Modders- what great folks. Without them, I would have gotten bored with TT a while back. I really appreciate the time and effort it takes to do those creative works.
I've messed around with ModWiz, but that's nothing. The work that's been done with TGE and scripting has really made some cool stuff. I recently went into Repent's mod for the first time, and I was really impressed with the level of detail and planning he did. (Isn' t that one of the early mods?)
Then you see what has been done with the expansion pack and mod pack- wow. I'd try to name all the folks, but won't because I know I'll leave someone out. We have access to literally hundreds of terrains.
I'd have to agree with KC's ad above. It's really not at all difficult to install the packs, and really worth it.
How about this?
What would you say if I was able to provide a Mac, Win, and Linux versions of TT with the Expansion_Pack and Mod_Packpre-installed? (Unlicensed of course)
Of course this would be without an ignition key, you would have to transfer that one file from your current game to the pre-configed TT instance.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, my version is from Garage Games, I'm not exactly sure how that would work with versions of Real Arcade and Shockwave.
Sounds like it could be fairly easily done. All that would need tweaking would be skins and maybe some main.cs stuff like radar.
Please post opinions~~~
Also 56K, is that somehting that GG would frown upon or have no issues with?
Well, I had suggested in another thread(Roo's "Wow- 235 maps thread) that it might be a good idea to implement a new approach to this. I'm talking about a "new tutorial" which would be more inviting to the not so computer literate folks out there. It would use "newbie" friendly language, but all the while teaching the "real" language, so that the "student" becomes well versed in it himself. Also, coupled w/that could be the ivitation to "ask" for help from specific people who really know their stuff, depending on the topic, and the extent the student wishes to go. There are some really great teachers out there, like Nap, Roo, and Lone and CUC who come to mind immediately. If I already know about this stuff, Then it's no problem to follow the steps given in the existing tutorials. However, for people who know nothing or next to it, will need the added help. Let's not forget, TT is a whole lot different today than I think was originally intended. The game just got better, but now some folks(like me) don't want to get left out/behind. I'm sure there are those who want everything done for them. Well, then they can just have plain TT. But, there are those who thirst for more, but need help learning to "walk". I really think it would be worth a try anyway. I'm also sure that some who learn, will be willing to "pass it on". I for one do enjoy that aspect myself, in limited ways, and I hope to learn and share more knowlege as time goes on. Ok enouph of my 2%. :)
Thanks,
KC

I've thought about doing that and have also wondered if it would be sanctioned by GG. I don't see why not as long as it's made absolutely clear that a registered version of TT is required.
Copying just one file to another location would be much easier than the current process. I'd be glad to help host the files. We could even have different versions that would have various extras installed such as radar, antidiver, team chat hot keys, etc.

We'll I agree with what KC is saying but I think this would be a bit easier for most folks. Those who quest for deeper knowledge can, and will look into it further. I think this would just help out those who have limited skills, or those who just enter the game. Let's see what comes back about this from GG and then we'll see what we can do.
BTW: I of course would include the 200 some-odd mods up to the point of creating these packages.
I would also consider making a TGE version while were at it seeing it's a demo anyway.

@Nap,

I like that idea. I actually thought of asking you about that. Please do that. I think it's a really great idea to have all of the "tools" ready made, then that would reduce the amount of time for students/teachers, as far as the actual downloading process is concerned. Then, just get right down to the "modding", and ask questions later if/when necessary. For those who aren't interested in modding, then they already have what they need, end of story for them. Kudos to ya Nap!! XD
Thanks,
KC

I just wish there was a way to say "first, go to Planetthinktanks.com general forums. Then find the predownload. Follow from there" besides the bots who go away. The title is not long enough. Maybe someone could make a dedicated server and have the instructions. Like vic...or v-I-c... Whatever his name is. His server has been up for ever and ever, but nearly no one goes there... Booooo. That is completely lame. Make it useful.
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.
@ScytheMan,
I've been wondering that myself lately, and w/much checking of GG, have concluded this to be the best next step for me in getting that answer. http://www.garagegames.com/products/1#support
I've concluded to myself, however that GG requires you to "buy" the TGE before getting much support on anything, but once you get the TGE, then I'm sure they would help you w/the install, since it does appear that it's the "buying" not the "installing" that's required to get the help needed on any TGE related question.
I am actually in the stage of doing the same thing, so I can't say whether or not this is true, but it's based on my own "educated guess". I'm only putting my 2% herer, because I see you're dealing in the same thing I am right now. I will update this asap according to my findings. Let me know too eh?
Thx,
KC

To all,
What makes TT great? Is it the "stock maps"(yeah right), 8o or the "Great and Powerful Modddddddds? B) We took this very perplexing question to the streets of your city as well as others. Let's just peek in on one such noteable interview happening as we speak.(sorry for the mis-spellings and pathetic punctuations. I never did graduate from "Journalism" 101). :(
KC: "Are you there Ivan?" :)
Ivan: "Yes, KC we are here live in Your City, USA and about to start our interview
with TTer" :)
KC: "Ok then, go ahead." :)
Ivan: "Thanks KC. Well TTer, we'd like to know the answer to the all burning question, What makes TT great? Is it the stock maps, or the Modded maps?" :)
TTer: "Well, the modded maps of course! They're coooooooool." B)
Ivan: "Really, which one is your favorite?" :)
TTer: "Ummm" :S
Ivan: "So many you can't decide ehh?" :)
TTer: "Wellll....let me see now...ummm" :S
Ivan: "What's wrong?" :o
TTer: "Well, I have a confession to make." :S
Ivan: "What is that?" :o
TTer: "Well, I never did play too many of 'em". :(
Ivan: "Why not"? :S
TTer: "I couldn't stand the long download." :'(
Ivan: "Well, isn't there the TT Mod Pack that you can download to help with that"? :)
TTer: "Well yeah, but I don't know how to do that." :[
Ivan: "But, I thought there was help for that"? " :o Don't you have the Help Forums"?
TTer: "Yeah, I guess so, but...well I don't know, it just seems like alot of work that's all." :[
Ivan: "Don't you know that there are people in PTT who are very willing to help you with that"? They know alot of you are kids, and need a little help now and then." :)
TTer: "Well, it just seems like alot of work." :[
Ivan: "Don't you think it was alot of work for the modders to prepare all those cool mods for you"? :S
TTer: "Yeah, I suppose, but I just wish it was easier to get into one of 'em." :'(
Ivan: "What would you do if all of the modders stopped modding, or worse yet, just packed up and went down the road?" "How would TT be then"? 8o
TTer: "Gosh, I didn't think of it that way." :(
Ivan: "All you have to do is either wait for the download while you do your homework, do chores, or sleep, or just go to Help Forums to get help on the 'pre-download process' for the TT Mod Pack. You'd be surprised at how easy it is with a little help. And boy is it worth it!" XD
TTer: "Boy, mister that sounds great, I'm gonna do it now, thanks!" XD
Ivan: "Well, now that sounds like a plan!" ;)
This add paid for by K id's C entral. XD
