@Bolo,

Last I heard from you, you said Friday 7:30 PDT. There was no sign of you last night. And I briefly saw Filbert on Sluggy's server an hour later. Please email me at teamcranium@rogers.com.

I'll be around for most of the day, but I'm not certain about my teammates.

As it stands, if no game is played, team 16 gets eliminated. Good luck getting this in.

OK OK, TODAY at 6;00 PDT, ANYONE????

Saturday, January 17, 2004 at 4:22:56 PM

Tally, that's a little spurious...why on earth would Team 1 even try to show up now? Do you think the Chiefs would have played last

Weekend if they had that option? Filbert - if 6 Pacific means 8 central....so im in....just need password and where to go.

Saturday, January 17, 2004 at 4:47:34 PM

Let's try not to send things to the absurd.

Saturday, January 17, 2004 at 5:21:59 PM

Please elaborate Tally...I'm not absurd, just a factual observation. If you're trying to exclude from

League games I've been invited to, I certainly don't appreciate it. Please elaborate so I don't get

Too offended...thank you.

I'm tempering my language because it seems I'm in charge of this thing, so just read this, and hopefully I won't insult you:

Claiming that team 1 would not show up to a scheduled game because of what I wrote is both ludicrous and insulting to them. It seems from the above that your team has already missed the first meeting. Based on that fact, I posted what I wrote above, and in this post, I reiterate what I wrote. It is nobody's job to wrangle the kittens.

@Team16

Nothing would please us more than to face you. We're not ducking anybody and looking for the easy win. Check out the 2 on 2 tourney thread on GarageGames for an idea of how much we wanted to compete, but never did because of scheduling and absences. As a result, that tourney was never completed.

Tally received input from many of us on how to run this thing. Eventually, it was agreed upon that the onus was on the teams to get it together within a fixed time period so that the tourney could move on. We submitted our schedule of availability to you early on in the week and you've given us nothing concrete.

I've posted my email address above. Please email me when your team has a mutually-agreed upon time to play. Once I receive that, I'll email Tanky and FP and we can try to work this out.

Yes, I was a late addition to the team as one of the original members could not play. I'm not

Doubting their desire to play; I'm simply saying from a purely "end result" view point, the simply

Don't have to play to win...that's all. Wasn't being "absurd", just an observation...no harm was

Intended. Tally, thank you for tempering your language...mine has been tempered as well.

If they win, so be it...have a great day!

Saturday, January 17, 2004 at 6:49:18 PM

I never said you were absurd. I said you had "sent" things to the absurd, meaning your ultimate conclusion, based on hypothetical evidence of an event which could happen [in that.000001% likelihood sort of way], was absurd, not you personally. Nothing in my one-sentence post was a personal attack; it can only be misread as such, or read improperly.

Fallacy

As a logical fallacy the argument takes the form

A has occurred (or will or might occur).

Therefore B will inevitably happen.

Where B generally dwarfs A in significance. The "camel's nose" example is: once a camel has managed to place its nose within a tent, the rest of the camel will inevitably follow.

The fallacy is that such a claim requires an argument connecting the inevitability of B to A.

The slippery slope fallacy is often connected to the straw man fallacy to attack the initial position:

A has occurred (or will or might occur).

Therefore B will inevitably happen. (slippery slope)

B is wrong; therefore A is wrong. (straw man)

This form of argument is often used as a commentary on social change. The argument holds that once an exception is made to some rule, there will be nothing holding back further, more egregious exceptions to that rule.

Thanks for the clarification...your tact is less than desirable...good day sir.

Saturday, January 17, 2004 at 8:44:33 PM

Your quote "Let's try not to send things to the absurd." Let's; us = anyone, not just me, in thread not send "things" which could be interpreted to mean a password, which I asked for in the previous note, to the "absurd"...I could only assume that was me. Clearly it could be interpreted several ways...just a communication gap...we are BOTH wrong...no real fallacy, but thanks all the same.
