When a company goes down the tubes it's usually the management that gets the heat.

PTT as well as the TT game in general is suffering. What are the administrators and the moderators doing to make things better?

Please let us know.

What do you mean by suffering? Please give examples, you must be specific. Thanks for your response

Trolls, spam, and excessive flaming come to mind...

Sunday, July 17, 2005 at 7:12:27 PM

I dont know if this helps answer your question or not, but I dont think they have to take any responsability for attitudes from people being silly...Its an on-line game people act as they please. The most moderators can do is ban them from thier servers

This isn't a company. It's a community of people that like ThinkTanks. Non of the Admins or moderators are paid to be here. In fact Dan Mac usually pays the monthly fees out of his own pocket just to keep this site up and running.

It's what each individual makes of it. Most of us have fun in here and try to make it a positive experience. People have a right (at least in this community) to come online and not be attacked and harassed. I seem to see a lot of that from you lately.

Think about your posts and ask yourself "What is Date Man doing to make things better?"

Please let us know.

It's a community with volunteer leaders - this is not a tough concept and they are responsible (up to a point) for these places.

I just played some wonderful team scrum with dominator - I'm a positive, goodwill ambassador (believe it or not). I'm also glad to be a responsible, mature voice when there are problems.

It's Dan Mac's choice - don't make him a martyr.

KBC, stop harassing me.

Who? The n00bs. Well, at least most of them. Especially the real trolls.

BLAME THE KILLA COPS.

DateMan,

A community is built by contributions from all its members - positive and negative. The moderators are not really leaders. We are simply shepherds to help keep the place clean and tidy.

The wonderful thing about this online community is that anyone can step up and make a contribution. Many host servers, create mods, post interesting or humorous threads, create or participate in leagues, etc. These types of things build a place where we can all come and play some great video game action, make friends, and learn from one another.

Of course, it is just as easy to break it all down with negative energy. In fact, a community such as ours is very susceptible to disruption by a small number of people - both in the game and on PTT.

This is true of society at large as well - just read the headlines! We do not intend to control anybody or dictate the directions things should go. We simply want to guide things toward the positive. We cannot possibly keep up with all the spam, but we try. It is important for everyone to remember that it is best to only contribute positive energy. Resist the tempation to react to negativity with more negativity. Try and be net positive in all your online behavior and this will be a better place.

Here is the shocking bottom line: You all are the leaders! Step up and make a positive contribution any way you know how.

Well said RX!

You're upset about a site that's free to you?!

KBC, stop harassing me.

You posted a question. I answered.

Again, what are you doing to make the community better?

JJ

I control 88% PTT.

So it's my fault.

I outed Valerie Plame too.

Sry Val.

Go back to sleep, Nuts!

I blame man's fallen nature.

I also blame Azazel, since, after all, he is the scapegoat.

@KBC - I agree totally with your first post. Dateman is almost entirely responsible for Woohoo leaving both PTT and TT.
Therefore I must lable him as a massive hypocite, who does more damage than good.

What a fart of a day.

Dang I just got up.....

I am still a little puzzled. I personally thought that TT and PTT were/are getting better. I remember when the TT servers were filled with team killing fecal matter. Now they are not on the private servers anymore and are rarely seen on the shockwave servers. I think the mods are doing a great job. I remember when the spammers and negative posters were out in force. I think there is more a sense of "community" now than ever before.

Could you give examples of things going down the tubes? Do you have any ideas how to make things better?

NUTS! -- just got up and getting ready to take on the day.

Monday, July 18, 2005 at 11:43:57 AM

Better? STop flaming the n00bs, and they'll stop learning from your example. I can help there. Sorry, all.
As for Date Man, a thread on blame gets nowhere except the bottom page of locked threads.

Who flames the Noobs, please eleborate?

Who's to blame?
When a company goes down the tubes it's usually the management that gets the heat.

Is it just me or is dateman actually not making any sense?

:
Edit*

Dominator is great.
Max, you're more distracting (are you an old lady?).
Ping me.

