I spent this weekend in WDC doing mission work with my church. Naturally, we where working on the "shady," less refurbished side of down. We walked most everywhere. My friend and I only saw two white people the whole time. But, one of the funniest times was when we ahere wlaking up a hill, and two affrican americans drive by and nok the horn. Then about a minute later, they drive by again, except this time the one was sticking out the window. As he got closer, he yelled to all of us "HELLOOOOOO WHITE PEOPLE." It was actually quite funny. Then a cop gave us a detor to the place we were going to. As we walked along the raod, we started to enter a very trange place. Beutiful buildings, yet menacing. We saw ancient sings and old fire stations. Things really started to get weird when we found and old fallout shelter. Naturally, we kept going, as we where late. We cam to a dead end. We stopped there to try and figure out were we where. As my friends and I looked arounf the place, we discovered bullet holes in the walls and fresh shells on the ground. Also, binocular glint from the roof. This would be an apropriate time to tell you that we were all wearing ty-dye shirts. I told the leaders out of the blue that the place we ahere going to was 'that way' and amazingly I was right. Nothing happened! And lo, I am still alive.

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

No offense kid, but I think you had something funny happen to you in DC, or simply talked about it, and fantasized the rest. I'm from DC.

Here's what I think happened, You're from some backwoods place and were completely befuddled that there are people out there different from you and your sheltered world. Your fabricated story simply implies that since there were black people around they must be shooting at each other.

Please feel free to take the next horse and buggy out of town sparky.

I bet you never guessed!! Just stop making a big deal about it geek. PS if you feel that way, go life in the deep south, they feel the same way!

Sunday, May 08, 2005 at 4:16:30 PM

I am not racist. Anything but. I was near the airbase on the other side of the river in ward... 8 I think the dude said. We where trying to find the urban oasis place to help em out. I just thought it was a cool place.

PS. For all who think I live in hickadelphia, I am "near or from" state college, so I do have some city exp. And there were bullet holes. I made a necklace out of the shell I found.

Ozzy,
I am from the South and I take offense at your insinuation that that we are all racist hillbillies. I have seen more racism and predjudice in the North and West than I ever have in the South! By the way...I think Godzilla is Japanese. LOL

Monday, May 09, 2005 at 3:40:03 PM

I am osrry Chuck I have offened you! This is only on my observations ok man, I didn't mean to offend you, no hard feelings ok man?

Monday, May 09, 2005 at 4:18:40 PM

Ozzy, I'm also from the deep south, and since you apologized above, I know you didn't mean it, but it was still pretty offensive.

Monday, May 09, 2005 at 6:34:18 PM

I didn't mean it like that PIP, it was just from a town, honestly, I was in a town and it was just like that, I should have stated that specific town, rather than the general area. I apolgize again.

Monday, May 09, 2005 at 6:37:21 PM

Besides, hilbillies are supposed to live up north in "them ol' mountains"... There are a couple of wierd people who always wear camo and staw hats where I live... Nojoke

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

Monday, May 09, 2005 at 7:02:59 PM

To defend Ozzy guys I am also from the deep south and back in the early 50 and 60's
there were alot of african americans that were tortcherd and killed horribly I live near a town
here outside of Ocala Florida where a man was chased into this small town and was not just hunted like an
animal but every black male that lived there was torcherd or hung by trees.....because the white men thought this
one black man committed a rape...come to find out the rape was committed by a white male..a car still hangs from a huge
oak tree where they hung the men they did catch...it hangs there to remind people of what happened..And for those of you
who would like to know the town is called Melrose Florida..
I also Live in the Ocala Forest where the majority of people still see things or think things should still be like in the 50's and 60's
very cold hearted as far as I am concerned.. For those of you who were offended try understanding why the comment was made
I treat everyone black white yellow green orange the same I treat people the way I want to be treated
open your eyes people.....you think that hate does not exsits in the deep south try again I know better I see it everyday..........
I think it is sad.... Let people be people let them live and be happy for God's sake wake up!

LGM

Unfortunately hate is everywhere. I can say things have improved since the lynchings you describe sheena, but we all have our prejudices. The good thing is that people can learn to be aware of their prejudice and work to eliminate them. I've seen many changes since the '60s, but there's still room to grow.

I grew up in Upstate NY, and for me prejudice was more a case of not knowing "people of color". Once I met people of other races and backgrounds, I learned how stupid it is to judge someone on color or other obvious characteristics. MLK was right about his dream. I want to judge people on the content of their character, not the color of their skin...

Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 9:55:42 AM

I, for one, believe geek's story. There's nothing fantastic about it or racist. Now he is guessing about the "binocular glint" from the roof since it could have just been a piece of glass, but I think some folks need to lighten up a bit...Rogue.

Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 10:13:40 AM

I'd expect that from you Rabban. Offense meant. Especially since in the past you've made ridiculous statements about African American's on here. Oh yah, I forgot. You rescinded by saying, "I'm not racist, I had a black girlfriend." That sounded just like me when I was a kid talking about my make believe girlfriend in Niagra Falls.

My friend and I only saw two white people the whole time.

I can only imagine his disappointment.

A good friend of mine is a police officer in D.C.. Some parts are not the safest place to be at night.. Iv'e heard many stories.. Hes has some :) :) 's

Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 1:32:42 PM

@Rogue -Whatever.

So you don't think I've ever had a black girlfriend? That's your prerogative, but you're wrong. As a matter of fact, I've had several friends of color. It is true I've made statements that to me are clearly logical and are not polluted with the PC vibes that are so popular now days. The problem is I bet you read something of mine and misunderstood my position (just like you did with geek's account).

So are you suggesting its impossible to get lost in DC, walk into an alley and see spent bullet casings on the ground? Is it also impossible to get lost in certain areas of DC and be the only two white people on the street? You don't think it would be an interesting experience for someone to realize it and comment on it, suddenly finding themselves in the minority? Just having that perception makes them a racist?

OK, so how's this story. Once I was in DC for some training. I decided to see the sights in our rental car. I wanted to get off the beaten track, so I cruised around a few streets off of the Mall just to look around, heading out. As you know, there's always some street under construction and traffic tends to push you along if you don't have a certain destination. Soon I was in a rougher part of town that was predominately black. At one stoplight, I noticed a commotion. Seems the police were entering a building from one side, while an anxious looking fellow slipped out the back and right in front of my car. I almost honked my horn to get the authorities' attention, but decided I had better get out of Dodge instead and not get involved.

My point is I was in a mostly black community and something was going down. Its not out of the realm of possibility that someone else could find themselves in a similar situation.

Frankly, your attitude is inflammatory and doesn't really help in any discussion, especially one concerning race.

It being a black or white neigbhorhood is immaterial.

No, I don't believe his story. No, I don't believe your story.

What I believe is that you'd never introduce one of your friends to another as, my "white friend" Harry.

I do believe the story you told previously that you did not have the courage to speak up for an African American that was being harassed in your presence. I also believe that people like you who speak of being God fearing and loving of all men and women only do just that, talk about it. No action is taken whatsoever. I'm glad that I've offended you. Maybe you'll speak up next time.

Your initial paragraphs, on a thread you started, about a subject very similar to this gave us and those who read it a look into your true feelings on this subject. The myriad of backpedaling you did only made you look silly.

Here's what I believe you think from your many posts: All men and women are created equal unless they're black or gay. Tell me it's not true Rabban. Tell me that if you're in your local greasy spoon and a black couple walks in that you and your fellow West Virginians won't mumble to each other or feel uncomfortable. Come on. Tell me it's not true.

Yes I will be harsh with people on this issue. If it pisses you off, good. I'm fed up with people who simply say, "I'm not a racist." Or, people that say, "Don't say that all people in my white town are racist." BS! Most of them are. Why else do the white people live on one side of town and the few minorities on another? It doesn't take cross burnings to be considered a racist.

Most people's faith and belief in goodwill towards man is no more than a matter of convenience so that they can feel better about themselves Don't worry, they're are millions out there in this country. You know that, but won't admit it.

It takes more than a few passages from a Bible or simply saying that you're not a racist to show me that you truly are what you think.

Don't blow smoke up my rear.

Good day preacher man.

EDIT: That is of course if you're not black or gay.

I would like to note that the line "we only saw two white people there" was purely discriptive. On a personal note, the best friend I have at my school is black, as well as a couple other friends. St. Jimmy can back me up on that. Also, 4 of my best friends are homo-sexual. The story I told was not to dis, or for that matter, say someone is better. It was simply to tell of the most remberable experiences during my time in washington. Well, actually the most remberable was during our communion in the national cathedral. The preist went to give me the wine, and she accidentally tipped the glass too much... ::cough:: So, on a more positive note, I think we should end this discussion before anyone gets in trouble. Thankyou

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 4:30:48 PM

Rogue, I'm discovering a striking similarity between trying to have a discussion with you and with my drunken neighbor. He says a lot of irrational things and accuses me of wrongdoing, wrongs that are the very things he's doing. You seem to be the one stereotyping, being hateful and more interested in believing the worst about someone. Is it because I'm white, a Christian, a West Virginian or a combo? Are you spitting at the screen while you type?

