Yay! Sis just got handa civic. Gets 34 miles to the gallon! Still... Costs $40 dollars to fill up the ol jeep though... :(

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 11:27:42 AM

I used to live in california like 3 months ago! Lol! The gas price out there is outrageous!!!!!! Its crazy its tooooooo expensive!

Saturday, August 27, 2005 at 12:05:33 PM

I have a Mercedes Kompressor (it's diesel) runs like a beauty and is also cheap as hell to run. You get what you pay for, get a cheap car you'll pay in the end, expensive one you save in the long run. (excluding the Nissan Micra, cheap as hell but can run on nearly nothing!)

Sunday, August 28, 2005 at 5:34:57 AM

We pay about $1-30 AUD a liter here in australia (its a bit cheaper in the major cities)

I calculated that is about $3.90 US per gallon....I think thats right.
How does this compare to what it is costing in the USA?

Monday, August 29, 2005 at 5:17:57 PM

Around 3.00$ thats high for the USA. Usually between 290-310$

Monday, August 29, 2005 at 5:23:17 PM

A little more inland in Cali we pay 'bout $2.80 I think. Went up 6 cents today.....I don't drive yet, phew!

Monday, August 29, 2005 at 9:36:47 PM

3.00 is cheap.... Stop complaining.... XD

Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 3:43:17 AM

^ That's what most of the world says to us. But complaining about gas prices is a national pastime over here.

@Twanger: Heh, diesel prices are going to jump up next year due to some new regulations.

I live near 3 oil refineries in Washington, and gas here is more expensive than anywhere else in the state. Go figure.

Anyway, last time I bought gas, it was about $2.76, but now it's over 2.80. I'm glad my Saturn gets 40 MPG routinely.

Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 7:50:56 AM

I hear yah. Gas prices are a killer. I just bought this Rocket Powered Bat Suit from ACME for $29.95 and now I can't afford the fuel. The employees over at ACME are taking a huge hit. Many layoffs have taken place and ACME's stock has dropped 10 points.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 8:03:58 AM

It's probaly because of the engineering department. Those are some nice sticks on that contraption.

Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 8:07:51 AM

I thought the ACME layoffs were due to rising insurance costs caused by several pending class action lawsuits. It seems the consumer products safety commission (cpsc ) is hot to bring those guys down. Apparently kids today are too wussy to handle an anvil dropping on their heads. Sheesh, it's just an anvil. Man, when we were kids we were dropping grand pianos on people and nobody raised an eyebrow. That's a full sized grand piano mind you, not one of those sissy little baby grands.

Of course now days it costs so much in gas just to get a piano shipped to you, it's almost not worth dropping them on people anymore.

^ Dropping grand pianos on people! Ahh the warm fuzzy memories. If you were lucky, the person you dropped it on would end up with piano keys for teeth. That would always crack me up. XD

These days it's all about the lawsuits. :(

Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 8:45:58 AM

Hmm. Trying to think if I remember the piano drops.

Yup yup, I got it, I got it all right. Er... What have I got

My momma done told me, bring home something for dinner.

Except, where I went to college, it never snowed... Hmmm

Ethanol use in gas is a mandatory 10% here in the Bluegrass state.

Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 5:42:35 AM

Eh....atleast I don't drive yet o.o' but in 4 years I will, hopefully the gas prices will be lower then...

^ don't count on it... When I started driving, it was about 45 cents a gallon, and people freaked when it hit 50.

Biodiesel is looking attractive. It works fine, and hasn't been price effective up till now. Time to get alternatives to gasoline.

If we all start asking MickeyD's for their fry oil, they'll start selling it. Now it is seen as a pain is the butt to get rid of. Restaurants have a big issue with disposing that stuff. Once it becomes useful to enough people, someone will start buying it off them and selling it. (Would you like some fries with your fry oil?)

Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 7:22:05 AM

^ If you factor in inflation, 45 cents a gallon wasn't that much better than it is today. How much did folks make per hour then verses how much you make now. How much time working is required to buy a gallon of gas?

Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 11:06:32 AM

Wow, gas hit $3.39 per gallon today. It was $2.79 yesterday.

