I just found this on a webpage, via Google:
The mysterious origins of wOOt are said to be based in hacking history. Back in the 80s when a hacker rooted (got root access to) a computer he/she would exclaim "wOOt (We have root.)". Later use spread to gamers as a victory cry/ positive response much the same as cool.
So, it's not a ThinkTanks only thing. It's been used in games for some time now.
Interesting. Shows how much I game, or hack. I don't even know how to gain root access on my own computer.
Just kidding. ;)

Personally, I always preferred saying "toot!" whenever I scored as my alias Flatulence. If it was a very hard-fought goal, then I'd say "Poot!" cause I damn near soiled myself in the process....
I have also heard it mean "We Own the Other Team" or from old RPG games meaning "WOW! LOOT"
Interesting, keep it coming. What about 'quack'?
Never heard of quack, perhaps ack?
Been wearing the a-c-k keys since me mythin' days. Not sure I heard if before I said it, but then again, I just spent 45 minutes looking for my shoes.

@ Tally Ho
Got it. Sorry for being a bit dense. Never have been very rural. I did read 'Charlotte's Web' as a kid, and slam my finger in a tractor door when I visited a farm as a kid...that about does it for my farm animal exposure.

I started saying quack on accident....
Meant to say ack> typed qack> started saying quack.
I didn't know that others said it in games as well... Shows how much I pay attention. :)
Quacking Monkee (identity crisis?!)
Perhaps we should change this celebratory cheer from "woot" to "woof". This word or sound was first popularly emitted by homo sapiens in 1985 when Chicago Bear's fans used it as a chant during games on the Bear's road to their record winning victory in Superbowl 20.
I just read this somewhere the other day...
We Own Other Team
Whoopee! Outsmarted + Outmanoeuvered Tally!
Personally I like to think of it as: Woooooooooooooooo! + t.
Variations might then include Woohoot, Yeeehaat, and Yest.

Perhaps we should have a contest to see who can come up with the best (new) acronym for W.O.O.T (eg. Wrecked Other Occipital Tendon, or Wiggled Out Of Tragedy...i am pretty sure someone can do better than those two). The winner gets a free butt whooping from Tally. What do you say Tally?

Yeah, actually Dictionary.com has the following 3 acronym meanings listed:
1) W aste O f O ur T ime
2) W e O wned the O ther T eam
3) Wonderful Loot (apparently from the game Everquest)
Heh. I kinda like the "waste of our time" meaning myself. %)
Yes I belive it originated with 1337, a language hackers came up with.
Wicked
Or
Other
Tactic
We Owned the Other Team (gaming term) found it somewhere

Just curious if anyone knows the origins of the whole 'woot' thing after a scrum goal...and 'quack' for that matter, and any other TT exclusive coloquialism.
