I was playing team battlemode today on the green team and another "piglet" joined my team and proceeded to blast away at me and other greens as well as blues. This fake also berated other players. I quit and went to another server but in a few minutes my alter ego showed up there, too. I'm new to think tanks so I don't know if this sort of thing happens often but it pretty much ruined my game today. I hate to think someone is out there being a jerk and giving me a bad name. :(

I have clones of me runnin' around everywhere. Once you have a reputation, people will know it's not you and will just ignore this person. But since you're new and you probably don't have much of a reputation, I'd just keep it quiet when you are playin' so when ur fake shows up and talks he will be recognized accordingly.

As for your "alter ego", around here we call them impostors, and yes, it is unfortunately a somewhat common occurrence. The de-generates and low lifes that come around here seem to get some kind of cheap thrill out of ruining a persons game, or their good name. It's been a problem for some time, since Thinktanks doesn't have any kind of name registration system, so others can't use your name. Until something like that is added to TT, if ever, expect impostors to happen from time to time.

I'd like to say that 99% of the time, impostors are easily spotted by others and so, don't get an opportunity to slander others too much. However, since they almost never announce themselves as impostors in game, it's kind of impossible to really know how successful they are at that.
The best thing to do is what you just did. Let everyone know you have an impostor, so we'll know if someone using that name is acting like a complete ass, it probably isn't you.

Thanks for the input everyone. Hopefully it was just an isolated incident and won't happen too often. Anyway, I'm a pretty lousy player at this point...I really don't know why anyone would want to be me! :)

Funny thing, last time I checked, everyone new played horribly, and got the hang of it after a few weeks. Don't worry, you'll improve, and then you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that they're all jealous. Welcome to PTT! Just stick with it.

And also, watch out for Enigma. He loves to imposter people. That's why he's on ban ...

Never heard of him probably talked to him in his imposter stance!
