In a Team Scrum game, are you a great player if your strategy is to dive multiple times in order to spawn at the goal.... Or are you just a jerk?

In a Solo Scrum game are you a great player if you battlemode someone (to get em smoking) who is not relative to the flag or goal..... Or are you just a jerk?

In a Solo Scrum game are you a great player if you camp..... Or are you just a jerk?

What if you use all three of these "strategies" to help you win nearly every game you play.... Are you a great player.... Or are you just a jerk?

Sadly, any vet who chooses to "develop" these strategies to "win by any means" will do just that, but what are you really winning if the bulk of players choose to play "cleanly"? Seems like not much. Kind of an empty way to win in my opinion.

Best way to play (IMO), turn up the music, smoke something silly, and drive really fast, fly really far, get a bunch of points..... Have fun chatting with your friends while you slaughter them by outplaying them, not by using the shortcomings of the program against them.

Just my opinion.....

TG,

Is Demolition the same as Demolition Man?

Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at 3:08:10 PM

@JJ

Nope. Demolition was Demo (lition). Other alias is Dirty and Mule. And Moxy.

He's actually become a good scrummer (when he's not blasting away like a madman).

JJ

Then TG is confusing the two.

I was in that game on her team using an alias. All she said is true.

I did not want to mention it for two embarrassing reasons. The main reason was that my connection to Homelan is never good. And therefore, I should have left the game instead of suffering a 150 and greater ping, especially since the game was going to take every resource to beat the BMing and camping.

But I hung around. I confess but I don't apologize. I thought TG and Hugo could fix it.

Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at 4:11:03 PM

Holy turn of events Batman!!!

Demolition, you don't sound at all like the Demolition we were playing against. This guy was positively righteous about his stance that killing constantly was ok and a good strategy. I am pretty darn sure that his name was only Demolition. Maybe I am confused?? JJ?? Was the person we were playing with Demolition or Demolition Man? I recall his name being Demolition.

@JJ,

LOL, what was your alias? Cmon, you can tell me, I won't tell anyone. :)

I have to admit that I was sure we could take the green team..... Then when Hugo joined, I knew we could take em.... Little did I know what kind of awesome power there was to a team that embraced constant killing. I never got any kind of groove going at all, I remember Sniper saying the same thing, he and I were comparing notes that we could not seem to stay alive any longer than 10 seconds at a time, and we almost never touched the flag.

TG,

You can probably guess and get it right. The player was Demolition MAN. I remembered noticing the name because I vaguely remembered a thread mentioning that Demolition was going camping over the weekend. The weekend was not yet over.

And, yes, for me, it was a sad repeat of the type of Team Scrum match that I had with Jangles, which I mentioned above.

Maybe I should host a "battlescrum" server.

Would a whole new style of scrum emerge that many would like?

Or would the battlescrummers find that when everybody is battlescrumming it makes for an unenjoyable game?

My whole understanding of battlescrumming was that it only worked when most players weren't doing it.

Is it a coincidence that the initials of battlescrum are BS?

It's hard to get through the segmented thread, but it sounds like people are sick of losing, and they are wanting to penalize winners via the game engine / bailing rather than their own skills.

I find this disappointing and unimpressive.

THANK YOU! Well said Tally! Well said ;) buncha whinny cry baby's! Hehe, JK XD

I hate "Excessive" Diving / Cliff Crawling and "Obsessive" Battlemoding! Really bothers the hell out of me. Like the ATTACK army and that CLEANER / TANTALIZER bozo! But I have no problem with doing it for strategic purposes. It's just part of the game. If ya can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen!

Campers never bothered me either because I can usually find a way around them. Again... It's all part of the game! If you can't enjoy it, then you're kinda missing the point. Maybe you should take a break...

@tankgirl

Hahaha yes this is true the best way and in my book the ONLY way to play is to be wasted off something (guiness beer is my choice)... And to fly around like a damn nut is great... The best and most fun way to play... Love to see you in the team scrum games with me now knowing that someone else on my team is also f-ed up on somethin drivin around and scoring points :)

@ tally

I tip my full glass of beer to ya... Here here.. And right on

That is a silly stance.