I do believe the story you told previously that you did not have the courage to speak up for an African American that was being harassed in your presence.

Actually...there was no black person involved with that incident. It was two guys talking at Rite-Aid and I overheard them. I think I was in pretty good company since others here admitted they probably would have done the same thing.

That "other thread" was a jest gone wrong. I was trying to be cute, but I was also pretty new to PTT (and unknown) so of course the "Champions of Right" felt it was their duty to correct me and set me straight. Another case of people bringing their own issues to the table.

I don't think comparing blacks and gays is the same thing, however, I do feel they're created equal. However, if a person from either group walked into the "greasy spoon", I really wouldn't care. If they were being obnoxious, sure, maybe then I would. However, I really can't speak for all other West Virginians in the eatery.

But then...why bother? Since you've already said you don't believe me when I tell you the truth and would prefer to believe a lie, then I really can't anything at all since you're going to assume the worse in me. Interesting.

Is that tolerance or acceptance?

Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 6:14:26 PM

Think of me more as your spastic colon.

Yes, that was a good jest thread you made. So full of whimsical jest. How could I have overlooked that? Man that was so cute. For a second there in that thread I and others simply thought you were degrading an entire population of people. How silly of us.

What does your opinion of African Americans have to do with you being new to PTT?

I'm not arguing with you. This is simply info you've supplied to us by your writings. There is no stereotyping. I said it's rampant throughout the country. Yourself included. Maybe you and gaming geek can walk through Nigeria together and then come back here and point out that, "Gee, we were the only whities I saw."

[quote]I don't think comparing blacks and gays is the same thing, however, I do feel they're created equal./quote]

So what you're saying is minorities of color shouldn't marry either? What size is your shoe? I hope you can fit both of them in your mouth.

Come over for a Miller Lite later neighbor.

P.S. Yes, I do despise unwielding people who follow an outdated book to the letter and justify their ignorance by it.
Religion is a good idea. When religion becomes a belief people die. See present day for examples.

...and I didn't say anything about marriage.

this is just too silly.

^LOL.

Yes, good job gaming geek. Those are some memories we all should cherish.

The nervous laugh it off Rabban? I expected at least a scripture or two. Please read some passages from Leviticus for me. Explain to me why you don't follow all that it says in those verses. You really don't need to, I'm just pointing out that your faith is a matter of convenience for you. Meaning, your belief that homosexuals are unequal to the rest of the world's population is supported by these readings but yet you seem to overlook the slavery verses wherein.

Look man, I don't believe you're any more racist than the rest of the millions of bigots in this country. You're just one of the masses. I'd have a hard time believing you're not from the all to mentioned thread you made long ago. Think of me as you will.

As racism is a one way street, can we all just agree only white people are racist? Thanks in advance.

Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 7:30:42 PM

I don't have anything against white people. I dated several white women when I was younger, and even ended up marrying one, disappointing my parents in the process. I have a standard poodle and I'm pretty sure he's gay, sort of prances about instead of walking like a normal dog, I don't think he's fit to breed. My wife on the other hand has proven herself capable of doing so.
Just my 2 cents

Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 7:47:35 PM

No that is not a true statment you have racist in all culters (<I do not think I spelled that right)
Anyway what I was trying to say in my earlier post was if someone is shown nothing but hate
what can people expect back?

No, not a nervous laugh. Your accusations are just plain silly, but since anything I say is a lie (in your eyes) its really quiet impossible to respond. For some reason you're turning this into an attack on religion, but I have never used scripture to justify slavery or racism. However, it could be used to show we're all one blood and one people. And you should know that Christians don't live under the Old Testament anymore, so I don't understand why you and others keep wanting Christians to defend those positions. Besides, if you really want understand those passages, there are far better resources than I to study.

I'm willing to concede I'm as much a racist as you are. Please remind me on the most offensive things you can remember that I posted and I'll try to shed some light on where I was coming from.

