liberalism and assist my President and Your appointed servant on Earth to help rebuild this country into the Glorious Christian Nation it once was on the rocky shores of Puritan New England in the late 1600's.
I gladly tithe my mind and no less than 10% of my paycheck, renouncing the demons of logic and education for they will no longer hold sway in my heart, as I now have both Mr. Bush and Mr. Jesus as my co-redeemers! "
I was tuched to my cor when he read this to me an my kin. We each sined this pledge with teers in are eyes. Even my brother ronnie signed it. Sinse he had both of his arms blowed off in irak, he had to sine it with his mouth, cluthcing the pen betwen his for remaneing teeth.
An outpowerin of rietiousness has overtakin me since! So kwit yer dam belley akin about "enlitenment fillosophy" and uther european pansiness, and MAN-UP!
^^ what what?
Ramrod your president sleep next to the devil...
Thy shall not kill...(over 100,000 people dead in iraq)
Thy shall not lie...(no wmd's does this mean the french has better intelligence)
Why is bush the new savior?
Band gays? No abortion? Lack of gun control?
Free will is why we are on earth, if god wanted to control our minds than
He would not have gave us one. Your failure to open your eyes and see
What is going on is not because you are dumb, its just your hate towards
Liberal ideology. Your hate gave you a bad case of conjuctivitis.
Tho shall not fear but only god.
So be my guess join in the mass killing and join the army...(bushy is going to need you
To fight for his oil).
MAN-UP.
P.s. No excuses on why you cant join the army pls.
Please tell me that ramrod is being sarcastic. Good grief, man...
After a few weeks hiatus, it felt good to play last night. Gotta admit that the forums are certainly looking ugly anymore. There's more battle here than in the game!
I joined the Army to support my country. I swore on the constitution, not the President. While I am certainly not allowed to speak out against him while in uniform (which he apparently enforces), I am permitted to say that, "I wish things were different than they are now."
Terrorism is not a new concept. Where we in this big of a friggin mess 4 years ago? I think not.

Say what you want to, but I got this to say, I am personaly proud to have a moral man back in the wihte house again. I suppose you wuld rather have a precident like kerry in the whiehouse! The man speeks french! Hes no christian, true christians no that god hates gays and hates babykillers, which is what john kerry suports! And he coud never make his mind up. Hes a flipflop. Not george w bush, who always speeks his mind and meens what he says. He got permissin from god to invade iraq and thats gud enouf for me and mine. I am proud to ha someone in whit house that folows gods plans to eleminat gays adn RESTORES FAMLY VALUES.
And I wuoud join the armey if I coud, but I have no time sence I work three jobs right now but my brother ronnie did his time and he'd be happy to serv again. We are all poroud of his sacriface. He lost both of his arms in combat druring the fisrt gulf war. He cant even sine his disabilitey chechs but relis on mysef or paster dave to do so. I'd send me oldest to irq in a heartbeat but he has obligations to the court of muncy county right now. When he pust himself right with them, and gets back with god, god will guid his heart and he will do his patriot duty. My next oldest has too many children to support, and I'm sure the mothers of his children would miss his money if he was to up and go now. My dawter nancy wants to join, but we discorage her. War is for men. Sides, she is just 15. We jest found out that she's pregnent with her second! We cant send predgnat moms to fite, even if the Librals want it that way.
Rejoye sayeth the lord!
The rapture is certanly nigh at hand!
Great post Stink. I struggle to stay in here as well -- it's tough not to feel like you need to change people's minds, especially when you are right and they are wrong. Even more, it's frustrating when you can't.
A wise man once told me that "if there are two people in a room, and both agree, one of 'em ain't needed." I kind of like that. I encourage you to continue posting for the sake of making the ignorant think and the enlightened nod.
P.S. I believe ramrod may be a genius -- hilarious posts. Reminds me a bit of Ol' Pappy. You agree?
@ramrod
I'm sorry to hear about Ronnie. Please tell him we appreciate his sacrifice as do most Iraqis. The world is a safer place because of him. Just out of curiousity, how does Ronnie pray now? Or wave a flag? Or raise a Pro-Life poster in front of Planned Parenthood? Or drive his pick-up truck? Or change the radio station to find a Toby Keith song?
God bless him and you (and George Bush of course).

