Easter is also about celebrating the return of the sun and of spring, following the spring equinox. The 'resurrection' per se of the land, and of us all, after a cruel winter... :)
Why is Easter less of a deal than Christmas?
^ some of us wish we knew.
I know. Far fewer presents (although those Cadbury Eggs have a way of evening the playing field).
@ Cat
duh he got it from the bible
@Rabban
nice man you beat me to it ;)
tkx for the message ;)
Actually Good Friday would be the holiest day in the Christian Calendar.. The day all sins were forgiven by the blood of Jesus.. Its just less commercial than Christmas which is the birth of Jesus
"Its just less commercial than Christmas which is the birth of Jesus"
This is what I'm asking. Why?
When Jesus was born, the wise men brought him gifts. This is how the tradition of gift giving began at Christmas time. Over the years, commercialism kicked into high gear and it became less about the birth and more about the gifts. For christians, Easter is more important than Christmas.
It doesn't make sense to me either.

Happy Easter @44 (although those Cadbury Eggs have a way of evening the playing field).Where do you live 44?
I live in Dunedin New Zealand... Cadbury make Easter eggs here !!!
@Sherminator
Don't forget the pagans and their gift giving during the winter solstice.
But yes, it is a bit odd that in a country with a Christian majority, Christmas is celebrated moreso than Easter.

The Resurrection
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise. And they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.

I didn't want to let this holiday season slip by without giving it a little attention. ;)