People aren't sick of losing, they just like the game of scrum to have a higher degree of sportsmanship than what is happening lately.

Take an example.....If you enter a solo scrum game full of vets because you want to play a good and bloody free-4-all, but after a while you realize that you are completely unable to score and finally you realize that there is a secret team playing against you. What would you do? Sure you could take the "Consider it a good challenge" stance, OR you might feel that this is stupid because they should play on a team server if they want teams.... But you might also feel like it is cheating, or unsportsmanlike for them to have a secret team.

Now lets say that every time you join a solo game, you notice that there are secret teams.... What just happened to your appreciation for solo games? You are suddenly forced to be in a secret team or not be able to compete at all. If you complain about how stupid the secret teams idea is, you are told that the idea is to "Win By Any Means" and then you are accused of being sick of losing and being a poor sport..... Furthermore, the secret team fans argue that there is no rule stating that they cant be a secret team and that it is not poor sportsmanship since it is possible to do within the game engine.

Yet you know that the game of solo scrum was just compromised... Nowhere near the cool and unique experience it once was. Suddenly the game is a team scrum game without the colors... Homogenized.

That is how I feel about BattleScrum. The game is becoming battlemode with a flag. Completely compromised experience.

You cant just write this off as whining.

<--------- Battle Scrummer

I've been battle scrumming since I've started playing the game. Have heard no complaints yet. My recommendation is to create your own Scrum MOD with no ammo. Until you do that you may want to stop the whining. Funny how we have all of these idea guys who can't act upon it. If you want to put an end to the battlemoding create your own server and zip it. It's pointless to argue over playing style when the game is what it is. This is a tank game where you shoot your opponents. End of story.

It makes total sense to shoot the hell out of a very good player. It's a superb way to neutralize them. I never heard a great athlete whine when facing double coverage. If people are concentrating their fire on you it benefits your mates. If you don't agree with me then you're a glory chaser and don't understand the team concept in TEAM Scrum.

Take a look at the team scrum league in a couple of week and check out how the Cerebros Locos are doing. If we remain competitive then it's a testament to the validity of shooting the ass off of your opps. We are predominantly a BM squad and will have players like Tally, X, Hugo and others at the end of our rage all game. The thing is that these guys will still score and won't get bitter. Why? They understand what a team is.

Still hate diving but won't complain in game. Hopefully in the next version of TT divers will spawn right where they took the leap.

Beware all ye pacifist scrummers. Rogue, Dash, Mongo and Supra have entered Scrumland and plan on making an extended stay.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

"Take an example.....If you enter a solo scrum game..."

Solo scrum? Egads. Solo scrum is dead, and it has been since the game was updated. Use it for practice . If for some illogical reason you're expecting to beat 9 other people, you're due for some serious frustration.

WHEN WILL THIS THREAD EVER END!!!????

In regards to BattleScrum. Even when I get a chance to play a game with all Vets, it still becomes a huge bloodbath, only it happens at every goal.

In the usual games, there's a couple vets, a couple newbies, and the annoyances. The vets are quietly taking the game, getting in those great steals, making great runs, making great kills. The newbies are picking things up here and there, not scoring to much but learning. The annoyances are just killing everyone. I honestly am starting to enjoy these games much more.

In the elite games (all vets). It's just a simple blood bath. Everyone's a great shot so people get killed quite often and everyone knows where to go and were to be and is almost always ontop of the scrum or runner. They may not BS while driving around to the scrum, but if you get it, it's all over. Once the scrum carrier gets close the the goals he/she's almost instantly killed and a bloodbath insues while everyone is fighting to inch the scrum into the goal. Then the scrum jumps from person to person and that one lucky sole that get's it and taps in the goal scores without anny run or any skill involved, just like a lucky spawn.

