All right - I have had all the lagfests I can stand.

I apparently have no choice but to put my server back up full time.

As some of you may know, when I run the server now it's on my notebook when I am not traveling. The suck factor in doing this is quite high, as I travel a good deal.

Therefore, I have decided to get off my lazy ass and go ahead and configure the extra machine in my office to run full time. In order to do this, I am going to ask for a little assistance:

1) I would like to put the entire MOD PACK in the rotation. Can anyone fill me in on doing this?

2) I will need an updated admin circle banlist.

I will go ahead and put it up with the basic maps this morning and will install the various scripts as soon as someone 'splains how to do #1!

Get the Mod Pac, and Expansion Pac at ( http://reagentx.home.comcast.net/ )
I can help u install it when your ready. I will send you the mission loader already set up but are you sure you want to have all maps running? Someone would have to play for 3 days straight to see the first map they played. Maybe thats youre plan, any way if you want that ill set up the mission loader and send it to you and help you install it.

Later

Oh, yeah.

Wish someone would provide a sort of highway map of the main internet TRUNK (that right word?) lines.

Then it might explain why west Canada connects better with lower east US than west Canada connects with California, for example. Or lower eastern US connects well with Chicago area sometimes but not mid-US and California.

Yeah, yeah, probably has to do with routers and ice on cable wires...

RX and dash have all the secrets for managing a server. And if they told you all of them, it would mean learning company secrets. And you know what that means... Once in the inner ring, you will never be able to check out alive.... Muhahahahahahaha.

Thanks CB - please do email me and I will email you back if I have an issue installing it.

Here's looking to some more lag free games!

Hey Chief,

I believe Nappy has gone through and organized a set of 30 rotating mission files. Perhaps he could send you those. He renamed them so that he can rotate through all 30 of them (by naming them TT1_1.mis through TT1_30.mis). The he just runs a GREEN rotation and it cycles through all of the maps.

If you need any other pointers on adminning pleqase feel free to e-mail me. Good luck!

See the problem is that there is no organized way of doing this. Modders have their own naming convention and if we followed TT's we would either interfier with the stock maps or would not be able to isolated stock maps from a particular rotation.

My suggetion would be for anyone who wants to host some maps to keep thier own library of maps and reference links. It would probably make sense to look into the mission loader so you wouldn't need to rename any missions. This also allows you to choose the order of missions.

Just a suggestion.

There are some nice switches in the syntax for launching dedicated servers, GREEN for lush, RED for frantic, and BLUE for spooky.

What some people do is take all of the mods they want in rotation and rename then all TT1_1.mis and so on. They then use the Green in the syntax.(Windows OS shown)
cd..
ThinkTanks -dedicated -mission GREEN -game TS -log 1

Green plays all TT1_x.mis files. TT1_1.mis, TT1_2.mis, etc.

But if you still need the stock terrains this in not so convenient. To use this with non-stock terrains you need to have 4 sock missions, even if hey are renamed mods. If one of the 4 are missing the rotation will cease.

I guess it depends on what you need. I would pick the maps I need or want, rename then TT1_1.mis - to the last mission you want. Then just use the syntax listed above.

Let me know if this doesn't work for you. We'll work something out.

Thanks Nap - really appreciate it - - am going to be working on this later on this evening!

Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at 7:50:28 PM

What Nap said. What I do is create a separate copy of TT for each rotation of maps that I host. That way you can have a version of stock maps ready to go, a League rotation, etc. Etc. Without interfering with one another.

Yep, I think I'm up to 8 copies of TT at the moment.

I wanted to make a pdf for arials of all of the maps but only MM has ariels of all of the maps. I could only find about 10 arials of dash's maps. I don't wnat to spend the time of taking ariels of all of the maps at this point.

We could always create a static set of mission files and append new maps to the end. Unfortunatley there would be no good way to organize it with only 3 map catagories.

Then if you wanted a specific set of maps, you wouuld still have to do what we're talking about anyway.

The only other way is to create a static set of maps anduse the mission loader. Let me check that out.

Btw Chief, I forgot to mention that I think it is a great idea to have a huge rotation server! Will be a good complement to other TS servers.

You guys don't need to go that far. All I do is I made a folder in game/server/scripts called mission loaders, and I have about 8 different loader configurations in there. When you want other maps either pick one or configure another one. But after changing the mission loader file always remember to delete the mission loader cs.dso. Then simply add or remove this line from the main.cs exec

("game/server/scripts/MissionLoaderMain.cs");

I believe this has to be below Dash codes if they are installed.

Linksys sucks.

Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at 2:06:49 PM

You have a Linksys router Chief?
Go to their website and read about Port Forwarding-Port Triggering
Its all there and once you work thru it its a done deal

Thanks Roo!

The problem here is I have 2 (maybe three) routers to deal with.......

I remain undaunted however. I just have to wait until I am physically near them (one in Charlotte the other in Raleigh) before I can figure it out and get the issue resolved.

Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at 11:46:52 PM

Issue resolved. I just flew back into town and boy are my arms tired.

Server will be up sometime this evening...am following Nappy's advice on re-naming the various maps so they should all rotate.

Friday, June 24, 2005 at 6:19:02 PM

Server's up - once it starts showing on the master server (will be some point this evening until the VPN UDP is forwarded correctly - I am apparently too stupid to do it) I will load all the maps and scripts...probably Sun or Mon.

Any issues until then email.
