Apple is not environmentally friendly? Dell and HP lead the way in recycling of its products? What is going on at Apple?!?!?!

Ouch!

That's BS.

The G5 is made from aluminum and has more recyclable parts than any other PC.

The iPod uses the same type of battery source that a Dell DJ uses.

I'm sure Apple needs to implement a recycling program but remember,, for every Mac headed to the dump, there are 10-12 PC's.

Also, Macs have 2X more time in active duty as a typical PC so that in itself to me seems much more trash friendly.

But I do agree it's bad press.

That page was created on Dec 19th, they came to the party a bit too late. Apple had recently began implementing new policies for recycling and battery handling issues. The group that created the site even called off a planned protest due to Apples new implementations.

I have to say though, some of their complaints about Apple are kind of silly. Blaming Apple because millions of people bought iPods that will eventually end up in the garbage is a bit of a head scratcher.

How about a much larger problem, blame every single toy manufacturer in the world because they now only make toys that require batteries... The batteries of choice? Old fashioned Lead Acid batteries that consumers throw away after a few hours of usage.

Anyway.... Blah blah blah blah blah....

Heh, you'd be surprised at how many site there are similar to that one! Anyway, what's Apple supposed to use to make their computers? Trees? Wood? Crystal? (Hey, I like that last one!)

Ween...
That is ancient history. Apple saw the problem, listened to the complaints, and fixed the problem.
Here is a Quote from Apple's iPod support page:

IPod Battery Replacement
If your iPod is more than a year old and you're not covered by the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod, you can send in your iPod for battery service for $99.

In addition, there are a number of third party battery replacement kits available to allow consumers to replace their own batteries.

Apple is pretty good at listening to problems and fixing them.

I am the first to admit that I am defensive regarding attacks against Apple. I spent four years working hard for Apple and I know first hand how hard they work to do the right thing for their customers. It is part of the corporate culture. As such, it makes me angry to see sensationalized pieces like the ipodsdirtysecret video posted above. (even more so that it is now perpetuating a problem that Apple already resolved a long time ago).

I guess no-one has any current complaints about Apple so there seem to be a number of old gripes resurfacing these days....

The whole iWaste thing…
It's not really bad press when it's obviously a biased attack against a company. Go to the dump. There are special bins for ALL electronics that get are meant to be used to "properly" dispose of them. Not just apples… their all the same to that effect.

Jeez, Bolo, I though you were more Google-savvy than that. Who buys replacement batteries from the Media Player manufacturer? Honestly.
iPod battery: $29. http://www.ipodbattery.com/

Yes, Apple charges a bit for the battery, but that's because they install it for you. Let's see how much Dell charges for a similar service on their Digital Jukebox. Hmmmmm.....nothing listed. They don't even offer the service. You have to buy a $35 battery and install it yourself. How about the Creative Labs Zen? Same story. In fact, Apple is the ONLY company to provide a battery replacement on their own player. Everyone else just relies on 3rd party solutions (which there are plenty of for the iPod).

The only reason Apple got called to offer this service is because a bunch of whiners who don't know how to find anything on the internet somehow used up their allotted 15 minutes of fame to complain that Apple itself didn't offer the service, and the story aired only because there are a TON of iPods floating out there.

There are more valid limitations about the iPod (no WMA or Ogg support, no built-in mic for voice memos). The battery issue is a friggin joke.

Yah, I like my iPod. The Griffin iTalk completes it. Now I just need to find a case that accommodates the two together.
