By the way, I use Safari for Mac, I also tried it on Internet Explorer but that didn't work either, so it probably isn't a browser thing. I am going to try Firefox next, just in case, but please post help or feedback!

PIP give the full discription of the error and I might be able to clear things out.

I'll try my best.

On Firefox I get "The operation timed out when attempting to contact www.planetthinktanks.com" after about 3 minutes of trying.
Basically the same thing for Safari.

How long is it? I would try to post the whole thing, then gradually remove lines until it actually posts. That would at least tell you how many characters you're posting. That way you have a number that you can give someone instead of "short paragraph". You could then send an email to danmac asking him how many characters the comment column is in the database. I mean, do you think you're exceeding the column size?

You could also send an email to a moderator and ask them to look around. I don't know what a moderator can see, but maybe they can see failures, etc.

It's worth a shot.

I'm not exceeding column size, I've seen others post longer things(UF Thread for example).

You could email me what you want to post and I'll try. I'll delete the post right away. That way you would know if it's you or what you're trying to post.

PIP, I've had the same problem when posting something long to PTT on a Mac using Safari. Not sure what changed recently to cause that since I never used to have this problem.

However, go ahead and post a long message and hit the Submit button. Even if it times out, I've discovered, at least for me, that the post is entered anyway. For a day or two I ended up posting twice in a row the same thing because I kept thinking my post wasn't entered to the forum. But it should work anyway. It's an annoying bug, but it really shouldn't stop you from posting at all.

Hope that helps.

Try resizing your window... Seriously.

OM, tried your way.... Thrice. Didn't work even once.
Hugo, I tried that about three times too, also didn't work.

Well then you must be having some other issue. I wish I could help, but without more in depth information about your setup and your connection, it'll be hard to solve.

Have you looked at Sil's suggestion? Try to figure out at how many characters/words this problem starts to appear? It may help us solve your issue.

Umm, that would take a really really long time. My post is only a little shorter than the UF Thread first post. It would take a very very long time to go through it character by character until I find the exact amount. But I'll do it anyway!
EDIT: Didn't take very long. 900 Characters

@ PIP

Two ideas:

1) Compose your post in Word (or the WP of your choice) and then do a cut & paste.

2) Along the lines of Sil's idea....post what it will allow. Then, go back and edit your post and add the rest. See if it will take it then.

@ PIP

With that single piece of information you gave me, I think I found a site that has the SAME issue.

FireFox Users

Your not the only one. People with FireFox are having this problem, too. :)

Did all of that. None of it worked.

You could just try cutting what you want down and put more than one post on whatever you want but that might cause a little trouble soo thats all I can tell you for now 8o

Hey PIP, maybe you can determine if it has something to do with your account. I know it's generally frowned upon, but try creating another test account here on PTT and post something long, like what you haven't been able to do under your current account. See what the results are.

If that doesn't work, you may want to try posting from another computer if you have access to one. Since none of us seem to be having this problem, including Mac users under similar circumstances as your own, it's looking more and more like a problem with either your account, or your Mac. Or possibly an issue with your ISP, but somehow I doubt that.

Try Opera. It works for me, and FireFox/Mozilla don't.
