JUU!
To everyone who changes their name every other day. What if everybody would do it too. Would it help up builting a community, where everyone knows everyone? No it wouldn't. What kind of fun it would be to play everyday againt only new guys, not a single familar face. I bet you would like it a lot!
You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.
@ 44
Well I make my nicknames very well known, I have them listed almost everywhere. I only play with 4 different ones, but scotty is my most common. I dont do it because im harrassed or w/e, I do it just because its nice to be or try something different once in a while. Lol call me funny but thats how I am hehe XD

HEY! Maybe some of us just don't like gettin shown up! Heat miser...
@44
I agree with you 44, even though I am one of the worst abusers of aliases. I have tried to play more often with my name as well as letting everyone know it's me when I am using another name such as NutCracker (for Holiday season) and Gladiator (because I just saw that powerful movie again). I also enjoy using funny names for games with a theme, just like you do, buddy. Nothing wrong with that. I enjoy themes like the ones we had for politics and even religion (I was Jesus, GoD was GoD, 44 was Holy Spirit and Memphis was Moses, Chong was the Devil of course, heh heh).
Still, I understand the main point you were trying to make. I've been lectured about this by TankGirl many times. She uses a lot of aliases too, but most of the time she indicates who she is by using (TG) or (K8). I might do the same thing with (Pi) or the pi symbol if I can get it paste into TT. I agree that it is frustrating to play new names all the time and not know who they are! I do think it's because these players do it because they hate to lose (I confess that being anonymous is great because no one will know you lost, but deep down you know you lost).
I am hoping (and I've sent suggestions to Bravetree about it) that TT2 will include a limitation to the number of aliases you can use. The same way that AOL does or any other online service provider. This will provide many answers...first, it will generate more revenue because multiple players from the same family will have to register a name/license. Second, it will allow them to lock down and secure unique user names!
It's too easy for jerks to hijack names and imposter good players and ruin their reputation. Incorporating such a system would prevent this kind of mess and also prevent others from behaving in embarrassing and insulting ways! No one would behave like a jerk if they knew everyone would discover their true identity (there are exceptions, of course).
So, in summation, I feel your pain and will continue to try to use my name more often or at least let everyone know it's me as early as I can in a game (not just at the end of the game that I've won, which is b.s.).
In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with playing under a different name - I do it often (MC Hammer, Heat Miser, OJ Simpson, Pho Faux, Scott Peterson, etc.). It can be a lot of fun. But, I always make people aware of who I am ("fo fo fo fo", etc.). Usually, either my game play or sense of humor give me up anyway.
Again, my issue is with people who hide behind an alias and can't seem to pick a name or personality. I would bet there are players out there maintaining multiple identities. Don't hide, that's all I'm saying. I like to know who I'm playing against...it makes for a better gaming experience when you get to know the personalities behind the names.
@Paisano
Just be Paisano -- he seems pretty cool to me. Ciao friend.
LOL. You play as MC Hammer too. Funny. I play under an alias when I just want to play a game and not chat. Although, I don't play much at all anymore.
I've personally found many regular players who just like to act like a punk when using an alias. When I used to Admin and could see IPs I'd be shocked by what were thought to be cool players coming in a server and ruining a game under an alias. Don't be surprised if a lot of the idiots/punks on this game are people that play completely normal when using their regular name.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.
Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.
@Rogue
You saw exactly what I was trying to say about the benefit of having ONE name per player...period. Players would think twice before acting like jerks if they knew everyone would know it was them!
I don't generally use a lot of aliases, most of the time you can figure out who I am if you know anything about how I play or my goofy trash talk. I try to only use the aliases when I'm playing against people who are only playing to get under your skin. I play the game for one reason, to have fun. If you play solely to win, then you are missing the point of any competition, unless of course you're getting paid to play and no one here falls in that category. Although that's an interesting idea, professional think tanks...
Peace out,

I only use one alias and I use it because it's a play on my last name. I don't know if you know what it is, and I don't care. It would be nice to know who this alias'd guy is tearing up the game but I'm not going to loose sleep over it. If I'm alais'd I'm sure you'd know it was me by how easily the scrum is taken from me. I need to get those football gloves with the stick-em on them. Lol

I agree with both you (44) and Paisano, it's way too easy for imposters and jerks to ruin games. Luckily for us ThinkTanks is still a pretty tight community so there aren't too many people doing this. If/When ThinkTanks gets much larger, then the need for a single account name will get much greater. It's definetly something that needs to be thought about.