4/1/1929 to 11/17/2006 Rest in Peace Bo. GO BLUE!!!

Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 11:18:58 AM

WOW $3.39! That is crazy!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 2:47:51 PM

In a matter of hours, gas jumped from $2.59 here to $2.99 and is expected to increase by at least $0.50 overnight. 2-3 gas stations where I live are actually out of gas, while other places have long lines (of course, not as long as say, the gas crisis in the 70s or whenever that occurred).

Meh, guess I'll be carpooling some more to school.

Lag Man,

Excellent point. Actually, I started driving around 1976, and I was looking for prices adjusted for inflation. It's not as bad as it was in the '80s when that's factored in. (It sounds bad, though) Gas was NOT very affordable back then.

We may hate hearing $3.00 per gallon or more, but it's not horrible. We may not be able to keep saying this, though...

My brother in law lives in Atlanta, and he won't make it up here for labor day because they are supposedly running out of gas even in parts of Georgia now! I live in Independence Kentucky and the local gas station was out of regular and plus!! (regular was 3.09/gal) :[

I happened to be in Ohio today and found gas for 2.79 and waited over half an hour due to the "cheap" price lol. The only reason the price didnt go up was because the guy working inside was by himself with no help so he couldnt change the price. :'( :'(

Can anyone point me towards an electric kit for my tank ????
Fuel here in New Zealand is over $1.50 per litre that's about 4 times the US costs !
I was told it could be $2.60 next year !
KInda pleased I traded my 3 litre Porsche for a 1.8 litre BMW.
Funny thing is I got at least 120 K from $20 in the P car - now I get 100 k in the Bemma due to the cost increase !
Maybe a horse could be good - 4 wheel drive standard too Oh wait I fear the horses blow off valve and exhaust system wont pass emissions... Darn !
And why are all horses regardless of size all have 1 horsepower ?????
:P

My mother was in Georgia visting with friends when they got word that prices were going up and they had better fill up. Gas stations were closing because they sold out of gas. My mother found one still open but had to get premium because it was all that was left at that station.

I filled up on my way to work this morning for $3.33/gal (premium). It was $3.40/gal when I passed by on the way home (I'm in Indiana). They say the Midwest gets a lot of it's crude oil via the Gulf so we can expect high prices for quite a while.

At least some people are keeping a sense of humor about it : http://toccionline.kizash.com/films/1001/178/index.php

Heck, what y'all complainin about. Fuel cell cars r comin, get 1 of those and ur problems solved. :P

Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 6:50:11 AM

May be a commin' but they're NOT HERE because the auto industry has been very slow (glacial) in terms of getting alternative fuel vehicles to market and we all drive gas cars (so that's why we are all complainin.) Me hope to see Tina Turner soon with her gassy pigs. :)

Me love you all!

My dad's working on hydrogen fuel cell research, he has been since 2000.

Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 7:39:20 AM

Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 6:47:45 PM

^^ The auto industry has perfected hydrogen fuel cell engines but I hear there trying to compress the hydrogen because in a normal size fuel tank, enough hydrogen cannot be fitted to give the car a practical range. Thnx to ur dad for helping save the environment. %)

Saturday, September 03, 2005 at 9:27:38 PM

Fuel cells will be a way off yet I reckon. However significant development has been made into hydrogen combustion engines - which produce basically zero emissions apart from H2O. Problem is hydrogen is four times as explosive as petrol so you want to have a pretty robust fuel tank. Also transportation of hydrogen to petrol stations would also be pretty hazardous.

Check out this link regarding the supercharged hydrogen motor that ford has developed.
http://www.ford.com/en/innovation/engineFuelTechnology/hydrogenInternalCombustion.htm

But it would still require electicity for the electrolysis of water to produce the hydrogen in the first place. But it would be heaps better for the environment than burning fossil fuels.

But alas - too many politicians etc are in the pockets of major fuel providing companies for this to ever happen until the world is completely rooted from greenhouse effects etc.

My tank now runs hydrogen. So keep back if you BM me in the back. XD

I heard on the news yesterday that gas prices have hit an all time high- even when adjusted for inflation. How lucky are we? We beat the record from the early 80s