In the meantime, judge this story as racist. When my wife and I moved from San Antonio, TX to around Salt Lake City, UT. We commented to each other, "Gee, is everyone blonde-haired and blue-eyed?". (Guess I don't like honkies either) ;)

Naturally, we where working on the "shady," less refurbished side of down. We walked most everywhere. My friend and I only saw two white people the whole time.

Actually Rabban you were way off criticizing me in your initial post. I you think the above quote doesn't team with racism you're hopeless. I had every right to tell this kid who is being molded by the dolts in State College that he made an error in judgment. Yes, gaming geek, I know that town well.

Do you really think that simply saying Christians now just follow the New Testament is a truth? No, I don't want to make this a religious discussion. I never even wanted to post a second time in this thread. Try to scold me like a child again and I'll use your words against you.

Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time. Or simply pull out your old prom pictures of you and your African American girlfriends from Niagra Falls.

to say white/black are racists is wrong.all people are prejudice but not all are racist that goes for all people.
anytime you judge someone for anything you are prejudice.you don't know if I'm asian, white, black,or any other beautiful race out there or what religion or non- religion I am.or what my wife is

Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at 12:41:22 AM

So how am I supposed to take this?

No, I don't believe your story.

That's the only line that comes close to say I'm lying. You mostly insinuate it.

Please, lay out for me how geek's quote smacks of racism. He's already admitted it was an oversimplification, but I don't really think he deserved your response.

Still waiting for how I offended you. And I'm not asking you to find what I said and repost it, but to tell me what you remember since it seems to still be festering in your mind. In the meantime, I'll get that photo you requested. It'll have to wait till Monday since its at my mom's. XD

^ I am curious where you were in DC.

Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at 5:56:40 AM

He was in a black neighborhood where shootings and people with binoculars were on every roof top.

Look Rabban, this started out as me busting geeks chops for the most ridiculous thread ever created on PTT. Then you have to attempt and scold me. Even knowing that you were ridiculed for "oversimpliflying" as you call it in that famous thread.

An oversimplification? LOL. Good Grief. Learn to read, it's only three sentences. It simply says this: Of course we were in the downtrodden black area of D.C where fresh bullet wholes abound. His saying that we were the only two whities around was a QUALIFIER to get you the reader to believe his story. Oh man, they'll believe it now if I say it was a black hood. Because Rabban everyone knows that when a few black people get together bad stuff happens. For you kids, that sarcasm.

Hey Rabban, I'll make you a bet. Come down to D.C. And say that quote I pulled out aloud in the same neighborhood that geek was in. If you don't get drilled in the face I'll apologize to you. I know it's not a long trip. Shoot, you can drive your whole house down Mr. Worldly. We'll have that beer.

Rogue, I was just commenting on your heavy-handedness. That's it.

As for the rest, you just keep injecting more into what people are saying than what's really there or at least seems to be there. It does depend on the baggage we bring to the table.

I reviewed the thread in question. Its interesting to note that it happened almost a year ago, seems sorta cyclic. Anyway, I realize I could have done a better job at expressing myself, perhaps chose a different joke and apologized rather than try to get people to understand where I was coming from. Sometimes protesting too much makes one seem all the guiltier. I also noticed that you tended to do the same thing in that thread as in this one, assigning a lot of hidden meaning/backstory to something simple someone else wrote.

I'm not sure what quote you're refering to, but here's an interesting one I found.

I'm sorry Rabban the more you explain yourself the funnier it gets to me. Another Catch 22 I figure. -Rogue

By the end of that thread people understood me better and where I was coming from. It was a process. It seems like you've forgotten that part.

Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at 7:33:51 AM

Yes, your backpedaling was funny. Your point?

If you'd not opened your yapper by singling me out you'd not be pedaling again to defend the moronic title and verbage in this threads initial post.

Hidden meaning? What was hidden? I didn't dig for anything.

Just admit your wrong and that this kid made a snafu and be done with it. It was blatant and obvious. Get over it. You simply didn't read.

Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at 10:17:13 AM

I would like to say one thing. I been reading waht eveyone sayed and my opinion is that both black and whites and others are "shady". Id ont know I was just reading some ppl and they are saying they see a lot of violence around in the black neighborhoods... I dont believe its all just black, Its everyone. WHoever is desparate and no money will most likey go into crime.

Its eveyone who is despareate with no money and shelter and stuff. So tehre are neighbor hoods that are full of whites and look the same as other neighthoods.)
