Page : <1> :

Welcome to my series of mod tips to help the modder in you. These will be ideal for beginners.

So, you want to create your own mod? First things first, learn how. To do that, go here. . That is probably the best modding tutorial on the web.

Alrighty! You now know how, and what you can do. But now, what now? I will guide you through the steps to start on your way to a great mod. Please read the tutorial above so you know what I am talking about.

Chapter One: Chosing a Map

First things first. You need a construction site. For detailed descriptions of the maps, go here.

Chapter Two: Designing the Map

You have set up a nice site, and have cleared the area. An open landscape is ready for you to begin. First, set up your square size, as noted in the tutorial at the top. This will allow you to somewhat control the terrain shape.

You have set the terrain now. It is time to begin! Fire up ModWizard, and lets begin. First, place your spawn points. This will allow you to design the map around where others begin. Place objects in this order to make your task easy: Spawn Points, Foliage, Ammo Gates and Powerups. This will allow for full accessability. Do some play testing, do a public beta, and get some feedback. You are almost done!

Chapter Three: Setting the Atmosphere

You are probably wondering what "atmosphere" is. This is all the fog color, sky color, sky texture, fog level, visable distance, ect. The reason this is done AFTER the objects is because you will be able to see while placing :). Now that you know how to set atmospheric conditions by reading -z-'s modding tutorial, you can go through my steps. For the easiest way, do these following steps respectively: Fog Color, Fog level, Floor Setting, Visable and Fog Distance, Sky Color/Texture, Terrain Detail, Wind Velocity.

So now, you have the perfect mod. Tweak some more, get feedback from the public, and then you are ready to show it off in Prime Time! Good luck!

Congratulations! You have completed your first mod! Expieriment, and you can become a great modder! More Nathan's Mod Tips coming to a Planet Thinktanks Forum near you soon! Enjoy!
