I know I can shoot much better when I have a low ping..wish all servers were like dash-bash..i get a 20ms ping!!

The Flea have a new ISP?

OK, this could be a longer story but I'll just hit on the highlights.

In summer of 03 I am literally first on the block to get new high-speed cable Internet. Two techs come to the house to see how well it works and because they want to see this thing called a Macintosh and Airport. TT life is good with low ping. I get killed a lot, try several names for fit, and finally settle on beloved Fleabiscuit :-)

Back in November 03 I notice my ping times getting longer and longer, especially during prime time. In December it really starts becoming unbearable.

In January I start calling my isp (Charter Communications) tech center to complain. I get right through, "Oh yes Mr. Fleabiscuit. Your ping times (400ms - 1000ms) are much to long and we recognize that there is a problem with our system. We'll get it fixed."

I wait for it to get fixed. And wait. And wait....

So by March I'm calling tech central at least weekly and emailing them often also. Now I get 15-20 minute waits on the phone. Sometimes a tech person answers and then cuts me off. I visit my local cable office in person a few times. I'm sure they are about to issue a restraining order.

I finally email them again stating that I wish to file a formal complaint to a regulatory agency and ask who I should contact. They write back that since cable is "not a necessary service there is no regulatory agency for me to contact." Bite us (my emphasis). I try a few other routes to no avail.

Then in the middle of April I try the web site of my congressional rep Peter DeFazsio and post there. I don't hear anything for a few weeks and figure that too is a dead end.

Then this last Wednesday I get a letter from "Congress of the United States." I figure it is a campaign pitch. But no, the letter says;

"Dear Mr. Johnson:

Thank you for your message about you internet service provider.

I contacted Consumer Information Coordinator Jan Margosian of the Oregon Department of Justice and Charter Communications on your behalf and asked them to give your concerns their personal attention. I am sure you will hear from Ms. Margosian and Charter Communications soon..."

(An address and phone number is provided to reach them both.)

Member of Congress"

Well guess what? A miracle happens and all of a sudden my bad lag is gone. What a coincidence. I also know who I'm voting for again.

I'm still a grumpy Flea toward Charter. My apologies to those I was fragging yesterday (quote; "flea is doling it out."). I am still working out some angst.

But ass shooters should know I'm much more likely to turn around now...
