Squid, I strongly reccomend you get this program called Ad Aware SE Personal .

Not only is it free, but all you have to do is click the scan button and it shows you all objects that could potentially be a threat to your computer (spyware, ads, etc.)

You can remove them once your done with the scan.

Try it out.

Of course, it's the 'missus' who has got it infected isn't it... It couldn't be you looking at "questionable" websites could it...

Try Spyware Search & Destroy (google it, too lazy :P) and if it doesnt work... Try... Scanning on SAFE MODE, and then if it doesnt work... Post in some technical help forums! (f.e. http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ )

I highly suggest putting the thumbscrews to your wife to find out what website she was at. This will give you a good starting point. XD

I personally use both adaware and spybot
spybot

If none of those work you can always do it the old dangerous way. :S

First check the add/remove programs folder for any programs that you do not recognize. Check what they are and remove any of the nasty hijackers.

As a final last ditch effort you can always use the infamous... DUH... Duh...duuhh...

Msconfig & regedit (not recommended for anyone who has seen a beer, let alone had a beer for the last three weeks)

Msconfig -- disable any program from starting up that you cannot google to a credible source. Then reboot and see what happens.

Regedit -- trace down any registry entries that are not associated with a program that you want (there's only a couple thousand to search through) and delete them.

You can then trace down any program that has messed with you (mostly the windows/temp/ or installed in the /programs/ folder) and delete it.

Needless to say.. Backup-- Backup-- Backup

If none of this works -- delete the harddrive and reinstall your system.

Spybot Search and Destroy, or even Norton, They both work good.

I used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people die of natural causes.

I think Squid should get a Mac . XD Lol. That's all I'm going to say... Other than: Get all the anti-junk programs, haha. It worked for me on my PC, and it should do well for you. That was, of course, before I saw ¡The Light! ... :P

My computer slows down just having that image on the screen. Get it OFF! Ick.

Get AdAware, Spybot S&D, and a good antivirus which is NOT Norton. Get AVG Free, because well, it's free. If you don't have a firewall or NAT device (hardware firewall, router, ect), get one of those too. (Software firewalls work just as good but consume system resources)

3 things that are adware's worst enemy

Zonealarm (free firewall)
avg (free antivirus)
spyware doctor(free spyware if u manually remove infections)

Ive tried all the other popular antispyware products and only spyware doctor catches it all