Yes 44, sounds like ol' pappy alright... Though, I heard Ol' Pappy got right up out of the grave and voted twice for Kerry...
@ ramrod
Ramrod Very Christian-like name, either violent or porn like. Good choice
And I wuoud join the armey if I coud, but I have no time sence I work three jobs right now
It's all about you-
I'd send me oldest to irq in a heartbeat but he has obligations to the court of muncy county right now
Is he in jail?
My next oldest has too many children to support, and I'm sure the mothers of his children would miss his money if he was to up and go now
Ever hear of birth control? Money= Greed Nice Christian trait.
My dawter nancy wants to join, but we discorage her. War is for men. Sides, she is just 15. We jest found out that she's pregnent with her second!
Second child at 15? Nice family morals--
What the hell is going on here?

@RamRod
Renouncing the demons of logic and education for they will no longer hold sway in my heart,
You're saying that logic and education are demons? Advanced logic and education are the things that set us above the apes behind bars in the zoo. Obviously you dropped out of school, since you can't spell to save your life.
I understand that all of America's problems began when we allowed ourselves to be seduced by the pacifistic false version of Jesus found in the New Testament,
Excuse me, but the Pope (the leader of the Catholic Church) condemned this war. The Ten Commandments forbid us to kill. Or are you trying to condemn the New Testament as heretical?
Oh, What faith? Protestant, Catholic or... I sincerely hope that it is not the latter (Catholic) because of the official stance of the Catholic Church on this war. Here I have to resist the urge to post some rather offensive comments about your reading and spelling.
You have the right to be as stupid as you like, under the Constitution of the United States, but seriously... There is a spellchecker built into 99% of all word processing programs. Please use it. In Microsoft Word it is under the tools menu>spelling and grammar check.
People like you make the President look even worse than he does now (even with the blood of millions on his hands) because you show just how illiterate and idiotic a person can be.
Ben
P.S. @Moderators: Seriously, an in-line spell checker would be a fantastic benefit to these forums!
Ramrods a fake, a well know liberal player portraying his view of conservatives.
@56
LOL
@dash
Shhh
@conservatives
Please continue to post replies to ramrod -- I am enjoying this more than should be allowed. I'm gonna piss my pants.

@44 No. This is just low grade spam. Posting this straw man excrement for your buddies to blast with the old flamethrower of righteous indignation is weak.
Here I have to resist the urge to post some rather offensive comments about your reading and spelling.
Not necessary, I have already done this!!
You have the right to be as stupid as you like
Thats right, and please respect his right to do so..... He has excelled here and has take this to new heights
I have spoken to more intelligent bricks than Ramrod.

@44: so If I make a new identity (illiterate, atheistic, communist, bi-sexual, feminist, on welfare, with a nasty crack habit, and 6 children born out of wedlock) so conservatives can blast away is that going to be funny too?
It might...all depends on the dialogue. :P
@dash
It would not be funny -- simply typical.
Whoa there brother! Dont get your pantys all up in a twist! In case you dint notice, we won the lecshun! 59 milion americans just like you and me! Stand up, be proud! We Godly peple can wonce again feel proud to be americans! Throw oof the yokes of LIBRAL HUMANISM! Were restoring God and Values back to government. Fret not the details of daily life. Trivyia noshuns like diplomacy and other european PANSINESS are beneeth us!
I'd have to try to spell this poorly. It's like he's in-game. Take a breath dude, think about what you're saying, and maybe have your parents read your paper before you turn it in.
"Trivyia noshuns"
Rr is more freakin hysterical than any comedy skit I've seen. You all know he's being sarcastic, right? He is genius.
@44: What ramrod/stinkfingers is doing here acting out his stereotypical vision of a conservative is typical.
@stink why don't you play the part of the illiterate, atheistic, communist, bi-sexual, feminist, on welfare, with a nasty crack habit, and 6 children born out of wedlock at the same time so we can watch (call her helga) and then we can all sit and watch you do the ramrod and helga skit.
<--- bemused.
Looks like I learnt to speek yer language after all fellers!!!
YEEHAW!!!!!!!!!!
Ramrod=stinkfingers acting out his opinion of a typical republican.
I'm a typical republican, My father was a teacher, my mother stayed at home and raised us. We were dirt poor. I'm a minority and lived in a predominantly white state while growing up, which was at times unpleasant. I was in the marine corps for 4 years and have 2 combat action ribbons. I was in the first persian gulf war. I used my GI bill and worked at UPS loading trucks from midnight until 6am to pay my way through college. I have 2 bachelors degrees and a masters. I own and operate my own small business. I'm married, my wife has 2 bachelors degrees. We have a small house, 1 child and a dog. I drive a subaru, the only car my family owns, it doesn't get used much because my office is close enough that I can ride my bike. I recycle. I mow my lawn with a manual push reel mower. I don't own any gas powered tools. I don't own any guns and will never touch one again. I don't have network or cable television in my house and haven't for 10 years, we rent movies we want to watch. We use the internet and books for keeping up on news and events. My wife and I homeschool our son. We attend church regularly and are christians.

