I heard that you are a good moder (Naplam)
so I want to ask how do I change the gravity of the default projectile?

Friday, July 29, 2005 at 10:59:10 AM

You know what I hate about these forums? We all ask the same questions OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!!! Read the stupid datablock!! The data is all in there. And another thing? You specificly ask modders whose names you've heard, and I am completely sick of seeing "Art Crazy, HELP!!" and I resist clicking on them. There are more people than napalm that know about modding, just explain your problem in the title, not call out to a modder, since I'm sure they would get tired of seeing their name in 50% of the forum topics on the page, I know I would.

The awnser is in the datablock, its either gravity or mass. Just look around, hex edit if you have to, we did.

^ Aye, the Hex editor is your friend. :)

Where is the data block?

You wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes when modding was a dark art :'( Just look around the forums for awnsers to questions before you ask them! But you can't find it, we could ask - or maybe *gasp* the modding resource!!

Sorry for loads of sarcasam, but having forums and information is a godesend which I didn't exactly have when I wrote... Everything I did.

I cant find it

LOL 95% of the modders we have now wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes when modding was a dark art. They have no idea how good they have it. I wish the Modding Resource was around 2 1/2 years ago.

ROFL thats funny.... Yeah what you're doing was hell when modding was "founded" by a group of obsessive thinktankers. We figured out everything without even a forum where there was more than 1 person who knew anything. Bleh...

Hmm, Maybe if we implemented the search button from "THE NEW MODDING RESOURCE" into the forums or main page !

God can you guys give the poor guy the answer already and break the sarcasm?

Here:

1. Go here http://www.freewebs.com/ttdjwings/ttscthinktankssource.htm Download special.cs and put it at game/server/scripts.
2. Open special.cs
3. Go to the parts where it says projectiles and such. E.g.

Datablock ProjectileData(BounceProjectile)
{
velocity = 35.0; // meters per second
inheritVelocity = 0.93; // how much of shooters velocity to inherit
numBounce = 8; // usually 0
bounceFactor = 0.5;
splashArea = 2.0; // usually 0
count = 45; // how many shots per clip?
saveOldCartridge = true; // chuck old cartridge or keep it around
canSave = false; // can this cartridge be saved if another comes along?
reloadTime = 150; // in milliseconds
burstDelay = 1000; // milliseconds until next burst if button held down
burstCount = 4; // number of projectiles to fire per burst
synchTime = 1000; // synch over this many milliseconds
synchBefore = 500; // synch if not older than this in milliseconds
damage = 1; // usually 1
gravityScale = 1.7; //<-------- HERE IS THE GRAVITY
sizeScale = 0.6; // scale of projectile (meters for bitmaps)
resource = "~/data/shapes/tanks/bounceprojectile.png"; // shape or bitmap
tankExplosion = "BounceTankExplosion"; // datablock for explosion
ownTankExplosion = "BounceOwnTankExplosion"; // datablock for explosion
bounceExplosion = "BounceBump"; // datablock for explosion
otherExplosion = "BounceExplosion"; // datablock for explosion
reticle = "BounceReticle";
};

4. Set the gravity to your liking.
5. Save it and your done.

It's not sarcasm, it's the truth. All we are asking is that they take the time to find the answer before posting. But as long as they have people that do all the work for them and give them the answers they will never look for their selves. If they're to lazy to do a little research, they're to lazy to make a good mod.

You deserve a round of applause.

Modding takes time, patiance, and BRAINS. You will NEVER make a good mod if you don't think about it at all. Do your research and stop spamming the forums.

If any of you wanna know what modding was like, just TRY to find it on the old GG forums. You'll see that nobody helped anybody, no resources, this wasn't even knowlage to the small ammount of modders that was there. Nobody dared post questions like this because they knew the forum thread would sink to the bottom of the list and never seen again. You have information on the internet. You have internet access. Use it.

Nice work comp thx

I think you have it backwards. I think they should ask first, and read second. First of all, there are other advantages to posting questions.

A. It introduces them to other in the community.
b. It may also send them to others websites.
c. It allows us to get to know them.
d. It also allows us to know their skill level.

If you give them some help, and help them succeed, they may just want to really get into this. Not everyone wants to be a scripter, or programmer, just to make some neat games.

Stop patting yourselves on the back and answer the damn question. You spewed more crap and energy bitching the guy out, than you would have spent just pointing him to the answer.

This is the kind of negativity that's turning people away from the game and will detour beginners from looking deeper.

If I was responded to this way as a beginner I would have said "what a bunch of assholes" and left without coming back.

So really what you’re saying is that you resent the fact that you had to figure out things for yourselves.
So if you suffered, so should the new-comers.
Just don't reply, it shows lack-of-character posting negatively, rather than just not posting.

Get over yourselves. It's a game, not a business.

And the Napalm Bomb puts out all the fires....KABOOM!

How does Tank Master™ even know about changing the gravity?
How did he even get to the idea that the gravity could be changed without knowing about "adding to the mission file" or "modding the special.cs"?
How does he know to call it "default projectile" if he has not looked at the datablock?
How is it that noobs are not being sent to the Modding Resource .
