If you are hosting any mods that have new objects or new terrains, please make sure they are a team game . Any mod that requires a long download should not be a server which demo players can join (non-team servers).

Since a new demo player isn't going to know that they are supposed to wait for 8 minutes while objects download, they are very likely to think it crashed and leave with a negative impression of ThinkTanks. :S

As we all know, we want demos to have a great first experience playing TT so they are more likely to buy it. If they buy it, more money for BraveTree, and more money for BraveTree means the sooner we will see this:

;)

So please, if you have a big download, only host team games. Thanks. :)

Paco beating 56k?

Just kidding. Nice screenie!!! Mine are usually teams anyway because they're just too big for indie.

That's a really cool tank mod! When will it be up?

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 10:40:57 AM

Nice tank, does it have a name?

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 12:12:22 PM

Right now, the tank is being called 'the skull tank' and is the first of 3 new tanks we are planning to have in the game. I will post some concept art later today.

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 12:19:41 PM

That's a cool looking little tank. Looks like it will be fun to skin too.

I just hope there's a new heavy in the works as well.

And...are the three new tanks a plug-in for the current version or part of TT2?

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 6:09:52 PM

Make the heavy tougher in some way, maybe just can the beachball effect.

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 6:28:57 PM

In fact change the tanks around a lot so I have to relearn driving and shooting

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 6:29:40 PM

Dash, you've hit on something there. If the heavy actually acted like it weighed 30 tons I'd be happy. XD

It is good that everyone is liking the direction of 'things to come', but the point of this thread is being lost. The terrain Mods, while being fun, are hurting sales and will up support costs. This is not good for us. We are okay with modding.. If you do mod, we ask that you pretty please put MOD in front of the server name, and make it a team game so that demos are not joining. We feel that it is a small thing that all modders can do to make our lives easier, and allow us to focus on work.

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 8:06:07 PM

Or make it spooky or frantic, demos cant join those.

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 9:58:51 PM

The Ones From real1 arcade are allowed all 3. So That is a problem for us, in this kind of situation.

As joe said, MOD in the name.

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 11:45:53 PM

A demo joined my new terrain server last night, and I quote his exact words: "Wow, I can't wait to get the full version, I want to make and host my own mods!"

Is that hurting sales? ;)

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 3:20:09 AM

56 that tank skin is mazing the guns can I have it plz?
Kris

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 7:07:55 AM

It's for TT2, Kris...
...and it looks like an Anti-Aircraft gunner. Or it would be cool if it shot harpoons/grappling hooks.

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 10:23:17 AM

Another idea for TT2: Make a homing missle power up.
Yet another: If we're gonna have an ani aircraft gunner, how about we make a special tank(airplane, Fighter jet) that can fly!

This is the exception, not the rule. For every one person excited by the modding, there are probably ten who go to join a server, see the dialog.. Wait.. Think the game has crashed, quit, and leave, thinking bad things of thinktanks and of bravetree. This is not a demand.. Just a request.. Please help us by placing MOD in front of the name and by hosting it as a team game. Trust us when we say that hosting them as non team and not putting MOD in fornt of the name is hurting us, not helping us.

Again, we did not see a huge spike in sales with the onset of modding (if anything there was a slight drop). We have seen increased support requests. Modding is not helping us a great deal, but it is costing us. We want to support the modding community, all we ask is that you help us so that we are more inclined to help you. We don't want things to get so bad that the next update turns MODs off.

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 2:05:14 PM

Hey joe is that new terrain?? Also is TT_2 going to be a update or an entire new version we have to purchase either way im happy!

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 2:21:26 PM

Alfonso Soriano is up to bat.(as the pitcher winds up to throw the ball, a guy in the crowd yells:"SORIANO!!!!!") He tips the ball, And the catcher gets it!

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 2:48:23 PM

Ach mein Gott! Bitte erzählen Sie mir, daß ein Flammenwerfer ist! The WWI-esque German cross, the apparent very short range of the targeting reticles and non-rotating dual-tube turret - propellant and ignition, perhaps?!?
How do you say "woot!" in German? :)

Woot =Guten Tag!

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 2:50:35 PM

That new terrain looks like the low edge of Nate's Valley...... I'm obsessed I guess. ;)

And Joe, I know that's the exception, I'm hosting team games from now on, and I have MOD in the server name. :)

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 7:22:52 PM

In TT2 I'm having that tanks its gun is sweet!
Kris

Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 5:49:12 AM

Isn't Guten Tag, "Good Day"?

Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 10:49:59 AM

No offense, but isn't that tank just a longer light tank with a bigger turret? :S

Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 6:21:03 PM

*everyone shoves Nathan into a corner*

Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 7:18:10 PM

Hey, new objects aren't special to a 3d modeller lol, and I observe things like that.

I wanna see some bombers, or urban assult vechicles. ;)

Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 7:55:06 PM

@ Rabban
Yes. I know Guten tag means good day. But in the german games I've played people always say something similar to that when something good happens.

The skull tank looks very cool, except that the turret looks too flat.. But maybe that's just me.

As to the modding, to not scare off the demos, would it be possible to make it so that demos can only get into strictly orthodox games? Like either incorporate a tag into the full version making all MODs marked as full-version-only, or incorporate a block into the demo version making MODs impossible to enter, or even both?

I think modding is a cool part of the game.. If you could protect the sensitive prospective buyers, but still attract the demos who like mods, then everybody wins, right?

:o

Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 5:56:25 PM

The skull tank's turret almost looks double barrel... But the two barrels are aligned vertically. ;)

Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 6:29:24 PM

Wow awsome tank

Monday, August 02, 2004 at 11:21:28 PM

Very nice. Btw can we have a boss tank for like 700K points in solo?

Just my 2 cents

Monday, August 02, 2004 at 11:30:55 PM

Hmm r u saying that there is gonna be a TT2 and if so r the orginal tanks still gonna be playable so that all the skins that r already out there dont get pushed aside completely when and if it comes out

MOD COMMENT
Can I get a ufo? A BIG one? Wasn't the topic...?.. :)

Yes, but not without a new version that is not backwards compatible, and it does not take care of the all the versions that are out there. Doing this would mean a deployment of builds on several distribution channels, having everyone upgrade, changing over the servers (over time while people upgrade), etc, etc...

It is doable, it is on the to do list, but it is not simple and not something that is quick and easy. We are working on a more comprehensive solution for all of these problems that should also aid in more frequent updates. Patience, and please try to help us so we can get to this faster. Help by making sure MOD games are identified as such, and that you are doing what you can to convince Demos to purchase the game.

I will post some concept art later today.

Where?
