Page : <1> :

Just posted this on the GarageGames forums, but this seems like the place to be...

I´m quite impressed with ThinkTanks Demo and I´m considering registering, But there is a constant buzzing in the left channel, also in the select screens when choosing options, launch etc I get a burst of noise whenever I select anything.

Is this a known issue? I´m running DEMO v1.1 on an Apple Dual 2 Ghz G5 / OS 10.3.5

TIA

There might be something you can do to make OpenAL play nice with your system

You could always try checking the Audio-out plug, but I'm betting it has something to do with OpenAL.

Thanks for the suggestion, but how do I check the audio out plug? And are there settings I can access in OpenAL ?

Audio out plug is on the back of your computer, with a speaker and sound lines coming out of it.

OpenAL is a completely different thing, it's a software that plays back audio in video games. Download here.

My computer sound is fine, I use sound applications all the time, including Logic Pro, I thought you were referring to a software plug in.

Using your link I just installed OpenAL, it must have been a more up to date version because the distortion has now gone and the music sounds clear. Unfortunately, I can't hear any sound effects now.

But this is progress (I think)

*sigh* Will this ever end? :P

Your computer is probably doing too much...what's the specs of your computer? Maybe you have a sound card that doesn't properly support OpenAL?

Sometimes a lot of it is lag. I dont hear the powerup sound effects most of the time

Spunky, my computer is an Apple Dual 2 Ghz G5 /2Gb Ram running Panther 10.3.5. My Sound card is a M-Audio Delta 66. I have more than enough horsepower to run this game.

Bolo, I'm hearing no sound fx at all even when I'm playing solo.

Following the advice of clark on the GarageGames forums, I downloaded an alternative set of sound files from Bravetree which used wavs instead of ogg for the fx. No, luck. Apparently there are some issues with dual processor Macs. :S

Thanks for all the help folks. I'm now really into this excellent game - if I get the full game is there likely to be any difference?

Ah, I see your problem...the G5 has a different motherboard chip, which functions differently from G4 chips...companies such as Adobe and Blizzard (or whoever makes UT04) are releasing patches for their games to run on this new chip, but so far, BraveTree hasn't...I think that's the problem.
