Hey guys ,

Well my parents have decided to get a new computer. What is the best computer you can buy that is $1600.00 or less ? And please don't say mac please tell me a system that is made for windows !

It depends, because I can give you a parts list to build your own, OR I could give you a suggestion for a pre-built one. The stats on the custom made one would be better, but it would be more expensive then the pre-built one.

I would DEFINITLY like to know the pre-built computers !

Gateway has a better chipset than Dell
I work as a computer repair guy and find that
of the big commercial brands HP, Compaq, Gateway and Dell
that that Gateways setup is sleeker. Without all the extra utilities
that bog down your machine
I seen em all
Too bad your not local
I could build you one for half price
My 2 cents

For 23.99, you can buy yourself a paper shredder that "goes both ways," thus buying yourself hours of entertainment shredding the rest of the money you didn't waste on a pc.

LOL we already have a paper shredder...................

@Mr. E,
I need you to answer some questions first,

1. What is your family going to be doing with the pc?

I'll ask another after you answer this one.

Lol, I know what you mean. I particuarly dont like HP's setup, too many useless things running in the backround. Oh yeah, and eMachines are good too.

I am studying A+ certification right now, I am 11 and with all my current knowlage, I am interested in being a PC repairman some day.

I failed to mention that I recommend asking for loot in one dollar bills.

Well, it's a waste of money to buy a pc. I'm terribly sorry to admit that. Please get a mac. Or you could get a Mac with Virtual PC and run Windows on your Mac. PLEASE don't give into the temptations to buy a PC. :S

I always chose windows,why?

Well,80% of the things I download are windows only. Mac is good,Mac gets crap. Windows is so-so,and I have access to download lots of stuff.

I used to build pc's for a living....

There is NO good prebuilt commercial system that has ALL good parts, no crap software, and has the balls you want unless it costs a ridiculous amount of money (like a mac does)

My suggstion is to goto a pc part supplier and get the same of someone who will build you a pc and put what you want in it. Figure the cost first and then do it..

I just built one today for my boss's daughter. At about 600 bucks it has a 2.2 gig proc, 512 ddr, 400 bus, semi good video card by nvidia 128mb, ok onboard sound....and onboard nic, modem, usb2, etc....and a dvd burner, floppy, pimp case and antec power supply, 120gig hdd....(all drivers come with it and some nifty applications) no other software was bought of course...hehe

1600 could get you a BITCHIN system...3+ gig proc, 1gig+ ram, etc

@ Chilled
We have had a PC for 6 years and we never had one problem......................
Anyway this is way off topic but Itune is a rip off since $.99 is a lot per song.

Sounds like my machine.

I got for about 1000 bucks an Athlon XP 2600+ (2.1 gig,) 1gig ddr ram, 333 bus, good graphics card by nVidia 256mb (FX 5600 XT,) good sound card by creative, and also onboard nic, modem, ect. Firewire card, 4 usb ports, ect. And dvd burner, floppy, cool case and stock 400w power supply, 200gb hard drive.

I can't forget the pc's underglow case feet, 3 near-silent LED lighted fans, and slim hard drive and floppy cables. Oh, and the bitchin surround sound audio system.

@Mr. Newb,
99 cents is a sweet deal, it's better then paying for an illegal program or downloading music for free!
Another reason why I hate pcs: Almost all of them are ugly. Plu you have that huge ugly tower underneath or on top of your desk! Oh boy, I have alot of other reasons. One of them is that Windows XP is kinda like Mac OS 6... Oh well...
@Leg,
Yes, there's a ton of software for Windows, but when you have a PC, you only hear about the software that is for Windows. If you have a Mac, you hear about all the thousands of apps for Mac! And that's all you need! Look here:
Apple's Mac Software Download Page, with software from Apple, Aspyr, BraveTree, Microsoft, and a WHOLE lot more...

On iTunes Music Store, you can buy songs for.99 each or you can buy most albums for $10.00. Even in iTunes Music Store you get the best deal by buying the album.... But still, most people buy a song at a time since you can buy only those songs you like, vs having to buy an entire album for the one or two songs that you want.

Perhaps you should read this Mista;

http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/36120.html

"At the low end, therefore, the PC desktops are marginally less expensive than the Macs -- if you can do without their connectivity and multimedia capabilities -- and considerably more expensive if you can't. At the very high end, however, all of the design focus is on multimedia processing and the PCs simply aren't competitive from either hardware or cost perspectives."

BTW, the new generation entry model 17-inch iMac G5 is $1,299. That should leave you enough for an iPod.

^ Have a few different catagories of computers, but you pay for the name on some of them. ;)

I personally think that AlienWare PCs are way overpriced, yes, they are good, but super pricey.
