<Begin unrelated rant>

No, its not a TT player, but something I get in the mail all the time (not to mention all those erectile ads).

I want to come out and say this is something I struggle with and I don't need these yahoos sending this crap to me and trying to trick me into looking at it by modding their subjects and sender names so my filters won't catch it! Its like sending free drugs to addicts and free beer to alcoholics! ARGH! If I want it, there are plenty of outlets to get it, but if I'm trying to avoid it, I shouldn't have to deal with the barrage of garbage.

The good news is there is legislation floating around out there that's targeting spammers in general and porn spam specifically. Hopefully it will pass.

Whew! Just needed to let off a little steam.

I have to laugh.

Although I am tired of getting the porn spam too, it makes me giggle to be offered a fix for my erectile dysfuntion problem.

I am not sure as to how I got on THAT mailing list.

:-)

I hear ya Rabby. I hate spammers. All of them! They should be made to hang from their fingers above a pit of ravenous crocodiles. Let's see how long they can hang on. Heh. There have actually been some, shall I say, heartwarming stories about spammers that were "outed" in articles, only to be hit with a barrage of spam mail themselves, as irate, frustrated email users signed them up for all manner of mailing lists. Needless to say, the spammers were very un-amused by it all. Too bad! Due justice I say. If you can't take it, don't dish it out!

Honestly though, I don't blame spam engineers or even the companies that employ them half as much as the idiots out there that are keeping them in business. Think about it. Spamming obviously pays off big time, or else it wouldn't be growing at an exponential rate. SOMEONE out there is buying this crap from these bozos. It boggles the mind, and just goes to show that there's no accounting for intelligence. I wish people would STOP clicking on their links and/or buying their crap, so it wouldn't be profitable for them.

I thought about how could you get on a spamming list... Could it be possible that someone gives your email address to such a list?

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

Well, you know, there might be someone out there who wants a rolex watch or Viagra! :P

@Triv
There are many reasons of getting in the list, and one of them is putting ur e-mail in a site (a public one), some sites have some "spidys" that search every sites and send the e-mails it finds into an (many I mean) e-mail list(s) and well thats one of the reasons..
Dont worry PTT has some kind of protection, dont know it tough lol.

Another reason is someone serch for mails arround the web and manually put em in a mail list (maybe someone is making it right in this instance with the e-mails in PTT!)

There are ma<ny more ()one of them includes u putting it on a list yourself that then gives ur e-mail to other lists and another one is when u register with ur e-mail somewhere and ur e-mail is given out)

Lol there are MANY more..

My ISP and also another company hosting a few.com for me have now installed a very powerful filter. I used to receive 100-150 spams a day (email session was 'delete delete delete'), now mb I received 2-3 a day. I was desperate, but now I'm thankful. What a loss of productivity for me it was!

Rabban, check out your ISP service. More and more they offer an opt-in for spam filter. Call them or change ISP. There's hope...

Porn Spam?! Is that some new kind of potted meat? Free naked ladies with every can of SPAM? One can only hope the hilarity of KBC saves us...

Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 9:07:46 PM

Rabby, I have silly ol yahoo, and the spam filter catches just about all of that garbage. In fact, its been months since I've had to deal with any of that crap. When I empty my bulk folder, its chock full of titties, and bottoms, and erections.

I just simply track the IP source it came from and retract the message with a juicy Trojan XD

That'll teach those porn spammers.

Makes me wonder how they got my name?

Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 9:39:07 PM

Me too. I hate that!! And sometimes it isn't even just erection ads...Sometimes the emails contain REAL porn, but sometimes it's just words, talking about how "This gal is waiting to cheat on her husband! Wanna bargain??" I mean THAT'S SO SICK!!!! Sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick sick!!!

Friday, February 18, 2005 at 6:05:25 AM

Well, the spam I was refering to was at work. I've noticed some of the addresses and some are just potshots trying to get lucky (no pun intended), pretty much varietyofnames@work.com . Sometimes the sender even appears to be part of our network and available for IM through Lotus Notes. There's only 10 of us here, so I know everyone and its not them.

I've tried setting up some filters in Notes, but you know how they like to spell words with dashes, periods and special characters to get past filters. That's another HUGE frustration. Even when I try to put up countermeasures, they counter the counters. I liken it to someone remotely changing the channel on my TV to go to their commercial wherever is playing, regardless of whether I want to see it or not.

GRRRRRR!

Yea LOL. We were fixing this one person's Dell pc last night, they had one of those "respawning" viruses, but it was so funny because all the files were cal csbthr32.exe or mdjghhajg32.exe ect. They also had a registry entry that said "AMD 64 Processor," but Dell's only come with P4's!