Reagent X said it best, "I believe that 80% of the aliases are owned by 20% of the regular players!"
No one is fooling anyone! I've even seen some of you use fake Demo names (using zero instead of letter o- DEM0)!!!
Here are some suspicious characters that states they are not aliases, but I swear they are vets in disguise:
polekat (very similar game to minnow)
Larth
the mexican
december 26 (changes every day...I know it's JFDNY cause he confessed)
FUBAR (the nasty persona to most likely a nice regular vet)
Burnsie (some say it's Bolo)
Phoenix (rumor has it that its Max)
Homer (similar to gnat and minnow)
I wouldn't be so sure if Larth is a alias. He have played this game longer than you.
You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.
Why don't admin’s grab the player stats when they log into the server or check the log file? There are log files written on these dedicated servers aren’t there?
Just curious. All you would need to do is post "do you know this IP address?” add your private address for an email and poof, you have your cross referenced alias.
Not too hard.
Do you really need to know who's behind the mask?
Nap
Who? Who?
Who? Who?
Tell me, I really wanna know...
Thanks, fo - now I got it stuck in my head!
I'm Spartacus! (Sorry, couldn't resist.) The only time I "Josh" around or engage in "tomfool"ery is when I feel the need to medicate a troll. But sometimes the troll leaves or I migrate and forget to switch back. Oops! But I've actually seen a Josh in the servers a while back, so I haven't used that one in months (I apoligize for any confusion, folks!). Don't wanna step on a real dude's name.

Burnsie (some say it's Bolo)
Hells no.....im much better
B
I play under one name as a stress reliever for when I just don't feel like sharing how I am with everyone, probably because I would end up ruining someone's day. One of those 'punks' may be me.
Just my 2˘.

Hi all
I get a kick outta ppl impostering bots
I was in my ScruMod once and "Buzzard" jukes me
I go runnin after the bot with the brain. Lol
I have to say that I appreciate knowing who is who
And that I use my name 99.9% of the time. The chat is better and
if someone is seeking advise or wants to report activity in my servers then
I am that much easier to find
The few and I mean few times I have aliased is to check the servers I am responsible
for. Mine and many others
As a matter of fact I joined a recent TS game at Dashbash as JungleJim.
I wont go into names but the folks there took me as a noob (not hard to do for me lol)
I was playing and watching as 1 player started to slip back into unsavory ways
I changed his name to get his attention (sure sign an admin is present)
but the fella didnt take the hint and degenerated into foul language and abuse
He did take notice when kicked for the f word
But I am happy to report that upon re entering he was well behaved and even staged an impressive
comeback and almost stole the game. GJ on where to focus the frustration!
Even then after this guy left I announed myself the the veteran players
So I personally have a extremely limited need for disguises
My 2 cents
Roo
"the Walrus"?
Twas not me (I'm alias-free btw :)
Well, I'm NOT "JFDNY" - in fact, I avoid this character but now I play daily under the current date ex: December 28th. My name changes daily but everyone should recognize me as being the same player.
When I started I played as "El Conquistador", "Mike [bot]"and then as "Rory Meador" before settling down to using the current date. :)

Quick rant:
I'm frustrated by players who play anonymously. I've heard all the excuses about getting battlemoded, insulted, yada, yada, yada. Pick a name, play with it, and be real. If you're cool, people will like and respect you. If you ain't cool, keep changing your name and working on your personality.
I'm sick of trying to figure out who I am playing against and think it's weak when people try to keep themselves anonymous. I know this is going to wrinkle some feathers, even among people I like, but it drives me crazy.
Here comes the inflammatory statement...
I think a lot of players use anonymity as a way of protecting themselves from the perceived embarassment of a loss. Everybody loses -- suck it up and stand tall.