I've been sticking to Team Scrum lately. There's just so much more to the game and so much less nonsense. Things are welcome so much more therefore nobody complains as much about getting shot at or someone camped and "stole" a goal.

BSing, BMing, Camping, Camper Killing, Annoyance Players, diving, secret teams, etc., etc., etc. Are just all part of TT's. Adapt to each game and each player and walk away with the winning score. "Survival of the Fittest".

Hellooo!!! Rx and TH, regarding the solo scrum game and the "secret teams", do you get that I am making an example? Rx, "secret teams" are usually demos working in concert, but I have also seen some accomplished players working together as teams of two or three..... Secretly... It is not that big of a deal.

And for what it is worth TH, it is not impossible consistently winning in solo scrum against 8 or 9 other people, I do it all the time.

Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 3:47:55 PM

I was in the said games. We were fighting a reall good green enemy team that for sure! :P

It was brutal, we lost the 4 games I was involved with! X/ True that they were naughty bmer but also they HAD driving skills as well and played a MEAN and TIGHT game. I was dying VERY quickly but I gave up long ago complaining about 'bmers' for we're all bemers at varying degree. :)

I was constantly typing 'WE HAVE TO OUTGUN THEM, BLUES' etc. Even the famous 'RALLY TIME' was to no avail. My team was no match for them they had good runners and good campers. I was thinking 'Wow THIS would be a nasty team to fight in PsychoScrum!'

This said we lost one game like 15-6 or something but the other were much closer, you know like 12-9 and the like. It was a very challenging night! The ZONE was on their side, they had many freebies and good spawns and for some time we played 5-4 and the like. One more Level 5 Veteran would have been helpful B)

Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 4:43:47 PM

I was on that green team. I sure wish I could remember who was on my team! We did seem to be in the zone. It wasn't just one or two guys being hot either, it seemed as if all of us were ON. Did some of us go too far with the BM? Yes, I think so....but the intensity was incredible and it only increased when Hugo joined! We all knew we had to take it up a notch or else blow our big lead and initially he did lead a strong comeback as they got within 2! Then we finally took it up another notch and kept it going just enough to win as Hugo mentioned.

If you played that game, let me know. I don't usually take screenshots of team games. I think God was on our side (not the Holy One, but the amazing player named GoD).

Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 4:50:51 PM

Solo Scrum is always composed of secret teams: The "Have" and the "Have-Nots!" XD

Yah, I've seen a couple buddies pair up in Solo scrum (usually newbs). Haven't seen that tactic amongst the Vets since it goes directly against the whole concept of Solo Scrum.

@LilAlien

WHEN WILL THIS THREAD EVER END!!!????

Heh, either when everyone runs out of something to say about it, or a new thread picks up where this leaves off. This topic is the song that never ends!

I think I'm feeling the itch for CTF games again. In those games, there is a good (and accepted) reason to BM, but it is arranged so it is entirely possible to score without your gun. It really supports both styles of gameplay. No "gentlemen" rules required!

Only 1 out of every 10 indie games is actuall held in good manner...i accept this and only play it when nothing else is going on. Many of u see me in BM servers more than anything. If there isnt an available slot in teams I defer to BM. When lag or full servers are there THEN I might try an indie game. (CTF isnt an option cause lag is unplayable). Been beating up demos in solo BM lately....its fun for 5 minutes then it gets old.

Hugo/tg: next time you need some guns on your side email me :)

I cant comment anymore. I think that scrummers who cannot BM have less game than they think.

It doesnt hurt to ALWAYS drive backward and BM any and all followers. Camping is fine too if thats what it takes.

I thought I had responded to this but I didn't and for that I should be whipped :P

While this is only my point of view I hope you all see me as a great player. I do my best to be respectfull at all times and never cheat. I have accidently killed some one on the other team or my team when tring to kill the scrum runner but I always say sorry when that happens. I have also asked to be killed by my team mates but that is the way I see the older Vets play so if this is wrong please say so. I value how you all see and think of me! I try to set a standard for all by the way I play, so please comment if you think different. THE WOLF HAS SPOKEN