I hear you brother.
Sadly, apparently either Stinky has gone underground ala Che' G, or he has ingested some bad sushi.
Kbc lol!
So what is it dash, that you have in common with ramrod? How come you both vote for the same politicians, and have the same opinions on foreign policy?
Becaus ramrod and you hav the same respikt for a precident wo gits it rong ever an over agin. Ramrod loves him because HE IS GODS EMISSARY HER ON ERATH! Ramrod loves him becaus he dosnt fall for any of EUOROPEAN PANSINESS like belief in diplomcy, reson, sience, homersexuraly but sees the wisdom of making amreica refleckt GODDS UNEARTHLY KINGDOM IN THE SKY.
What about you?
You know stink, its really impossible to talk with you, especially after the election. I don't know if you've noticed this or not, but you spend all your time berating Republicans and their views (well, a caricature and exaggerated version of them) instead of really making a case for your own views. What you've chosen to do now is the equivalent of a fundie just telling everyone they're going to hell all the time. Doesn't really build bridges and it doesn't really educate anyone. Dont you realize every time you call Bush a moron, youre calling me a moron? Perhaps thats your point, but its really not going to make me take you seriously and consider your views, especially when youre misrepresenting mine so badly.

An attack on the king's soldiers is an attack on the king, btw.
Or whatever.
THOU DOTH ATTACKETH THE KING?
That's about the lamest piece of logic I've ever heard. I think it went outa style when the brits gave up their redcoats. But maybe its how the new reds convinced themselves that dems are all immoral gay french-speaking clinton worshippers who get secretarial pleasure with their lunchtime sandwiches.
Uniters, not dividers?
I recognize that smell, and it's not coming from my cereal.

Nice job on that whole disenfranchisement thing, by the way.
@ Rabban
Counter the accusation, not the man. It's shtick.
Don't worry about Tally. We need more level-headed types to lead, like, say, Al Franken.
(Dingdingdingdingding!!!!!!)
JJ - you have correctly guessed this weeks "Political Keyword"!!!!!!
Yes ladies and gentlemen, "Al Franken" was this weeks political keyword. We chose Al Franken due to his notoriety of tackling a heckler at a Keyy/Edwards rally.
JJ, your prize is the stylish and quite snazzy "Che Stink" t-shirt pictured above. Let me know what size you want.
@Tally, r u talkin' to me? U talkin' ta me! :) If you are, I really don't know how what you said is a real response to what I said.
@JJ - I'm trying to be a little serious here. I don't want to waste my time trying to defend a ridiculous caricature of my positions. Maybe the newbs will bite, but I won't. Just rising to the bait somehow seems to give credence to his exaggerated presentation of conservative views.
Jeez, just as my ire wears off....Tally's kicks into to high! Rabban! Ramrod's dead! He found a better place to rant...landoverbaptist.com
Well, thanks Chief. In honor of you and the Stinker, I shall wear it with pride.
And I shall remember you by it as well.
Chia...er, Che...er, Ciao.

Runs with Scissors didn't run me off...i am still playing. But I am through, except for this clarification, with posting. Don't see any point in it. We speak different languages. I am a child of the enlightenment, and you fantasize about a return to the dark ages. We are miles apart. Whatever. Good luck...
Anyway, I'll post this, and because you lack imagination, despise nuance, and eschew higher learning as elitist, you may not understand the parallels...
"Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Hermann Goering, April 18, 1946, while awaiting the Nuremberg trials.
Do you get it? Do any bells go off...didn't think so.
When that self-righteous smirk wears off...all you will be left with is a reality that is harder and harder to recast. You wake up and find your job outsourced, the last acre of farm land turned into yet another walmart, the fact that the majority of the globe fear our unchecked power, the fact that corporations are no longer beholden to us at all, but that the opposite is now the case...the gap between the rich and the poor has become a chasm, and you and your family are teetering on the edge...in it falls public education, essential services, health care. You vote for those who shout god's name the loudest, who wave the flag the highest...and somewhere Goering's ghost pats Dick Cheney on the back...
What do you stand for? Values? Is that why you in the south left the democratic party when the democrats fought for and won civil rights for african-americans in the 1960s? Are these your values?
We speak different languages, which is why I am electing to not speak with you anymore. What's the use...
See you in the games
"History, I believe," Thomas Jefferson wrote, "furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes."
