You miss the point, nightmare, but I suspect you are not old enough to understand the satire involved.
This is sort of pg-16, so check out what's going on here only if you are mature enough to deal with it.

These kind of cheap laugh films belong to stay a series on TV.... Not make enough money to create a B roll film....
I understand the sarcastic humour perfectly.... It's just not original enough to make an impact.... It's not going to make me go wow! Cinema is about telling a story... This is purly profit based...
I guess your not educated enough in the film business, to understand the real concept of "worthy" material to enter the screen...
Its just a jumbled up mess of short sketches, thrown together to create a 84 mintue barrel of predictability...
Waste of 35mm reel if you ask me....
"I guess your not educated enough in the film business, to understand the real concept of "worthy" material to enter the screen..."
No you didn't.
If I have a degree in media theory, can I be your popcorn vendor?
And ending your sentences with ellipses...
You both have a point. Yeah, it's not art. It's not a *film*. But as satire and entertainment it earns a place in the multiplex. Surely more than Jackass 2 or Grudge 2 or... Etc.
I'm a writer and film guy too and I'm always totally up for seeing the latest Scorcese or Malick or Egoyan film. But you know what? I can't wait to see Borat...!
J
I'm an American consumer who plans on going to see this movie in the Cinema, and spending too much money on popcorn and Pepsi. I also plan to be thoroughly entertained, and will have no regrets that I hadn't spent my money on a more worthy movie.
Was anybody a fan of the Ali G show? Freakin hysterical. Borat was the best part of the show.

I dont hold a media degree, but I think that guy is an IDIOT
B
Sooo... Your saying your not really sure?
His persona is idiotic perhaps, but:
If a guy can put on a goofy accent, walk into a gun & ammo store and ask the clerk what's the best ammo to shoot jews with and get an answer? Well my friend, that is brilliant.
Lol Bolo!
I'd say: A glorified YouTube dude, who's spewing clichés.

lol that's the way I feel when I go see movies lol XD
BUT... Even though I suffer from movie-mania I'm NOT gonna see Borat.
I think you're much too into your film world, which I hear happens to Hollywood people. He does some incredibly revealing stuff about subterranean - and often unfortunate - cultural ticks of people (americans, in this case).
-
I'm bored with your rather snob critique of film (please refer to Jacques' post). The intent of my posts was to express the above. It is not my intent to defend hollywood cinema.
-
As an aside, look at what you have written. You lambast the film as a capitalist profit-seeking anti-art nose dive, then high-five the culture of cronyism in Hollywood, where I'm sure you're quite popular. Bah. I don't think being a child actor (or were you producing at 12, too) qualifies you as an expert on satire.
-
Jacques: the Departed, you catch it?

OUCH!! TALLY HO SPINNING HEEL KICK!!
My buddies saw Borat when it premiered at the Toronto Film Fest. Apparently, Sacha Cohen showed up as Borat on a white horse. A 1/2 hour into the film, the reel broke and Michael Moore, of all people, was up in the projectionist booth helping to get it going again.
The general consensus is that this film is a MASTERPIECE and that Cohen should receive an Academy Award. Apparently, in one scene, he has some guys balls smothering his face. Now, if that's not acting........................
@Tally
I did see The Departed. It was great. Scorcese near his best!
Hollywood... How stereotypical of you... Ive never even been there, let alone like it's cheesy, multi billion business...
Im not defending anything... Just stating my opinion... Like I was doing in the first place.... Then you had to have a dig... Thinking you "knew everything"...
A word of advice.... Don't ever go into film making.... I beg of you...
*forms ring and starts chanting fight*
I think you all are missing the point here: the idea.
Someone had to think of this, and put it into action. Whether YOU think it is art or not matter ABSOLUTELY nothing. Once someone creates somthing and starts to call it is somthing, it becomes that, nomatter what (as long as a previouse and opposite opinion has not already been made) anyone says. For ex.: I think rap is music. I do not like it, I do not think it is very good music, the artists think it is music, and thusly, I have no right to question that persons interpritaion of their own creation. I think you all are being very silly argueing about somthing you have no control over.
Oh, and Nightmare (switching from thoughtful tone to movie maker geek tone), I would like to see what you assume is class. To me, it is anything that can entertain and people can enjoy.
Now, on to my actualy opinion of Borat:
Don't really care much. Looks like a good sleepover movie. I would go see it in theaters if I had a bunch of friends to go with.
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.
I've seen it. It's a very vulgar, yet quite intelligent movie. It shows us what people in USA won't say in front of 'normal' americans.
I use multi-billion dollar military satellites to find tupperware hidden in the woods... What do YOU do?
Jacob... Hes an actor. "Borat" is a character, he's not like that in real life....
Its just the crude humour of the film I have a problem with... But hey lots of people like him so....
I forced myself to go see it a few days ago, as I couldnt dispute against it without seeing it. You could tell who were actors and who were real.... It was more cringe worthy than funny but I did find my self laughing at a few things.... On the whole, it was well shot, story was average but wasn't too bad to watch.
Class films would be E.T., Back to the Future, Jurassic Park etc... But there are thausands more....
^ ::cough::serenity::cough::
?

The movie was great.
One of my favorite skits he's done is when he's talking to religious leaders and asks what's up with the Jesus guy and all those reindeer.
And since when does a movie have to be serious in nature to be considered a film? Why was Clerk's then considered a breakthrough film by many in the industry.
My answer. Some people just like to talk out of their duff, in similarity to a wine connoisseur.
Hmm. Swish. Swish. Oaky. Fruity. Tart. Not overpowering.
Just shut up and drink it.
The same people that think Woody Allen and his bore fests are films.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.
Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

I've seen this film and was in histerics throughout! It's meant for my generation. Sure it was a terrible film, one of the worst films I've ever seen and I've seen a lot of them! The only thing I like about this 'film' (If you could call it that) was the comedy involved in it.

Unoriginal Nightmare?
I give the trailer an 8 out of 10. Not too bad.
Like any artform movies are a means of expression. Within expression anything is valid....whether one wants to express joy, sadness, satire or even idiocy. To deny ourselves an experience just because it doesnt fall within a more pleasent arena is just silly I think. I can be just as entertained by experiencing someone's idiocy as I can someone's triumph...if I allow myself. Were the 3 Stooges idiotic? Yes but they were also fun to watch.
The degree with which someone executes something is entirely up for critique. Personally, I feel the Jackass troop were sophmoric and generally boring once you got past the shock value of their material. Sacha Cohen has done things that are inexplicable. How is being able to convince dignitaries around the world to give more than a minute of their time in a televised segment to an guy who apparently is the biggest moron on earth in any way predictable? Lol. If you need a justification so that it becomes more palatable then he is at the very least revealing our social, moral, and ethical shortcomings to us. He holds the mirror up to our faces and we can choose to be disgusted or we can choose to laugh.
I choose to laugh. :)

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.
