I did see him!,
Weeeeeee,watch him spin around.....
Pretty cool DanMac!
I did see and move him.
(Mac) Safari Browser
Looks good.
A paintball game would be cool.
It would be even better if it could be played on line.
I see dude.
Ya saw him, that guy started to dance wild disco dance!
You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.
Could not get him to move while using Firefox on OSX 10.2
Interesting little guy. Did you create him, or did he evolve from a different game?
I see him on an Apple Titanium 15" Powerbook with Mac OS 10.3.6. Safari browser.
The HD cranked for an unusually long time (maybe 30 seconds) before he appeared. Then it was another 15-20 seconds before the arrow keys could move him.
Works on Firefox once the Java plugin is downloaded.
SAW HIM ON BOTH DELL AND MAC....LOOKS COOL,CAINT WAIT TO PLAY.
Saw him oh here… safari. Quick load time as well.
Mission accomplished.
Am guessing he's modeled after Lonewolf?
Oh wow, that is so awesome that it's working on mac. Thanks guys!
I created the guy just for this little test. I'm not much of an art guy but I like to play around. I had a firend help me with the texture.
The loading is a little rough, if it was used in a game it would be a little more optimized. You'd see a splash screen and a loading bar for about 10-15 seconds and then you would see the 3D content.
The idea is to have it be a multiplayer game, you join in a lobby with other people and then you all jump into a match and duke it out as two teams in a field. It would be in a warcraft type perspective, but a little more zoomed in. You could upgrade your equipment with winnings from the matches you fight and that kind of thing.
Thanks again for checking it out.

I use firefox as well, unfortunatly it does not come with a java runtime by default. Fortunatly most firefox users are savy enough to know to go and get the JRE ;)
I see him on an Apple Titanium 15" Powerbook with Mac OS 10.3.5. Safari browser.
Everything worked fine.
Well on my IE6 browser I can see him but can not move him.
@ BF
You have to use the keypad arrow keys.
@Dan
What do you use to make 3d Stuff like that???? 8o
I used silo3d for the modling, ultimate unwrap 3d for the texture mapping, and milkshape for the animating.
You could get something like Wings3D that does a good job of all 3 and is free. I just use what I learned first. If I had learned wings3d first I might have used that instead.
There is another indie developer Moonpod, they make a game called Starscape. Anyway, their artist uses Wings3D and creates some really nice stuff. There are some screenshots in this design diary...

Dan, nice concept, 3d/overhead. Roll with it.
Works on ie6 latest
FYI most companies dont allow java to be enabled on their machines for security and gaming purposes...
Looks cool though
Flash is more universal and is much easier on resources than anything that is java (ie applets)
B
Bolo, really? I find companies are more likely to dissalow activeX controls like flash then java. Java is very limited to what it can do on your computer. ActiveX controls like flash can do whatever they want.
True dan but only to the extent you specify in your browser.
Applets cannot go outside the "sandbox" but are quite inefficient since all java is compiled into byte code so that all the platforms can run them....sort of like being interpreted....sluggish
Most applets have been replaced with activex
B
Goos idea
Ie 6.0 works great. Move ahead with your production.
Activex =/= mac
Awesome!!! Can't wait for a game to come out with that Dan! I couldn't use the arrow keys though with Dell and Java.

The controls work after 15 seconds.
Where on the website can you downlad wings at?
Hey pdiddyseal, if you read one of my posts further up in the thread. I post a link to the wings site.
Sorry Dan all I see is a coffee cup with a exclamation mark on it.
System 10.3.7 and a safari browser
Still NAda
Thank You Jacob, I know about the link where do you download it at on that site?
In the top left corner of the site it says "latest stable releases" and there a list of links mac, win, linux etc. Click the one that maps to whatever operating system you are running on. That will bring up a list of download sites. This is a very "Open Source" way of making stuff available. They generally have a "stable" release and the most recent version that the developers are actively working on and contributing changes to. Typically you want a "Stable" release as that's been tested and is known to run on all platforms. The nightly development builds are a bit more unstable but occasionally have the latest and greatest features.
Hey Dan,
If you want it to be realistic (if not you can stop reading now) pick up Greg Hastings' Tournamet Paintball . Very realistic as far as physics go, and the models and sounds are nicely done too. Also, are you going to try for a speedball or a more woodsball type of gameplay?
Essentially, I want to create an exaggerated paintball. I figure if paintball players want realistic they'll just go grab their markers and head out to the field. So I'm going to make it a little more interesting. Paint mortars, Paint Grenades, REALLY BIG markers and cool equipment upgrades that don't necessarily exist in real life. It will still be 100% paintball, but wouldn't a paintball minigun be fun?
Paintball mini-gun would be fun. Have it on a sationary tripod with...oh say 2 markers attatched to a belt fed hopper of sorts. :)
EDIT: Here is a link for that I think you will find handy - http://www.oklahomadday.com/files/index1A.html
It is a military sim of sorts, and has some exadgerated guns, grenades, tanks ect.
EDIT2
: I have plans for a paintball mini-gun using 2 tippmann 98 customs with R/T's, halo b's, and powered off of one of those C02 tanks used to fill the smaller ones (cant remember the exact size)....but I dont have the funds. ;)

@ Michael
You paintball? Same here. I have a Tippmann 98 custum with a dye boomstick, a double trigger, egg hopper, low pressure kit, compressed air tank, and many more homeade upgrades that I made at my house. I also have a autococker (that gun down there)
What gun do you have?
@ DanMac
This sounds like a great idea! If you were to have levels, you should make the levels like military scenerios if you are going to make the game exaggerated. I really like the guy! Keep up the good work.

Yup, I paintball. 98c (with a few home mods, polished the internals and stuff like that), 2x trigger, r/t, armson stealth 13", full boar shadow (the one with the beavertail), egg 2, redz dimesion 3+3 (still with the 20oz c02 though, not many places to fill hpa bottles around here : / ). Thinking about getting one of the '05 speeds, those are HOT! BTW, is that an '04 cocker? Oh, and do you hang out on any forums? Im usually at www.pbreview.com under p8ntballa#1, I dont post much anymore though.

Page : <1> :
I'm playing around with the idea of making a 3D paintball game that runs in a browser window. I did a little 3d modeling and made a guy doing a simple kneeling animation.
http://supra.planetthinktanks2.com/archives/dan/guy/
You can see him (hopefully) if you visit the link. If you click on him with your mouse, and then use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard you can rotate him to see him from different angles.
I'm curious to know if you can run this without downloading anything. It's based on java 1.1 which is built into most browsers, but some people still wont have it. I'm curious how many...
Thanks.
