@ ALL
Well I called you all here cause,
1. I would like to see how many of us are hunters and what you hunt ?
2. Where do you hunt ?
3. Do you hunt by your self or in a group ?
4. What is your choice of weapon ?
5. Do you do any scouting (recording tracks, setting up stringers for Bucks, building water holes, recording rubs or set out any salt blocks or food) ?
6. When are you leaving to go hunting and when are you coming back ?

I will start.

1. I am a bow and gun hunter. I hunt deer and pheasant.
2. This year I will be hunting in Sauk county, Wis.
3. I hunt both ways either by myself or with a group. When hunting pheasant, I like to hunt alone. Deer hunting I either go with a group or by myself.
4. I have a Remington 30.06 semiautomatic. I also have a Benelli 12gauge and 20 gauge. Last but not least, I also have a Sniper rifle.
5. I do all the scouting I listed above.
6. Well I am leaving to hit the road in about 3 hrs.. I will be back with any luck tomorrow night or I will be gone until Mon. Night !

Well I wish you all luck and be safe please. B)

P.S.
I would like a update when you get back on how many deer you took and to see who had the biggest Buck( I want total points, spread and field dress weight please)

@ Lone

Primarily wing shooter - duck.

Typically eastern SC - Lake Marion and the Black River in Georgetown.

Remington 1177 12 GA 3" 3/4 choke - depending on what I'm after either 2 or 4 shot. Also carry a sidearm - Ruger.22 auto loaded with rat shot for the occasional snake that is encountered.
Although I have been known to hunt solo (during the week), I typically go with the same group of three people (myself being the fourth).

We scout at different times throughout the year - also pay attention to flyway forecasts and census. Also, have found that tracking historical data (i.e. Bag totals and location of blinds) helps immensely as well.

We usually put out our primary blind (a camoflauged pontoon boat that we usually spend the night before on) 7-10 days beforehand so that the ducks have time to get used to the change. We go back the day before we intend to shoot - scouting for spots, etc. We use two boats - 2 per boat - with one dog per boat.

This is the reason we all hunt together regularly - it's almost an unofficial hunting club. We take a "team" approach to it.

Were you near yesterday's mess?

Monday, November 22, 2004 at 4:49:52 AM

@ All
Well so far no luck ! I will be going back out again on Tues.,Wed. Morning and from Fri. Moring until Sun. Night I will be gone again.

@ Mystery Man
Lets start with your first question. My 20 ga. Is a Nova Pump. My 12 ga. Is a Super Black Eagle 2. Both of these I have won at a WhiteTails Unlimited Banquets. I go to 2 of these a year. When you are a Table Captain(someone who buys 8 tickets @$55 dollars a piece, and suffers the loss if his people do not pay him for there tickets) your name and all the other Table Captains names go into a drawing for a very nice rifle or shot gun. Generally these guns are all ways top of the line guns. This year I happen to win at both Dinner Banquets that I went to. I am looking into buying a SBE2 FlyWay, the Central FlyWay Model. It is 1 sweet a$$ gun. I will not be using this one to hunt with though. I will be using it as a center piece in my new gun cabinet.

OK now as far as your question on a Tradtion, I myself have not used 1 but I have a friend that had 1 that went through the exact same problems your dad did ! Needless to say he sold it right away after that.

As far as hunting shows I like to watch , I watch so many of them I cannot even keeps their names straight. My wife has threaten to leave me if I don't cut back on my shows, so now I tape them and watch them when she is at work ! Hehe
I really like the ones that have Ted Nugent as the host. That is one insane hunter. I have a video of him hunting in Alaska for Grizzles with a dam bow. He got his bear but man that is just nuts to hunt grizzles whith a dam bow.

@ Billy Bob
Yes I know what you mean about the 7mm. My dad has one and it does hurts like a Bi***. Good luck with you pheasent hunt in Dakota. I have a friend that I hook up with every 4 years and we go to Dakota for a week to hunt pheasents. You should have a Blast at least I do when I go there.

@ 44
What do you mean about yesterdays mess?

@ Blind Cide
LMAO ! Some how I knew some one was going to go there ! B)

@ 44 & ROGUE
Man that is nuts. Its people like that, that cause the rest of us law biding citizens to lose are rights to bare arms. That was about 40 miles from where I was. I had a case like that this weekend but it was settled in a civil matter! The guy had gone to far and didn't realize he had left the private property thats he was on and entered the private property that I was on ! That is why I all ways carrie a map and a GPS compass when hunting so I never get lost or go out of my area that I am hunting on. There was a nother case in Wis. This weekend where a 42 year old man was shot and killed but I have yet to hear the rest of the details on that case! B)

1. I only hunt deer.
2. On my family's land in southern WV.
3. I hunt just so I can spend some time with my dad. I like it and all, but I wouldn't go if it wasn't for him. One day we headed out, drove to the top of a hill to scout a meadow, and we ended up talking till noon. That was great! When we do manage to get out of the truck, we usually walk into the woods together, but choose separate places to sit. Sometimes we'll get together, but that's usually when we're done for lunch or the evening.
4. Whatever dad gives me. XD Usually a 30.06.
5. I don't scout or prep in any way, but dad does. Since he's out on the farm so much (along with my uncle and grandfather), we all discuss what they've seen and where they've seen it. That's part of the fun.
6. Looks like I'll just be going out this Saturday, 27 Nov. We have so many people to visit while we're in town for Thanksgiving that I'll only get one morning, maybe a day in the woods.

