My pref folder says that I do not have the correct Torque Engine to make this server to appear in the master server. How can I fix this problem?

Little thought: No offecnce to Brave tree, but this game has many issues to adjust to this game. (MY opinion) :o

My only suggestion is to open the prefs.cs and make sure the line that says

"display on master" is set to true

Never heard of this one.

The actual error would of said You do not have the correct version of the Torque Game Engine or the related art needed to connect to this server, please contact the server operator to obtain the latest version of this game. (DETAILS OF ERROR)

Probably has something to do with terrains.

Note that this is the technical support forum. This is for technical support for the site and for the UNMODIFIED game. If the game is not working properly for you and you are attempting to mod it, the post belongs in the modding forum.

I don't believe he is, he's trying to join a modded server. Didn't know that was a 'no-no' as well. :o

If you start bringing non-stock content into the game, or you are joining a modded server, we can't be responsible for what happens to the game, what sort of performance issues you will have, and what it night break.

Again, if you are hosting a mod, please put MOD in front of the name so that people are aware that it is a modded server. If you are modding the game, please be aware that this is officially unsupported, which means we will not give tech support to you once you start modding.

So you're saying that if I had made my first mod (hypothetical), and I decide I hate modding, and re-install the game, and then I have problems, because I modded at one time, I had voided all oppertunities for tech support?

No offence, but that isn't gonna help this game sell. It's gonna hurt it.

Nate: I understand what u mean...but without being a BT member I dont think I could make that determination

Well, if BT isn't willing to offer tech support, I just might.

Tuesday, August 03, 2004 at 2:47:24 AM

If you are getting this message when you are trying to join a server, it is most likley a mod and you don't have the needed files to run the game. This is not something we can fix. This is a normal for this situation. The message is telling you exactly what is going on. The normal reason for this message is when someone is hosting a game with a modified terrain file (.ter) that has the same name as the one you haev locally and they don't match. This probably means that the person hosting the server modified the terrain and named it the same as one of the original files.

There may be other reasons why you are seeing this message, but the error is not a problem with the game. It is normal behavior when something is not right on the server (modified art).

If you don't want to see this message, stick to non MOD games and the Shockwave or Homelan servers, which are un-modified.

A little more clarity is needed on the original support request. What is the problem? My reading of it suggests that you saw a message in the prefs. If you are playing the game and not looking to mod it, you should not need to ever open the prefs file.

If you reinstall the game fresh, we will help you if you are having problems. If you start screwing around with the scripts and movign files around, we will not give tech support.

We are not going to draw a line and say, NO SUPPORT if you play a mod.. But we will take each request on a case by case basis. If you are getting framerate issues if you start using skins or in a mod, we really can't help there. We built the game with minimal art ot ensure high performance, and if any mod affects your framerate, has a lot of lag, etc.. We really can't help. If you start screwing around in the prefs and your shild safe filter gets stuck 'on'.. That is by design.

It must be clear that we are not trying to be jerks about this. We don't have an unlimited amount of time to help people that intentionally or un-intenitonally break the game by trying to modify it. If you were to try to take apart your refrigerator and put it back together by yourself, you would not expect the manufacturer to feel resposible if the refirgerator no longer worked.

A note on 'helping game sales':

Modding is not helping to sell the game. It has the potential to hurt it. The problem in this thread is just one of many examples of individuals perception that the game is broken when it is not. Again, we ask, please put a big ol' MOD in front of your modded servers and please try to make them team games so that we don't have Demos experiencing this problem.

Since the modding started, we have not seen a huge increase in sales. We have had an increase in support requests.

On tech support:

If you have a problem running the game and the problem is a hardware problem or a software incompatability, let us know and we will do our best to fix it. If you are modding and break the game, we encourage y'all to help each other fix the problems yourselves, share information, and help those new to modding to learn the ropes. This is what the modding forums are for.

To the original question as stated:

My pref folder says that I do not have the correct Torque Engine...

ZeBoLoBoT: Are you seeing this message when trying to join a server? Or just when looking at the the prefs.cs file? If it is in the prefs.cs file that you are seeing the message, then that's not the problem. Everyone's prefs.cs file has that message in it. :)

No, I don't have problems joining games. The problem I have is that when I press on the creat button>normal game> launch> the game doesent respond to my DSL, because the DSL cannot pick it up, because I think it's that torque engine thing.

To Pokemalo: you mean that if I stick around in the servers of Shockwave and Homelan my problem will be fixed?

Again, if there are more info. On this please report it here. Thanks everybody XD

Are you running behind a firewall? (software or hardware?)

Tuesday, August 03, 2004 at 7:05:46 PM
b20

No. I disable it when getting on the TT internet. I don't know why. Oh help me with this too. When I get to the TT internet with firewall on, it will say...

Loading

Then...

No servers found.

That why I have to disable it to go on the TT internet and play. How can I fix this problem, AND that the fact that nobody can see my server? HELP!! :S

Thanks. :)

Dan

TT dont need firewall

Wednesday, August 04, 2004 at 3:05:14 AM

You can allow access through the firewall by aponing up ports 28000-28010. If you have your firewall on, basically you are blocking the communication of your game (the client) with the servers and the master server. It cannot 'announce' any server you set up to the master server, and it cannot get info from the master server about found games. This is not a bug, it is the way the game works and the way firewalls work. If you block connections going too and from the net, you won't be able to get the connections. In future versions, we made add automatic firewall tunneling.. But I am sure there would be a backlash from this from security concious players.

But what about the fact that nobody can see my server?

You just explained about the firewall.

If you are behind a firewall, your server will try to send a message to the master server, saying 'I exist'. The firewall blocks this message, and the master server does not register it, so no one can see it.

Bue PokeMalo, when my firewall is off too, again nobody can see my server!!!! What should I do? 8o

If you are connected to the internet, and you have no firewall up, people should be able to see your server. If they can not, there is something not normal going on. I would need more information about your system configuration in order to determine what it might be.