Now I understand what you are talking about. I gave specific reasons for my complaint about Dominator. If you disagree then that is a good thing and means he is not like that all the time.
Me, distracting? You have been playing with my impersonator haven't you? MAX©® or Combat Rock has not played indie scrum in weeks. Nor will he ever again.
end Edit*
:

TT Game:
The other day when I was torturing myself by playing a game of afternoon indie scrum on a shock-wave server, I had an epiphany.

The scenario was typical; BMing Demo's, campers, a few newbs, a couple impersonators, and some bad mouth what-evers. A pretty much unplayable game. Frustrated, as usual, I started policing. But then...

Here comes the epiphany....

It suddenly occurred to me, if a demo was deciding to buy this game at that moment, they would would be thinking "screw this game, what the hell is this ?"
So...
I said to everybody in the game, "has it occurred to you all that by disrupting the game and making it un-fun to play that we are loosing potential buyers of the game. Which means that TT2 or any growth in the game declines every time a demo decides not to buy"

One of the nasty troublemakers gasped at the realization and left and another just left.

The point of the story is to show that, some of these kids just don't realize the repercussions and lack foresight.

There are several players in the TT community who are just evil and there is nothing we can do about it. But there are some who are on the cusp of realizing that the best thing to do is make the game fun for all.

The TT game will suffer as long as there are jerks who play and as long as there are 56k modems being used.

:

PTT Forum:
The PTT forum (should be) is funded by, run by and the responsibility of the users of The PTT forum.
The era between ~z~ getting captured by Aliens and DanMac creating the House of Moderators, was total chaos.
A group of PTT members were selected by and voted for by the PTT community to be moderators.
The job of the Moderators is to try to keep a balance between free discussion and censorship.
I feel that since the new regime of moderators, PTT has been cleaned up. Not like Times Square, but like Bryant Park.
For the most part, all seems fine now.

So It is not clear to me what you general un-specific problem is with the PTT forums and community.

MAX
P.S. Beware the Rube: MAX©® & Combat Rock. If it's not a Rolling Rock, it's not real. Cheers

@ MAX-CR

Good points all.

@Fire Fox Pup(D5/AU)

Please explain your last post in more detail.

Monday, July 18, 2005 at 8:37:42 PM

Wow - an unintentional good thread.

Great points made. Bottom line - act no differently on here (definded as PTT & TT) than you would at mom's for dinner. You can't go wrong.

Monday, July 18, 2005 at 9:31:54 PM

[how to make PTT] Better? STop flaming [n00bs on recieving end] the n00bs, and they'll stop learning from your example. I can help there [by not flaming the n00bs, which is hard because they're so annying]. Sorry, all.
As for Date Man, a thread on [for the sole purpose of] blaming gets [the thread] nowhere except the bottom page of locked threads.

Better, anyone?

Please explain your last post in more detail.

Sounds kinda redundant... Explain? More detail?

@FFP

Thanks. Your initail post was a little confusing, was not sure sure who/what you were refering to.

Monday, July 18, 2005 at 9:56:50 PM

Not a prob. I'll start now.

Monday, July 18, 2005 at 10:59:52 PM

Well I have done all I possible can to help out both here on PTT & TT to make this a great place to be !

Things I do for both PTT & TT
1. Every 3 months I put in about 2 weeks straight (about 25 - 30 hrs.) of hard core cleaning, deleting, moving and locking threads.
2. I help any one that comes to me for any help and if I can not help them, I send them to some one I know who can help them. All I ask of them in return for my help is to help any one that comes to them in the future for help. This continues the cycle of making PTT & TT a much better place !
4. Promote PTT & TT on line and in other games I play on line.
5. I try to stay as involved in all areas of PTT as my life will allow me too !

If these things are not enough then I am sorry but I am only 1 person and can only do so much at one time ! B)

I want to thank "Nice Folks" like Roo, Nap, CUC, Lone, Dash, and a host of others who have taken the time to Teach and Support me and other fledglings in TT Land! Speaking for myself, I couldn't have done it w/out ya's.

Nuff said. B)
