Not all of Canada supports this legalization. The country is actually split pretty much 50-50 on it.. While 90% support using a different name than marraige..It opens a large bag of worms (no pun intented) that may have many ramifications down the road.
Where are you coming to in our lovely country... Let us know so we can better direct some great sites.. Would also help to know what you like to do.. Outdoors person, like cultural things... Sports.. Etc
Flying somewhere from Syracuse, NY...probably eastern Canada will be best. Pretty wide-open on likes...looking for a nice resort or hotel in a beautiful part of the country with a good mixed-bag of activities. I've heard good things about prince edward island.
You know 44, the reason WHY the Canadian government didn't hold a public vote is because they knew that the Liberals would lose and the same-sex marriage bill wouldn't pass. My hate-o-meter is balanced now:
VOTE CONSERVATIVE! PAUL MARTIN MUST GO THIS YEAR!
^LOL. Spoken like a true Albertan! Why don't you step out of the prairies once and a while and see what the civilized part of Canada really thinks. And while you're at it, why don't you ask us what we think of Ralph Klein or Stephen Harper. Ridiculous.
@44
The Maritimes are very beautiful around that time of year. I just hope you like lobster!
Well I'm not gay nor am I comfortable around them but that does not mean that I or people like myself have the right to impose our life decisions on gays. I agree that Canada has done the right thing here. The only reason it hasn't happened here in the U.S. Is because of the Christian's who want to impose their religion on others. You know the Nazi's hated gays too.
"OMG I THINK GAY MARRIAGE IS WRONG BECAUSE I'M A CHRISTIAN!"
Hey dipshit, this isn't about you. What about the millions of people who decide to take part in a homosexual environment because it doesn't contradict any of their beliefs or values.
"BECAUSE JEEBUS CRISIS SAID SO!"
...
Hey, looks like we can't blame Canada this time.

^ Please don't argue against your imagination in these threads. And if you must argue against your imagination, please keep it civilized.
While 90% support using a different name than marriage.
If this is a battle about legal rights, health benefits, etc.. Why is this concept of just having a different name for it not accepted (or pushed for) by the gay rights movement? (At least you hear very little of it from the vocal leaders in the states.) It seems that it would be a much easier battle to win, and the joys of legal benefits (and complications) would all be available.

I fail to see how this is relavent.. We are talking here about marriage.. Which IS a religious ceremony.. It has its roots in religion.. It is all about religion.. Why do you think marriages are done in a church.. It is only in recent times that the governments got involved in marriage to make some $$$ from it.. So you see the foundation for your argument is without basis..

Marriages are a civil function. If done under the auspices of the church, they are religious, but can be and are often performed by an officer of the publc court. Marriages have been and will always be in both realms.
Memphis,
You are of course correct that NOW they are a civil function.... As I noted in my comment. However the whole basis on which marriage is founded is a RELIGIOUS ceromony in front of GOD.... Just because governments have stepped in to make $$$ from it does not change the fact of what it really is..
Marriage is an institution designed to keep someone from getting completely screwed. Marriage contract ancient It isn't founded on God at all, rather ancient mesopotamian civilizations thought it might be a good idea to enter into some form of agreement or committment to one another.
For those in religious circles, God is often seen as entering into the marriage as well. But marriage as an institution began before the bible was written.
Let's make it clear, I am in agreement with you about marriage being a religious ceremony. I would just like to point out, that it isn't SOLELY a RELIGIOUS institution.
YAY! Me and NUTS can finally wed. YAY!
Thanks lady!
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.
Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

Equal rights? Nice work guys.
BTW, wifey and I are considering a 4-night trip up north for our 10-yr anniversary in late August. Looking for something very nice. Any recommendations from you tolerant, pacifists would be appreciated.
