CHILLED LIZARD©'S ULTIMATE PICTORIAL TERRAIN EDITING GUIDE!
This should give you some pretty good info on how to make yourself some cool terrains with the Torque Game Engine for your ThinkTanks mod! Instead of just text instructions, why not use screenshots showing the step-by-step process! Instead of TELLING you, I'm gonna SHOW you! Enjoy!
Download the Torque Game Engine demo from GarageGames.com and install it.
This is the second screen you will see (after the 3 second GarageGames logo intro). Click on the button that says "FPS Multiplayer".
You will now see the screen above. Make sure you have checked the "Create Server" button. Click the 'next' arrow.
After a few seconds, you will see a screen similar to the screenshot above. Use the W,S,A,D keys (By default), and walk around a little!
Press the 'F11' key. Make sure the F lock is off! You will now see a screen similar to above. You will see numerous red dots with text under them, as well, your mouse cursor will now appear.
You will see a menu bar at the top of the screen. There will be a menu titled "Window". From that menu, select "Terrain Editor".
Move your mouse around on the terrain now. You should see multi-colored squares following it. The red squares indicate the part of the terrain that will be impacted the most, and the green squares show the part of the terrain that will be impacted the least. So HOW do you impact the terrain? Read on!
On the menu bar, choose the "Action" menu and select "Add Dirt".
Click and hold down your mouse. Wow! A hill just appeared! Congratulations! You have just edited your first terrain! XD
For terrain editing, I highly recommend switching to camera mode. Press F11 to get off of editing mode, and press Command-C (Mac), or Alt-C (Windows). Use the W,S,A,D keys and the mouse (by default) to move around.
Now from the window menu, select "Terrain Texture Painter". On the left side of your screen, select a texure. Once you have clicked on one, click and drag your mouse on the terrain. Pretty sweet, huh?
Once you have clicked on one, click and drag your mouse on the terrain. Pretty sweet, huh?
A very interesting, fast & easy way to create awesome terrains is with the "Terrain Terraform Editor". Select it from the Window menu. Then from the 'Operation' menu, select "Canyon Fractal" for now.
Once you have it selected, press the "Apply" button.
I'd say that's pretty neat, don't you agree? B)