1. Working towards getting my hunters safety in, but right now I hunt coyotes and prarie dogs, I follow my dad on dove trips, am training for them.
2. We hunt on this guy's land out by DIA, its farmland. Good brush area great for doves!
3. I hunt with my dad and this guy Marvin sometimes, we took some other ppl out once.
4. I use an old Glennwood.22, semi-auto 18 round. My dad payed $35 for it when he was 13 lol. I use that for the prarie dogs. For the coyotes I use a.30-30 Remington (short range deer rifle someday). For the birds, I use a Franchi 620 12 gauge. For target practice I use a Ruger Mark II.22 semiauto pistol. Bull barrel. For a carry, I use a Glock.40
5. No not really, for the coyotes, we use a noisemaker, supposed to sound like an injured rabbit.
6. We hunt anytime for the smaller game, the doves the 1st of september. Next year I hope to go for deer.

@ Oddball and the rest

That guy that did that is the reason the anti-gun ppl go crazy! This is why they try to ban assault rifles too...which is sad.
I hope that I get to keep my AR-15 around for a while.

Well for most people deer season ended yesterday ! In my area due to CWD, there are zones where it is open until 1/03/05 ! So far nothing. :S Well I helped take down 1 doe and put the final shot into a buck (10 pointer) yesterday but neither of these where my deer. I due have a 12 point buck I am waiting for once I get my doe. Out of 9 days I have seen this big buck 12 times. I have seen him in the morning coming from his bed and late at night just as the season is closing for the day he comes out to eat. So I just need to get my dang doe to get my big 1 !
OH GOD PLEASE GIVE ME A DOE TO SHOOT B)

Sunday, November 28, 2004 at 11:54:59 PM

I just brought back some venison from Pittsburgh. My brother, who is an avid hunter, got a 10 point weighing 175lbs., field dressed, during archery season. He also got a turkey but I didn't bring any home. I'm not a fan of wild turkey unless it comes from a bottle. Heh.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

Monday, November 29, 2004 at 6:45:16 AM

@ lone

Good luck man!!! 12 pointer would be a good head on the wall and enough meat for a family of 4 for quite a long time lol. If you bag it, send us a pic!!! (and maybe some meat from it too ;) )

@Rogue

Sounds tasty! Havent had wild turkey...friend of my dads has property in the mountains they have about 150 wild turkeys that live around their property. One year he killed one...but his wife said it tasted aweful...now they are like pets lol. They prolly spend $500 a year to feed those darn things...
but her hubby swears it was the best turkey ever lol

Well, looks like I missed. :[

Dad and I were out last Saturday. We were sharing a 7mm rifle as we "truck hunted". This is the first year we went that route, usually we hike up into the woods for the day. Instead, we sat in the truck and scanned his meadows. It wasn't so bad and there were plenty of does to be seen. It worked out nicely that afternoon since we took my 6yo along.

That evening, we finally had some targets. A spike and something else. In the fading light, we couldn't tell for sure. I said 4, but dad kept saying 6 or 8. The impressive part was the base of the antlers that the tines rose from. They were white and looked to be about 2 inches thick. My son's all, "Shoot it dad, get him", which was a surprise. Anyway, we decided to check another meadow first, found 18 dobies, so we headed back to the others. We drove up into the field and got into position. I took my first shot and we thought I got him, but I needed to take another shot. The second shot might as well been at the moon. I thought I was shooting at a deer, but it ended up being a tree. When dad scouted out the area, he found that the first shot had missed as well and hit...a tree about 5" off the ground. 20" higher and I would be gloating. XD Still, dad was very happy I got some shots off and we all had a good time together.

Here's one of the little dobies we saw while crusing the back roads.

There were two of them, acting like pets. As we left we shouted at them so they'd get away from the road. Dad figured someone would come along and blast them otherwise.

Friday, December 03, 2004 at 3:11:37 AM

UPDATE: I spoke with my paw on the phone last night and he told me I actually hit my deer after all. He and a friend where hunting last Saturday and decided to check out the tree I had hit earlier. In the daylight they could see white hairs all around the tree. It had rained earlier, so there wasn't any way to be sure if there had been any blood or not. We figured I either grazed it's belly or neck. He's hoping for a light snow since it might reveal a trail for him to follow. I figure I nicked the buck in the belly, but he's OK and still out there doing his thing. At least I got a piece of him so I get to keep my shirt tail, but I'd hate for dad to find him now. What a waste.
