Hey, I think a TT CD is a good idea, really.
With RealmWars (I did some stuff for that), people are using the source to make the game BETTER, not to drasticly change it. That's what I think the purpose of TT scripts should be. Anyway, we have alot of modding freaks on here, but I dunno, it could be a good thing (open-sourcing TT).
Size vs Quality vs Teasing
If a proper updater were possible then the size of the demo download is not necessarily effected. Give them a teaser in the demo download but when they buy the game they can download all the awesome updates including extra maps, tanks, mod packs, etc. Much as it is now but advertise or use the Moding capabilities as part of the sales pitch when downloading the demo.
Compile all the really good maps.. Say, the top 30, and the top mods.. Say, the top 5..
Sounds like they only want to add a few maps anyhow.

... Would anybody like to have the Modding Resource or rather care for it?
^ Why? You going somewheres?
Couple of notes:
Dynamic adjustment and 'configuration' of tanks is not going to happen. ThinkTanks is a game of skill.. If we make it so 'tweaking' becomes part of the game. It will become the game. I want this to be a game where if you are a good tanker, you demonstrate it by driving, not by your ability to tweak. I know some others might disagree with me in terms of this design decision.. And to this I will simply state.. You are wrong. No way I am going to be convinced this is a good idea. I worked on a game that had this feature and it made the game not so much fun.
On open sourcing the game..
We can fully open source it. It was made using the TGE, and to get the source for that, all you need to do is purchase it. The ThinkTanks specific source is different than TGE, and we would have to figure out some way to make that available, but one would have to be a TGE owner anyway..
Add to that, TGE is not simple to use, and the main coder on ThinkTanks (Clark) is a pretty sharp cookie. Even if we did open source it, I would not expect great changes to happen quickly.
Additionally, there is nothing stopping the people here from getting the TGE and making their own tank game. If you want to make a tank game. You can get the TGE and the tank content pack and start experimenting.
Maybe if you made the base code and released an update that had the base code updated with all TGE functions it'd be better.... There are MANY things TGE supports but that were removed from TT...
The TT source differs from TGE and adding things back from TGE would not make it better. There may be a few small esoteric things that might help, but adding all the shapebase functionality back in is not going to make TT better (only bigger, with less performance).
If there are particular TGE features you think would make TT better, let me know what they are and why they would be useful and I will add them to 'the list'
Also note that we already released a bunch of scripts (don't have the link handy).. And the ones we did not release would not do anyone much good anyway..
As has been stated here.. I don't want a bunch of emails.. I want the community to organize ideas. Maps, skins. Etc.. Put it all someplace that is easy to review. And after the process of collecting all the ideas and 'stuff' is done, send it to us to review. We don't have time right now, and probably will not in the near future to guide or give feedback..

It's like the Bot Competition...It's easy to make an invincible tank. It's not easy to take a vincible tank and be great with it.
Oh, and Nap, you are organizing the "wishlist," right? If so, than on mine is the script that links the musicTrack value with the actual sound.

The best games are the late night TS matches XD , but also the most frustrating (u know, the extra scrum glue, the epic damage tolerance, the rapid fire, etc). It's the TT catch-22, the best players tend to also be the best hackers. I'm no script wizard, so TT is a love / HATE relationship for this old steer. I bought the xBox version thinkin I had all you tweakers by the juevos, but y'all are too chicken to play outside the mods :P
^ Perhaps we should organize an Xbox Live macthup sometime. Me, Bomber and a few others around here have it for Xbox.
How' s this for an idea?
Pay $20 for the registration code and download link, OR pay $25 for reg code and CD and have the CD containing TT for your choice of OS and the latest Xpack and mod pack sent to your house.

Fair question- since Bravetree was bought out by GG, haven't the ThinkTanks team been kept busy with games for Xbox?
I was looking for an update to fix the sound problem with Tiger, but nothing seems to be coming. It's been a while now. (Napalm reported the bug on April 29 in these forums) I hope we haven't been forgotten.
We have not forgotten about TT, we are at the moment distracted by other things (work mostly). We are still amazed that there is so much activity here and that after all this time.

I'm wiliing to take that at face value for now, but hope to see evidence (like a minor upgrade) that we're still important. TT is a great game, and still is well worth the $20.
