Does anyone else think of the maps as having compass directions? I always think of the maps as though they are spread out on a table and the top of the map is North. The following screenies are all taken facing what I think of as North.

Cranium Crater

Freudian Flats

Hypothalamus Hills

Medulla Mesa

The way I play and see the maps you are facing south west on each map.

Interesting point! A compass could help in designing strategies and in-game chat, etc.
I agree with 2 of your compassing, but IMOHO I feel both your Freudian Flat and Cranium Crater are pointing Westward.
I'd be curious to read other players' points of view. :)

^^ GQ I did not know you live in Australia! XD

Imo you are facing northwest to some degree on each map.

I suppose I see it how the part of the map with the biggest hill/hills is North. I guess that comes from living in California....higher elevation in the North and lower in the south. Interesting.

@Hugobrainz
No I live in Texas
LOL My comp faces north.

@prey
Cranium Crater, right that's the north
Freudian Flats, wrong it's the east
Hypothalamus Hills, right it's the north
Medulla Mesa, right it's the north

The north of freudian flats is this

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

Here's one to think about I'll use myself as an example

Most days the evening breeze comes from the northwest so if I were to face what way I thought was North the the smoke from the other tanks would be hit me in the left side of the face.

So how many of u were use the wind and didn't know it to find North in the different mods

This is how it always looks to me when playing on US servers.

Surely there is a patch or mod to get the image up the right way for us people "Down Under" XD

Nice one Squidy, I always thought your brain was in your bottom....

It's good to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks of the maps as having N, S, E & W, even though we don't all agree on specific directions. Interesting point about the smoke Fixit.

When a modder creates a map, do they see their work as though looking down on it, as with a real map on a table?

Another fact that I have pondered is this...

Given the average length of the human brain is 167mm
I estimate the size of a TT light tank to be around 0.8 meters long and about 0.7 meters high.

About the size of a small sheep !

Would be hilarious to see a TT tank in real life, if it shot you it would just give you a nice bruise !!

%)

And PEST go and finish your bathroom... And stop wasting time pondering issues such as this. XD

About the size of a small sheep eh? Perhaps someone could make a skin to make the tanks look like sheep, but not make them look too attractive though, eh Squid?

^ You know, we should do that...Hugo's personal skin. LOL

@PEST - I am not from New Zealand mate ! OK. %)
Stop drinking warm beer. Its just plain wrong !

I have nothing to add, I just wanted to bump my thread back to the top because I didn't think it had many replies, and I'm very sad......

You can look the north, east, south and west from the sky. All skies are made the same way... (1st file in dml is south, 2nd is west, 3rd is north, 4th is east and there is also up, down and reflection...)

Personally, I don't use the compass directions when I'm talking to someone, because there is no guarantee that the other sees them sameway as I. I rather use words like left, right, toward, upward, backward, up, back, etc as they cause less confusion and they are easier to understand.

IT would be very cool to have the map on the radar, with all elevation. Trees and Rocks as little dark grey dots. The radar would be pretty big but not bigger then the 2X or 3X radar.

What do you guys think?

Cant go bigger than the 3x. Its not possible. Worked it out when trying to make a 5x radar for us big screen users.

LGM

^^ wouldn't that take some of the fun out of the game? That unknown factor is part of what makes the game. I wouldn't want rocks and trees showing up. You might as well generate a topographic map for each terrain and make the tanks be dots on the map...

I wouldn't see it as an improvement, just more stuff.

And, I also have a NSEW model in my head. Of course, it doesn't match up with Nuts. On Cranium Crater, I see North as the direction you go when you hit the arrow/jump pad combo that takes you into the crater. In Hypothalamus Hills, for some reason N takes you perpedicular to the arrows that shoot across the map between the big hill and the smaller hills to the south...

Hard to agree on this, isn't it? Maybe a little compass rose added to the radar? It would have to rotate with your tank, though.

It would be a nice easthetic additon.

I rarely think of directions in NSEW. For example, when giving driving directions, people often say to turn NSEW on a particular street. I for one do not memorize what direction I am going...giving me directions in NSEW simply adds another layer of reference to interpret the message correctly and then act upon it. First, I have to remember which way is N(or SEW), and then reference my turn in terms of that.

It seems intuitively easier to say "right" or "left"...when traveling, my face is always forward (unless I'm not the "pilot"), so there can be no confusion as to what message was sent. No hassle in determining if NSEW = left or right.

Same holds true for this game...there is no NSEW...only "by the tree" or "jump pad" or "over there."

It goes up and down too...

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

Now that's crazy! How can someone ask somebody to remember where is north(or any other)? Hey you need freaking compass for that and I for sure don't a have compass in my pocket.
