Crikey... He was my favorite crocodile hunter too... :(
Very sad. He really communicated his love for animals and his enthusiam for Life. He'll be sorely missed.
Steve has done so much for conservation of Australian wildlife, as well as educating people and promoting Australia.
His family must be devastated, but at lease he died doing what he loved. He was filming a doco at the time.
If you ever travel to Queensland Australia - honor him by going to his Australian Zoo - Its a ripper.
Cheers Steve - You're a bloody legend !
Squid
Indeed a Great Man!
He will never be forgotten...
A very sad day, another 'good guy' no longer with us. Rest in peace.
I expected him to live a long and happy life with his 2 kids and wife, because he was so good at his job! But its just 4JC/<ing screwed. :(
Heres a picture of one of those stingray bastards!
Crikey... He was my favorite crocodile hunter too...

I heard he died when a stingray stuck a barb through his heart... Friggin' cool way to die.
That is true rock and roll.

How many people starved to death today?
According to a certain band, 4000 children alone- per hour. That makes... 96,000 hungry children per day. Sure, Steve Irwin died a tragic, unlucky death, but he died doing what he loved, and he taught some people an important lesson in doing it, which I think he would have wanted to happen. I won't be putting it on DarwinAwards.com, but I doubt that those 96,000 kids were as happy as he was when he died. My 2 cents.
CNN
Marine ecologist Sean Connell said stingrays, which feed on small animals on the sea floor, are related to sharks and use their long, barbed tails to protect themselves from predators, such as sharks and killer whales.
"I have never heard of an unprovoked attack from a stingray," Connell said. "Such attacks usually only happen when the ray is under severe stress," he said.
Completely inappropriate but.... Anybody see the Southpark where they had Steve in it?
I don't have that much sympathy for the guy. He knew the risks and constantly pushed the edge with potentially dangerous animals. I do however have a lot of empathy towards his kids. They lost their father for a really stupid reason.
That's the reason I gave up freeclimbing when I got married. I loved it but it is very dangerous and very irresponsible for a married man with a kid to do. (I could have started using ropes but that costs a lot of money and takes most of the thrill out of it).
Yea I used to watch his show all the time - its a real shame he's gone. I guess the only saving grace is that he died doing what he loved, and was always willing to take bold risks and challenges.
He was one of the great ambasators that connected the animal world to ours.
:(
:( Very sad..
HaHa ^^ You Just Got p00ne1) WanT SoMe MoRe?? 1v1 You Host It.
This is truely a sad event. He was passionate about wildlife and conservation he brought that across in his TV programms in a way that has never been done before. I was lucky enough to visit Australia Zoo and see Stev's croc show which was just amazing.
He is a great ambassador for Australia, and one of the world most recogonised crocodile specialist and wildlife experts, I hope he will be remembered for what he was an all round good guy who devoted his life to the welfare of animals, its is a great and tragic loss.
I loved that show for a while. I actually first heard of this while I was watching the Cubs game today.
I used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people die of natural causes.
@ All,
This is not only big news here in Australia but around the world. It has come as such as shock. The accident is even more freaky. Sting ray deaths are almost non-existant, and even though the may look menacing they are not hostile creatures generally.
He will be missed by everyone around the world for not only his antics with crocodiles but animal and conservation awareness. He was an ambassador of Australia, one we aussies are proud of.
Over the next few weeks I am scheduled to dive with sharks and sting rays.....
SK
I heard that on the radio, but didn't get the name before it...shoulda guessed, ehe. That's how he'd like to die though, I guess. :) Oddly enough, it fits him... Gotta feel partly bad for the guy though.
:o ,

I use multi-billion dollar military satellites to find tupperware hidden in the woods... What do YOU do?
I'm sorry, but he should've gone wrestling a croc, Cause he's The Crocodile Hunter. Lol maybe we should givve his body to the crocs. (just kidding but I am sad he died) :(
Lets look on the bright side,he died in the country where he spent the better part of his life... :) :S

Brutally ended...
YOu reallly don't think about your choice of words do ya. First off, it is more likely to be killed by a killler bee than from a stingray, steve was just unlucky in the matter. He wasn't brutally killed, he was stabbed by a stingray's barb.
His parents and teachers say him all the time:
Hey kid, don't touch this animal, can be very dangerous..... But he never understand.
Rest in peace
(Please dont touch to the angels, without God's permission)
Matador }:8)
It sucks that he died when he has 2 very young kids and is very young himself!!
WHAT!!! I can't belive he died :S sting rays are bad but thats just sad I thought jaws was awful this is just so sad. I feel sorry for is kids and wife but he died doing what he loved the most so I guess he loved his life to the end and thats what counts. Though I really got mad putting his baby in so close to a monster but I got over it though he took risks like no one would like said in this post. I think the stuff there doing at his grave is well earned he loved wild life I guess they did aswell he fought some of the nastest crocodiles, snakes and other stuff. I really think he should have waited for the part of the water that he wanted to go in but then again like I said he took some risks it's all over t.v. Where I live and I think it should be everyone should know about this sad sad day that has come to us. They cought his awful death on tape it should be out on t.v. I know some might think this is sick and wrong but he was amazing in his acts and what he did but with animals even though you think your 100% safe theres always that 0000000.1% that it will attack. Maybe he got just to close maybe it just attacked 1 thing why I want to see that tape so bad. But he has been so close to other animals I just don't know why this one had to end his life. Today was very sad and it being so close to the twin towers falling down almost makes it 6 times the sadness today I loved his show the way he made people not afraid of crocodiles and other stuff that he did. It's so hard so belive this stuff but then everyone dies but not like this. No one can be a match to him as this is hurting everyone world wide the impact of a great loss hits so hard and so soon he was to young to die but he did you will never be forgotten steve irwin and you never can be replaced the wild has had a great loss. It will be hard to wake up with alarm clock set before the show and sit with my brother and watch his show knowing that it will not be on I think and will know he won't be here. R.i.p. Steve irwin my thoughts.
You may kill me but your warning is this: you will be hunted down. Unless some really good players are around.

Arc9 why r u cussing at the stingray it was not the creatures fault if he was to close to the stingray. You cannot control any animal if it is in it's own habitat. It was a very unfortunate accident that happened. No one can predict what an animal of any kind is capable of doing. We are all sadin as to what happen to him. I personally have watched many of his program and have ssen many times when an animal went to strike at him. I personally have even come across animals who have tried to attack me and I have not done any thing except come across it in the wild. I wish his family well and am sadin of his loss. His program were very enlightening and refreshing. So remember don't blame the animals they are harmless till come apon in there natural habitates.

I have dived closely together of stingrays and sharks often, in the coral reef El Chinchorro, Cozumel, Acapulco, even I have touched them in his natural environment, they are very calm, I never had any problem.
When you invade stubbornly or aggressively, the living space of the animals, is when they defends itself.
The animals have, neither kindness nor evilness, only instincts.
Matador }:8)
@ IM,
Did you say 5 wiggle??
SK aka Crocodile Dundee
I think ouch PBx is right so is matador but matador is right it's instincts. But the tape would show what happened. So don't blame anyone or thing for that matter yet. But I'm betting he got to close but can't help him now because he's in animal kingdom right now.
You may kill me but your warning is this: you will be hunted down. Unless some really good players are around.

Alas an unlucky event for Steve considering what way more dangerous animals he had faced before. I read few days ago from wikipedia that there are less than twenty(17) known stingray deaths. Stingray's have a habit of being defensive by just swimming away, but it is not the animal which really matters the most. It is the fact he died while doing something he loved to do and for that I give him my full respect. He wasn't in the hospital bed sobbing about his poor life and diseases. He was daring!
You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.
Steve would not like you to blame any animal for his death Arc9.
Very sad though. :[

Apparently he was struck by a sting ray through the chest and just recently has gone to a better place :(
